that loud one that runs intermitentyl is what we refer to as a "federal" siren, I'm pretty sure because it's manufactured by the Federal Siren Company. Uses air pressure to spin a wheel of blades that creates the sound. I've never used one like they do in this vid, I prefer to give it one big run up when approaching an intersection. The increasing pitch is what catches peoples attention. But I'm in a very rural town, no freeways like these guys have got. Good job by all.
@NYPD265 We have loads of em, there's tons of hybrids on the roads in NY/Northeast but no Quiktrips. We were one of the few places in the US where gas hit and surpassed $4 a gallon.
It's called a powercall tone on some siren systems, and on others, it's the warble tone. Are there other names used by other manufacturers? I don't know, lol
Zack, I truly hope you weren't told that precious bit of information by another firefighter. Any pressurized vehicle parts are subject to "exploding" and "launching" from the vehicle. I have witnessed it on more than one occasion while working at a fire academy where we typically burn at least 6-7 cars for each recruit class. There are also documented incidents and articles available to support this fact as well. Please do not relay that type of false information to our brother firefighters. It may end up getting someone hurt or killed, It might even be one of your best friends in the station that pays the price. Operating in front of any burning vehicle is a bad idea. As mentioned earlier, use your saws, hydraulics, or if you only have hand tools, pry the corner of the hood up along the fender. Any old school Porta Power duck bills laying around the station tool rooms? They work perfectly!
Exactly! Zack needs to do his research because cars, especially from the 1970's through the 1990's had the shock absorbing bumpers. There are plenty of videos out there showing what happens. There are many articles published when firefighters thought a tire exploded and found the bumper laying 25 feet down the road. There is a great video out there (I say great in terms of learning not because the firefighter got hurt) of a bumper taking down a firefighter who was standing in its path. So Zack, as was said before, if you don't know, don't say anything. It is not a myth it is real and that is why firefighters are taught how to approach a vehicle.
I actually looked it up after seeing similar videos. In Arkansas it is a $400 fine for Failure to Yield to an Emergency Vehicle that has flashing warning lights in red and/or blue and is sounding a siren. This is on top of any other fines or prison time for damage and injuries caused by reckless driving by drivers that think they are more important than a Rescue Truck trying to get to a scene to save lives.
Brothers, I would hate to respond to an emergency in your area. The traffic where I am at does not even come close to what you guys have to deal with. Good response and God Bless.
I would've set a buffer zone for traffic control but luckily no one hit any of the emergency responders. Dangerous zone to put out a car fire even if that one lane was cordon off. Good job gents
same but u could be a firefighter explorer who does the same as a firefighter but isn't rly one u can go around your town or city to see if y'all have one and u have to be between the age of 14-18
You got THAT right! Arguing in UA-cam videos is not worth the trouble, and it's definitely one of the greatest wastes of time mankind has ever invented.
@mrasmussen360 : not all states have the same laws when on the open road or freeway. where I live, a siren used on the freeway or open highway is not legal.
@talfacprez It actually doesnt matter if an emergency vehicle hits a civilians car, its automatically the civilians fault, its called "not yielding to emergency vehicles"
Amazing, over in America they dont even close the roads. Cars passing metres away. In the UK it would have been closed for bloody hours, then opened to one lane while its cleaned up causing no end of problems.
I hate the sound of the sirens just because I'm used to hearin different ones but love the video but how come some of the fire fighters were just standing around doing nothing?
That speed you are referring to is the speed of sound, I don't think he was traveling at or near 340 m/s. Also how would have driven on the left side when entering the highway? You can clearly see that there are 2 merge lanes, a concrete median, and then the highway he would have to cross over to travel on the left hand side. The driver had no other option but to drive up the right shoulder till he got closer to the accident. When off the highway he was driving int he left/median, looked fine.
@NYPD265 Yes it does matter. If you're in an emergency with lights and sirens blaring, run a red light without slowing or stopping to ensure it's clear and see what happens to the driver of the emergency vehicle...
@narutoandavatarrocks Quick Trip, i wasnt sure if u had em up there. But down here is GA right now its $3.17, quick trip is the cheapest place u can buy it, im buying a prius! lol
the hood latch is connected to the handle by a cord and more times then not if the car is on fine the cord will snap thats why they didnt do it like that
They should have a bunch of law enforcement vehicles follow "lights & sirens" vehicles so that they can cite drivers who don't pull over and stop for emergency vehicles. Any state could make a lot of money just from these infractions. Remember: fire/paramedic units could be going to help your family member.
yeh in america, every firetruck in america has a high pitched screeming air raid siren, the siren most ambulances use is normally used everywhere else on firetrucks. (the 2 tone type siren)
Saber ToothGaming It's not an air raid siren for starters, and I don't even know how got that idea because it no where close to one...it's electro- mechanical.Canada uses them,South America,USA,some parts of europe. It's one of the most efficient traffic clearing devices on the market right now.And if not a Federal Q,it will probably be some sort of other Fedsig siren,or a powercall, whelen siren etc.You will rarely find trucks in North America with Martin Horns or some type of other 2 tone siren that is strictly 2 tone.
They did just fine. The people who caused the problems went left instead of right like you're supposed too. The only thing I'd do different is to block more lanes.
my only question/comment for this video... Why the hell are you some of them guys walking up to the car in the bumbers path?! if that bumber had the bumber shocks and they blew ( and having fire up front really ups the odds) the two or three on the car side would have been taken out from the knees down. would have been transporting three ff'2 to er for leg injuries of anything from dislocated knee cap up to amputation
First-class work! Many greetings from the fire companions from Berlin / Brandenburg - Germany.
STRONG work on that siren. GREAT driving!
Anybody else notice the other engine responded at exactly the same time? Impressive
it makes em move when that siren fully cranks up, love it
they did a great job driving there the fire fighter driving was calm a collected and kept his kool.great job..also great job putting the fire out..
Nice driving! Plus I saw a Richmond sign! I live here
a very good Driver ! and a good Team!
Hello from Niko W.
Germany,Dortmund LZ19
@Brettfirefighter10 no. they happened to spray water on it. that made the explosion look. and the sound came from the door on the truck shutting
Great driving! Scared me when the camera tilted, I thought he hit that car.

Have you ever heard of a volume button?
your engineer did a great job at driving through that! :D
Personally I prefer the K-saw method but regardless
that was great work and awesome driving.
@slhfire
At least everybody was able to exit the car safely without any injuries. How long did it actually take to get to the fire?
@SH3RIFF187 -- the Halligan bar does a nice job on the hood, doesn't it?
Good job, but both an electronic and physical siren, plus a loud airhorn. Damn. Do your crews wear earplugs?
that's why you approach the bumper of a car from 45 degree angels. always
@NYPD265 We have loads of em, there's tons of hybrids on the roads in NY/Northeast but no Quiktrips. We were one of the few places in the US where gas hit and surpassed $4 a gallon.
@braidengodfrey1 they use the metric system smarts mcgee, what you saw was $3 a liter AKA 9 bucks a gallon
A little fire fighting tip from Wisconsin, use an abrasive saw on that hood! Cut an upside down V over the top of that latch and it pops right open!
Think the people in the green Taurus had the radio on just a ittle bit too loud?
Other than that great response driver was cool calm collected and quick on the wheel lol!
Hurray for beltway traffic. I live in N. Va and just yesterday it took me 2hrs to go 14 miles.
It's called a powercall tone on some siren systems, and on others, it's the warble tone. Are there other names used by other manufacturers? I don't know, lol
Very good job of driving in that cluster!
That's why every fire truck should have a turret gunner position!

+Brian Freese true stuff, I watched a fellow firefighter get his leg broke that way.
@FireGuy0213
Same for us, which is kind of odd since the units are government vehicles, which generally have right of way
@NYPD265 Where did you see that at?
Thanks for leaving the camera running, almost all of the vids are of responses and not enough action after arrival
correct me if im wrong but is it not illegal 2 not pull over for emergency vehicles?
I actually looked it up after seeing similar videos. The dislikes are the people that wouldn't yield to the fire engine. Nice job to all. Liyttle Blitz85 LZVFD, Ret.
As for your siren, absolutely fucking awesome, I am hearing impaired and by god I would hear this out of background noise or radio.
I seriously can't wait to be a firefighter 😳 So much respect 😘
same but u could be a firefighter explorer who does the same as a firefighter but isn't rly one u can go around your town or city to see if y'all have one and u have to be between the age of 14-18
@NYPD265 Where do you live for gas to be that high?
They have this wonderful invention for the purpose. It's called a tow truck.
@NYPD265 Lol whats the station called? thats funny.......here in Nj its like $3.09 or something....not high but not low...
@NYPD265 in Danbury, CT it's $3.55. Where I live in Westchester County, NY it's about $3.67 with $3.59 being the cheapest.
You got THAT right! Arguing in UA-cam videos is not worth the trouble, and it's definitely one of the greatest wastes of time mankind has ever invented.
Approach from an angle. Approaching from the front increases risk of injury from bumper shocks. Side increases risk of injury from blowing tires.
where is college park what state is that in
some pretty good emergency vehicle driving, ...
Were those cars not giving way reported to police?
Nice nice,
gotta love 'em sirens.
That was the closest truck?
This was E121 responding. If that's what you're asking?
@ARjordanMY hahha yeah. thank god i live in new hampshire. drivers are wicked respectful here.
Powercall + Q = Firetruck Awesomeness
Amazing, over in America they dont even close the roads. Cars passing metres away.

I hate the sound of the sirens just because I'm used to hearin different ones but love the video but how come some of the fire fighters were just standing around doing nothing?
@ARjordanMY try getting around push bike riders, they never seem to notice fire trucks coming up past them
That speed you are referring to is the speed of sound, I don't think he was traveling at or near 340 m/s.

once they got on the highway it was like a nightmare for the truck to get through but at least they had the shoulder to drive on.
I know there is a Q siren in the back ground but can anyone tell me the name of the other siren running?
here in sandiego california if u dont move u get a nice lil fine or ur car smached up or both
Federal Q mechanical Siren. Love it.
@BROWNINGgunz1 Its $3.46, where i live and its supposed to be $4.60 by may!
WOW!!! A tow truck, wow!
@NYPD265 Yes it does matter. If you're in an emergency with lights and sirens blaring, run a red light without slowing or stopping to ensure it's clear and see what happens to the driver of the emergency vehicle...
@NYPD265 lol thats not to shabby.......yea Quick trip isnt up here but a Prius doesn't sound bad in our times....
where is this cuz i saw the sign that said richmond va
The gray pickup didn't pull over, instead sped thru traffic...weird.
But than again, we are speaking about the WashDC area...and US Route 1
Where was the PD to stop traffic?
cars dont pull over or what? here in canada you need to pull over to the side of the road and come to a stop, no matter what side of the road
supposed to be the same here in the States, some people are just assholes!
kevin O that's true
Marc Frappier they are to do that here in the states too.
Marc Frappier they are to do that here in the states too..
That's quite a nuisance if the fire engine isn't even on your side of the road.
@speedball10169 Yeah gas here isnt $4 yet, but its getting close
@jamsams Once the police get there they will close the lane the car is on and the lane next to it obviously.
@narutoandavatarrocks Quick Trip, i wasnt sure if u had em up there. But down here is GA right now its $3.17, quick trip is the cheapest place u can buy it, im buying a prius! lol

@narutoandavatarrocks Yeah it was cheap! Where i live its $3.20!
As apposed to the Arrg Arrg of everywhere else?
@BROWNINGgunz1 Yeah no joke, where i live its almost double that!!
my right ear enjoyed this
I agree, but there's not much of a shoulder on that road
If It's barely salavagable by the time the F.D get there, they'll fully destroy it it for you! :) Great video!
Powercall like a beast
the sirens a bit outdated air raid sirens dont you think, bu they probely work
Outdated? lol Almost every single firetruck I have ever seen uses the Federal Q... it is not an air raid siren.
yeh in america, every firetruck in america has a high pitched screeming air raid siren, the siren most ambulances use is normally used everywhere else on firetrucks. (the 2 tone type siren)

lol, both rigs got on scene at the exact same time, but on opposite sides of the highway.
@djrootmusic....thanks man
Can't beat a Federal Q and air horns!
@FireFighter00020 Its A Power Call Siren.
That would be a powercall smart guy.
Does the sound of sirens not tell people to move the hell out of the way!
Some of those bonnet catches, can be a real bastard to get open
Thanks for moving to the side
my right ear enjoyed that
Do you guys think you can save it?
Nice job wearing your air pack and then not using. Why?
What, are you saying they -shouldn't- pull over?
my right ear enjoyed this video
They did just fine. The people who caused the problems went left instead of right like you're supposed too. The only thing I'd do different is to block more lanes.
Oooh ok. The way you phrased it seems different. I got ya.
Bumper shocks WILL explode, seen it happen. That's why you are taught to approach from the side.
Damn people do not yield or move over for stopped emergency vehicles, TN its a 300.00 fine
That resturant at 0:10 is long gone, besause of @rescue911de Ambulance 812 response out of this same hall.
my only question/comment for this video...
