I feel bad for Jamie and kinda angry that everyone mistreats, pushes, and uses Jamie but are all surprised and upset when he does something for himself for once and becomes the threat they built and created him to be with their actions. The character of Jamie, is just like his biological father. Which he proves, again and again. Being adopted by the Duttons afforded him a great many niceties. And he doesn't appreciate, or respect, the family and the family business that despite not being a Dutton by birth, is intended to be left in his hands when John dies. Which is something that rarely happens in wealthy, established, family businesses.
Especially businesses like ranching, and farming. When people's livelihoods depend upon their land, and its natural resources, they tend to develop a very deep attachment to that land. And with every generation, that attachment grows deeper. Jamie would never have lasted, working on the ranch. He was weak, and selfish, despite trying to make out as though he was doing everything he could for the family.
The character was deeply flawed. Even more so than the other family member characters. He felt no real attachment to the land. And much of the angst, was brought on by his own decisions, and actions. All of the characters were, in my opinion, well written, and acted. It was an amazing series. And now that it's over, will spawn a couple of spinoffs which, if successful, will likely have some crossover. It'll be interesting to see how well they do.

@@trudyisaacs840 Respect has to go both ways. Before Beth's return (and long after), Jamie dutifully covers up all the ranch's illegal activities and keeps their behinds out of jail but he is nevet treated well despite this. He does do some terrible things himself but none more deplorable than any other of his family members' misdeeds.
Also, Jamie enjoyed working on the ranch and he did a well enough kob as a wrangler, but John needed him as a lawyer again and that was the end of that.
And Beth didn't give a damn about keeping the land either. Had it been for her, she would've sold it long ago. Only her blind devotion to her father kept her from doing it. As for Kayce, well we all saw what he did with the land after John died...

I love how this show portrays Jamie to be the bad guy. Yes he’s done some bad things but who hasn’t in this show, he most definitely should have told her about the operation cost beforehand but he was a scared kid who SHE came to. She has 0 accountability in that whole situation. Jamie was happy trying to become a cowboy and JOHN created him as the lawyer, John created this Jamie and now everyone’s acting all surprised when Jamie does the things their father made him to be. Again Jamie has done bad things but I truly hate how they twist this narrative protecting their sweet Beth 😂..

It’s an issue with the writing for sure. Love the show but this has always been a weird part of it. We are supposed to see Jamie as this evil corporate asshole but 90% of the characters are fucking murders and blackmailers. Then we find out that the only reason Jamie adopted this lifestyle that John hated is because John made him do it. The only truly bad thing you have him on is the Beth stuff but even then you could argue he was young and scared and thought he was doing the right thing.

Jamie's suicide attempt scene always brings me to tears because I've been there. John absolutely did not handle it well, he said some of the worst things you can say to a suicidal person, but that scene really had me empathizing with Jaime, especially when he said "I cannot be fixed." To anyone struggling right now reading this: you can be fixed, you can get better, and feeling suicidal isn't selfish. It's just pain, and we can heal from pain. I'm living proof of that. • @uchihaitachi72

@@demonictelevision9427 Jamie approved the selling of the land because it would have made the ranch more money than the ranch has made from the beginning in a single day. With half a billion dollars you dont lose the ranch, you keep going somewhere else. When he conspired against him with the reporter it was right after john just beat the crap out of him for campaigning with johns approval. That also happened when john threatened to put Jamie's head through a wall for hitting his sister who lets not forget was beating the crap out of him until he defended himself. I know you may say Jamie deserved it, I dont think he did. Beth made choices and unfortunately her hysterectomy was the result. Lets not forget she was evil long before that happened. Sometimes it does not matter who throws the first punch or the last punch. John only knew how to break horses and heard cattle. That mentality was applied to how he interacted with people as well. See a wolf, kill the wolf to protect the flock. A horse bucks, you break it. I do not know how he acted when his wife was in the picture, but it was clear that afterwords, he saw everyone around him as either asset or enemy. He did not allow Jamie to grow into his own man, he tried to break him to his will. Jamie could not defend himself from Beth without John and Rip bringing him to the train station, they always forgave her everything. For Jamie, the smart choice would have been to walk away like his brother. Unfortunately, he was never given the chance.

The real villain is John, not only did he isolate his adopted son from him but also severed any chance of him growing to love his adopted dad, and i know why, he resents jamie for his dad that killed his wife. so the issue is that john created the monster because he is stubborn and could not let go of the murder of his wife. based on jamies phycological behavior he is being pushed into a direction of hared because ive not seen any time his dad show love or effection of a hug or i love you son, they blame him almost always. he was 17 with the situation with his sister do any 17 year old's know about that stuff? no they probably dont. however upon watching this series, john is the culprit for jamies betrayal because jamie seeks his love even with the abuse or his approval. this ladies and gentleman is what happens when you treat your children this way. i honestly hope jamie wins because in the end one mans pride is a whole family's end. pisses me off!
However on other note when his biological dad showed him that love that john couldnt thats what won jamie over. in the end based on the story all jamie wants is to be loved and appreciated and acknowledged.

I don't think it's that clear but it's not really our fault for not knowing, because the series doesn't show his childhood....
i actually assumed they were a very happy family, growing up(from glimpses of stuff like family fishing or camping trips and their reminiscing)...
i also assumed that BEFORE THE WIFE DIED (this is the crucial thing, that started the problems for John Dutton), Jaime got all the love he needed (from John too)!....

I always felt bad for Jamie because he was a kid himself when he had to make that dreadful decision for Beth. SHE is the one that came to him asking for help. SHE didn't want to tell her parents. SHE didn't want him to go to town because they would recognize her. So her only other option was to go to the reservation for an abortion, but order for her to get one she she had to be sterilized. He didn't ask for it- it was protocol. . If she hadn't put herself in that situation, Jamie would never have been in the position to have to make such a drastic decision. Again, he was just a kid himself! People seem to forget that, especially Beth. What Jamie did was wrong- he should've just told their father at that point. But he didn't, and Beth blames him entirely for ruining her life when in reality, she was just as responsible but conveniently forgets that.

    • @melindoranightsilver9298
      @melindoranightsilver9298 7 місяців тому +13

Beth was partially at fault but keep a few things in mind:
1)When she became a teen until the point that her mom died, her mom mentally and emotionally abused her. Her mom even warned her that she was going to do it. Her mom also let her think that it was Beth's fault that she died when that wasn't true at all. It all messed her up which was why she started drinking and sleeping around.
      2) Rip was the dad. If John knew he had gotten Beth pregnant, off to the train station Rip would have went. Mind you, she didn't know about the train station but she did know the ranch was all Rip had. She at least had an idea of the things her dad could do to Rip.
3)Beth is someone who would die for John so she would rather not upset him if possible. But back then, he made it so she couldn't go to him about it. John admitted that part of the blame was on himself. The family name was also at risk and that was another reason why Jaime & Beth didn't go to him. They were practically the founders of the area. John understood the legacy of the family and made it a point to tell them to protect it at all costs.
4)What Beth is really upset about was the fact that she was sterilized without her knowledge. Had Jamie told her about that aspect, she may have changed her mind. The woman at the clinic begged Jamie to take Beth somewhere else and he said "No"-family name, scandel, their legacy, etc. She asked him if it was ok and he said "yes" without batting an eye. At that moment, he was thinking more about John than Beth. She took his word that everything was going to work out. If she had known and made the choice, she would have taken the blame onto herself. But Jamie made that decision for her. She wanted an abortion not sterilization, she never agreed to the second aspect of the procedure.

No native abortion clinic wouldn’t have talked it over before the procedure, esp to a white woman . Also a hysterectomy which she had is major surgery to an abortion. No way she would have been able to go about as she did.
Unfortunately her father doesn’t see any of them as children needing love or help , after the loss of his wife he closes off . Instead their relationships become fractured .
John is horrible to Jamie even before the mother’s death .
He treats all his son’s as transactions to further his agenda. With Jamie as the scapegoat. Hopefully Jamie tells his ex baby momma about the train station ,before they put him in it .
Only way Beth bonds with John is by becoming invested in the farm & business. Which is the only currency she knows to get by . Beth has no friends, close friendship’s, extended family ie aunts ,uncles ,cousins .
To Learn the layers of normal relationships , instead all her relationships become transactional.
John allows her independence , he also allows her disrespect for everyone , which becomes worse as an adult . She behaves like a psychopath with a personality disorder.
Even Rip pulls her up on her behaviour, especially when Carter cones along despite the trauma his childhood had . He knows it’s not normal.

Can you honestly look at Beth Dutton and tell me that she wouldn’t arrange for Jamie to have an “accident” if John thought Jamie wasn’t essential to the ranch. Besides regardless of John and Beth, Lee and Kayce did and do love him as a brother and the feeling was very much mutual. Jamie grew up believing his devotion and hard work would be rewarded despite all the pain he went through. He was proven wrong, he realized that unless he did something their would not be a ranch to inherit. I do not know whether his choice comes from a place of love betrayed or to protect what he loves, maybe some combination of the two, either way, he decided the only way forward was war. I cannot get enough of this show, this work of art. I understand how some will find that statement offensive, perhaps as offensive as much of the storyline and violence portrayed. My reality remains... Yellowstone, the trilogy, is the closest thing to depicting the realities of my childhood. Yes, the amount of violence is unsettling; however, for those raised under similar conditions in parts of the World such as Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, and others, it's relatable. "Like or accept" it or not, much of the Pioneer Family Histories are much more similar to the Duttons' than today's "Soy-Boys" and the liberal beta males sculpted by a Nation that turned "Masculinity" into a slur, and replacing it with the label of "Toxic Masculinity."

I think that's false. On _all_ counts! 😮
He isn't a feudal landlord. He isn't just _pretending_ to be a decent person. He wasn't crushing ppl who do not 'bow' down to him.
_Everything_ you said was wrong. Did you even watch all of it?
Assuming you did - Just a few 'in a nutshell' points:
      (1) Learn what a feudal landlord really is.
      (2) 'Decent Person' as a pretense only? He _was_ always a decent man! The only 'kinks' in his armour started when his wife died and even then, he was always as decent as he _could_ be to the best of his abilities. He's human, like all of us. To say anything else is holding him to unrealistic standards. He, always, tried to do the right thing. That's the whole thing that makes this show great! (Showing how it's impossible to be perfect. Showing how GOOD PPL do bad things and bad ppl do good things. What happens when GOOD ppl are faced with IMPOSSIBLE challenges).
OK, i'm rambling but that he was not 'decent' is ludicrous. He's as 'stand up' a guy, as could be!
      (3) Crushing ppl who don't bow down to him?.... Again, patently false. Crushing 'enemies' (i.e those who attack you 1st), is not attacking ppl for now 'bowing down' to you!....
He was ruthless in self-defense, which is often the right choice, or rather, the rather, the 'practical' choice. Even then, he tried, many times, *_not_* to crush, more than once, before he _would_ crush - especially when ppl deserved a 2nd (or even 3rd) chance.
You are making these quick judgements, without much explanation....
I think the whole point, was to explore what happens to humans who _are_ 'decent', 'good fathers', 'land owners/employers' etc when faced with impossible situations!

That was his cue to leave Montana for good and start his own law practice somewhere far, far away from the toxic environment he was raised in.
The only explanation is that the constant abuse and humiliation he suffers at the hands of this despicable hillbilly crime family has afflicted him with some kind of stockholm syndrome where he seeks acceptance and approval from his captors.

None of them is a good person but it's all justified with it 'being for the family'. Beth proposing to kill Jamie because his now 'an enemy of the family' destroys every logic behind that.... They left him no reason to stay in their corner. There needs to be some incentive to cooperate and all he got was more threats and abuse.

I just don’t understand these comments.
Jamie has great qualities.. intelligent and skillful. But his Dad is right. He has no heart. Everything he does is for himself.
He could’ve so dang good for their family. He could’ve saved them so many times and did it at times. With a man of his skill, the Dutton family could be so protected. But he always wants to sell or lease portions of his family’s land for money. I get that it might be the smart move temporarily, but it’s clear to everyone except him that once you give a piece, they’ll want it all. And he just wants his own success and is willing to jeopardize their given rights to do so.
I don’t respect Jamie as a man at all. I respect his capability, but no heart at all.
He should’ve worked on himself and became stronger and learned from his Dad. It would’ve paid off dividends.

Everything JOHN does is for himself. Sending Jamie to law school because HE needed a lawyer. Holding Evelyn's death over Beth's head to keep her beholden to HIM. Waging HIS war that killed Lee. And if HE had his way, and Kayce had Beth's parental instincts, there wouldn't even be a Tate.
Jamie was loyal to John for decades, but got beat and kicked out for not answering his phone. Jamie had enough heart to become the best lawyer he could for his "father", but it went unrecognized and unappreciated.

John's biggest mistake was taking that riffle away from Jamie. The attack might not have happened, the impeachment and everything else Jamie's weakness brought to their home.

If I were Jamie- I’d pack my bags and leave everything behind to disappear and start a new life elsewhere. All of this family drama is exhausting. After all- he isn’t their real kid.

Jaime was always rejected by the Duttons and that led him to do things wrong

I think Kaycee and Jamie have gotten the raw end of the stick for the sole fact that they wanted to what was best for themselves and they were at lifes best when they werent at the ranch. But then the cancerous tentacle's of the ranch pull them back in and enslave everyone just because an overzealous man doesnt want to lose his ranch and the skeletons come out of the closet.

At this point why bother? Yellowstone, 1883, 1923 WERE great. But you lost my attention. I assume we'll watch at some point. But really, who cares.
