So in this video I'm giving my overall thoughts and impressions of the Zanpakuto Rebellion Arc, but of course in the future, I plan to do individual videos on the arc and its characters, plus discuss the other filler arcs too! As for the question this time, it's a simple pair - what did you think of this filler arc, and which zanpakuto spirit was your favourite? Let me know!
This was the best, most interesting filler arc in my opinion. Full of new characters with same or completely different personalities like their masters, the story is full of fights, well made. My favourite ones are Haineko and Kazeshini. Im drawing Haineko now, will consider drawing Kazeshini as well. ^^
curious if you would ever consider doing a video on characters in the Manga vs Anime, started watching your older videos and noticed the Anime really did take alot of liberties with characters like trying to make Ichigo x Rukia or Yoruichi x Soi Fon a thing when those couples never existed in the manga.
Favourite zanpakutoo spirit... I like them all equally ❤ but I if must choose it is either Sode no Shirayuki, Hyoorinmaru, Tobiume, Senbonzakura, Suzumebachi, Katen Kyookotsu or Muramasa
I liked how the Zanpakutos had their reasons for rebelling and made this perfectly clear to their owners, dropping some hard truths to them about past failures or hypocrisies. It was a solid arc even if it was filler.
@@raymondyongho5757 I would have loved to have something like that be officially Canon as it would have beautifully set up her full mental recovery in the TYBW arc.
It was awesome. I just wish we got to see both versions of Zangetsu out and about. Would have great to see how Hollow Zangetsu interact with the other Zanpakuto, and maybe even join Muramasa. I know he tried and failed to recruit him but still. Could have been awesome to see how everyone reacted to seeing the Hollow version of a Vizard's powers (Yes I know Hollow Zangetsu is Ichigo's soul reaper powers but at that point in the story nobody knew that) Side Note: could have been cool to see Old Man Zangetsu fighting Hollow Zangetsu directly
You telling me you don`t like the filler where Senbon sakura goes around doing mischief and Zabimaru gets blamed for it the whole time? Ending with the emotional reveal that Byakuya was kind of a prankster as a child. What an episode, true innovation!
Yeah that was my shit. The best part of this arc was that Zanpaktou gave you more insight into the shinigamis personalities and struggles. Hisagi being the best example of this.
Fun fact: The main writer of the Zanpakutou Rebellion arc was Tsuyoshi Kida. The same guy wrote the original draft for the Reigai arc. He also wrote and directed 2 of the Bleach rock musicals.
He's written some of my favorite Bleach content. I like that Kubo appreciated the works of other writers and wasn't afraid to use what could help his main story, but he also never let those works define his either, only support.
To be honest, I think the bount arc, if it wasn’t so long, is perfectly placed betweens aizens betrayal and going to hueco mundo because it gave aizen time to prep in hueco mundo since, without prior knowledge that aizen already set up base and took over hueco mundo the bount arc just gives aizen that time to make everything he achieved seem believable
It also worked in Ichigo's struggle with his hollow and Uryu's loss of powers very well which gave them more time to struggle with these issues prior to dealing with them in the next arc.
@@Arrowz_88 Yes, but it goes from the betrayal to a brief setup for the next arc, and then the arrancar attack Karakura Town. Even if Aizen had things set up, it works better for pacing.
The reason it's my favorite filler is because not only do we get to see awesome zanpakuto spirits, but also the last battle, byakuya vs koga is just mesmerizing! His bankai looked SOOOO beautiful in that animation style
@@WeyardWiz zabimaru was a baboon with a snake tail,it somehow changed to a women???hyorinmaru is a dragon that changed to a man??? Bruh thats dumb as fuck and changed whats already canon. Did they ever refrence muramasa again no, why? Because its a waste of time
I had actually completely forgotten that the Zampakuto Rebellion arc design of Katen Kyōkotsu actually ended up becoming canon to the manga, that really is extremely cool! Also, Byakuya VS Koga is one of the best fights in the entire anime.
@@Bob-wr4vg I know this is a year later, but the arc itself might actually be canon too (though, the designs are of the Zanpakuto are 100% canon since Kubo created them himself). The arc gets referenced in Bleach: Can't Fear Your Own World, and I think it even gets mentioned in Bleach: Spirits are Forever with You and maybe the Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War anime (though, I'm not sure about that last one).
I remember when the main group of shinigami accidently found Mayuri's Zanpakuto and everyone's immediate reacts was just to run away! Thinking about it still makes me chuckle
@@dustinodunne3572 from a observational standpoint I’d never fuck with ashisogi gizo but from a logistical/ mechanical standpoint it’s actually extremely easy to take down. Think of it like a oversized toxic bull, the only danger zone is directly in front of it wherever it’s looking so if you can avoid those areas then it’s danger rating flys way down. Gas spreading is still a pertinent issue so you’d have to take it down quickly before it has too many chances to barf so your best bet is to take it down titan style by targeting either the back of the neck or it’s head. Now if we’re talking about it’s compressed version that’s a whole other ball park. That thing I wouldn’t even attempt to fuck with as it’s target boxes are massively smaller and it’s mobility will skyrocket
I love the fact that Ryujin Jakka wasnt shown cause lets be real there isnt any physical form that could represent these immense power. And my fav spirit is porpably Kazeshini :3
I would have liked to see Soosuke's, Kaname's and Gin's zanpakutoo spirits and their zanpakutoos thoughts about their betrayls and inner information about their masters' reasons I love this arc and it has inspirated me with so much with the idea of sentimental swords and their connection to their masters ❤ Is there any possiblity you can do "New captain" arc? It had interesting themes and characters and depths to them I loved.
Just based on the little sketches Kubo does in the Manga, I like to think Shinso is a giant Python or Viper. Almost like a flesh and blood version of Renji's initial Bankai
When I think of actually good filler arcs I hear this one's great for a filler arc but my favorite is from yugioh dm waking the dragons arc that arc was great Imo
@@MegaShingo97 the reigai arc was good but the clone army thing is such a comic book cliche. The sword spirit thing is a better concept executed about as well.
I appreciate these discussions. You’re the reason I got back into the anime recently and even just finished TYBW. I just need to read Can’t Fear Your Own World.
@@edwinsandra5904 yes but at the time it wasn’t confirmed nor was it obvious since yachiru used “shikai” before that in the arrancar arch. It through everyone off back then. Now looking back on it. It laughable how right people were and still ignored
I remember getting really annoyed at filler interrupting Fake Karakura Town but then this arc blew people away. It felt so weird to be excited for filler each week. Sode no Shirayuki was probably my favourite, likely on the virtue of Rukia being my favourite character. Not that they would have been in the arc at all, but it would be neat to see what Aizen or Gin's zanpakuto spirits might have looked like.
@@jams1070 I actually wonder if Aizen would be chill with his sword, if his zanpakuto is just as twisted as he is everyone would be doomed, 2 masterminds in the play would be devastating, and if his zanpakuto didn't want to participate in any of the fcked up crap Aizen had done, I think it would be badass seeing Aizen defeat Kyoka Suigetsu by himself, its been stated several times his zanpakuto isnt the only reason why he's so powerful, but seeing such display of power first-handed would most certainly get the point across for the people who still dont get it well unfortunely this never happened and never will, even if Aizen was the arc idk how they would manage to even attempt to free Kyoka Suigetsu
I think my actual favorite parts are the small things, like wabiske. Kira uses a lot of very pronounced swings with wabiske but the sword spirit like sneaks up on you and just subtly gently taps someone’s sword like 6 or 7 times before they realize their sword now weighs a ton.
Setting aside the obvious fan service regarding Zabimaru's female form, I did think that anthropomorphizing the monkey and the snake aspects separately was an interesting dynamic. And looking back the Zanpakuto Rebellion with the context of the TYBW, I think Sōō Zabimaru's duplicity and design are meant to feel like callbacks to the Rebellion sprit designs. I think Sode no Shirayuki is probably my favorite spirit. I think her design is simple, but in the good way; clean and elegant. I definitely think Hakka no Togame is also meant to harken back to the Rebellion Arc. Or at the very least, both are supposed to evoke the yuki-onna imagery.
It doe fit since the monk even say the name is only Half the full name so fitting that then that has a two sprit form probably to reflect that and the sex change thing Renji had done to them
Kouga would have been an absolutely insane Captain. He could have accelerated Bankai training massively and I’d put money on him countering the Wandenreich medallions.
Kouga would've also been able to remove Yhwach's power from the quincies. Muramasa was able to remove OMZ. Quincies can still use their schrift after having Yhwach's power removed(like bazz b after Auswahlen.) So they'd still be able to fight, just very weak
I think that zanpakuto's spirits have two forms, one beastly and one humanized, as zanpakuto itself changes in shikai and bankai. Just few shinigamis know about this because almost no one meditates on bankai as ichigo did in dangai. I think those spirits on the rebellion arc are the bankai spirit.
Komamura may be different, he might have the same spirit form, as his shikai summons a part of the giant and his bankai the complete same giant. i bet he summoned the head sometime haha.
This and the reigei arc were pretty good. They had decent storylines and I still enjoy watching them every once in a while. Just recently rewatched the Reigei arc myself.
So Muramasa is my favorite character in the Bleach universe. His design, abilities and how is inner world is depicted. Which probably says more about me than the anime but I digress. There is one thing the MrTommo misses that I think everyone who has ever reviewed this arc misses is that Kouga was falsely accused and imprisoned by the elder Kuchiki and Yamamoto. Kouga saved their hides from a rebellion and then is betrayed for it. I do wish more attention would be given to this.
@@deterlanglytone It was its master Koga that was falsely accused of murder. The arc shows the Soul Society at its worst. All due to the fact that the Zanpakuto was too powerful and upset the powers that be. There is more to this arc than one would suspect on a casual watch.
@@deterlanglytone The ones he killed were the one plotting against him and were the ones leading the rebellion within the Soul Society. They were losing the fight until Koga stepped in and crushed them only received scorn for it.
I was actually surprised when I saw Kyorako's bankai in the manga and see these 2 zanpaktou spirits from this arc and additionally Rukia's bankai who really look like the spirit of her zanpaktou.
Nobody remembers Ashido Kano? That badass shinigami who does not have a bankai , but have a weird shikai that ingergrated with a hollow mask, yet survived living in huoco mundo... and Rukia promised to save him? Anyone remember him? Rukia don't but i'm sure somebody else here remembers.
I know it's supposed to be his "Ultimate Technique" but I always wished Byakuya used the Hakuteiken more often, I think it's my favorite and definitely one of the coolest looking attacks in the whole series. So I was obviously really happy that he used in this arc.
This filler was honestly my favorite to the point that I always end up rewatching the episodes I liked the most to this day. Hands down definitely the best filler arc. Really happy you decided to cover it.
I'd love to see this arc return as a canon movie (like Broly and Ressurecion of F), with Kubo producing or writing the script. Maybe touching more on the "blade is me" aspect of the manga. It would be perfect. While on the subject, would love to see Hell Verse done right as well.
It would be really nice to have it take place in between fullbring and blood war. That little void has much potential for pre-true shikai bleach material
Despite how dirty Komamura is done in this arc, I think its inevitable that he would be defeated by Tenken as he does seem to rely on his zanpakuto more than other characters. Especially his Bankai. Without access to his bankai I couldnt see him winning.
Strange that apparently Yamma's zanpakto didn't rebel but Sajin's did? I thought Sajin's bond with Tenken was the strongest and it wouldn't betray him...but he's the very first to go down besides Chojiro
This is what a filler arc should be. It's not the main story but it adds so much lore and history to already established characters. And in the end everyone reverts back to their main story selves, yet we as the watcher have more understanding of their, needs, wants, vulnerabilities etc.
Interesting thought: if Muramasa used his power on a Quincy, does that mean he could manifest the piece of Yhwach's soul from inside of them just like he did with Ichigo? If so, then that would mean Muramasa's power isn't so limited as to only work on shinigami and their zanpaktou. Using that premise, it would be interesting to contemplate what other types of powers Muramasa might be able to influence. I doubt it would work on arrancar, since their resurrection is only described as part of their power sealed into the shape of a sword and has never been implied to have its own spirit like zanpaktou do, but I wonder if it could affect something like Tres Bestias' Allon.
I love the arc because we get to see sides of the characters we wouldn't see otherwise. We get to kind of see their relationship to themselves and their power as well as their zanpakuto's personalities, which show us new sides to their personalities. I really liked the episode (can't remember which one) where senbonzakura destroys so much of the seiretei, because it shows that the more impulsive and short tempered byakuya from turn back the pendulum is still reflected in his zanpakuto, and I thought that was cool (and really funny).
I wish this arc was canon, but I dont know where in the canon story it would go, maybe between the Arancar and Fullbring arc, like the last anime filler arc?
It is very weird to me that Rangiku didnt give her zanpakuto that has cat in it to Yoruichi and she herself focused more on kido as in we dont have one single woman in all of bleach that concentrates soly on kido-spells
You can't fit in there because Ichigo still has full access to his Shinigami powers (he has theme in the Reigai arc, but they were fading), also Zangetsu can use Ichigo's bankai while looking old, while in the manga, he's much younger in the bankai state.
I totally agree with your analysis, and I think the Zanpakuto's arc is not just the best Filler Arc of Bleach, but amongs all anime filler arcs in general. By the way, you hit the right spots, this arc started totally great with the sword's rebellion, see the Zanpakuto's true forms and their relationships with their owners was the most interesting point, but also Muramasa was such a good villain (I also think little inspired by Ulquiorra), his way to plan and use the others, his backstory and reasons, and then all the part connected to Koga, Byakuya and the Kuchiki's family honor. It was just an incredibile, even if it share the problem of all filler arcs, I mean when they make it. I mean, filler are made just to take and gain time, so the manga could proced with his pace, but ofc put an entire arc in the middle of another manga's story arc (and one of most interesting parts), if you were following just the anime and waiting for Espada's fights, was no the best. Not only for this, but also for contextualization, cause the Zanpakuto's arc is the one who had most problems of "insert in the story" of the 4 filler arcs. I mean, the Bount saga take place in a middle space between Soul Society and Arrancars (it has other problems, but not of time place), almost the same story for Reigai arc (another good filler imho), taking place after the whole arc of Arrancar but before Ichigo lose his powers at all. Amagai filler arc could be inserted, perhaps forcibly, during the first part of Arrancar saga, before the kidnapping of Orihime and the voyage to Hueco Mundo. But Zanpakuto have a problem here, cause we see people like Renji (and maybe others I dont' remember) have memories of the battle's against Arrancars, also other thing are showned, but it's hardly take place after that arc's end (not only cause we have the Reigai saga too). Ignoring this problem, the Zanpakuto's arc was amazing, but for me had two problems, or better it lacks of one thing that is connected to my main point. Well, one minor problem, that's not a problem at all, was that they didn't showed all the zanpakutos at all. I mean, they did a great job and try to make them all appears, but in the end they forgot someone. Make sense that Nozarashi didn't appear (cause Zaraki's condition and cause he was away too), or (sadly) we didn't see Benihime (but Urahara was on Earth), but for example we'd miss Isane and Iba swords. They are not important, it's true, but it was just completeness, cause they also presented Gonryoumaru and spoils Sasakibe powers (who were revelead only years afters, in TBYW), they could have done the same for those two (especially right now, cause they become captains and we don't know anything about their powers). The main problem, or at least for me, were the fights, cause there was epical fights in this arc, off course, but a few pair of interesting battle were put off-screen, and also some particular zanpakuto didn't show even a part of their powers. I know, the main cause behind this was not to make spoilers around, that's why Kyoraku vs Katen Kyokotsu wasn't seen (even if we see the little girl use Kageoni), Ukitake just "played" with Sogyo no Kotowari, or Minazuki didn't fight at all (even if that scary design make a spoiler for Unohana later). But not just them, also the 4 captains agains Ryujin Jakka or Zaraki vs Komamura's sword went off-panel. The purpose was not to make spoilers, now I'm re-watching Bleach and I'm actually at the Reigai's arc, seeing this saga suffers a little more of this problems (off course, cause they did it after Aizen's arc), but still I think, if those arc were made in other moment, with more knowledge of zanpakuto and shinigami true abilities, without the fear of spoiling, the result would have been different and perhaps a little better. Didn't change that I loved this arc so much, especially Ichigo and White vs Zangetsu and Muramasa, Zaraki's appearence, the dream team (Ichigo, Yoruichi, Zaraki, Kyoraku and Ukitake) in action going to save the captain commander, the Muramasa's troll to Ichigo to enter in the inner world of Yama-ji, and off course the final battle at all, Koga vs Byakuya, Muramasa Vasto Lorde, the Menos spam, and the last inner battle between Kurosaki and Muramasa. Splendid, was a perfectly crafted filler arcs, except for those little missing points mencioned before.
Ah well, I didnt mentioned this, but it's obvious. The zanpakuto and the reigai arc were the best ones not only for the time the did them (cause ofc, at that point of the story, most of shinigami's were a little more devoloped and shown their powers, therefore more material available), but also for a more fanservice way. In the end, show the true zanpakuto forms of (almost) all the shinigamis was a main point of interest as a fan, and make them battle against the Gotei 13 was some like shinigamis vs shinigamis at the end, when in the reigai arc the concretize this thing with real battle between shinigamis XD The Bount Arc for me suffered most the first point, lot of characters that didn't show their true powers (for example, it make me laugh in the Bount Arc, when they sent Kira, Matsumoto, Hisagi and Yumichika to defeat those vampires, only the first two use their abilities, the others not, even in extreme danger situation or to defeat the opponent, cause Kubo hadn't revelead them yet), more than the nerfed MC (Ichigo, Ishida and Rukia), but that wasn't the only problem. There was a lot of creativity for the powers of the enemies, very interesting I say, but the story in the first half went almost nowhere, just random fights and not epic at all (a little better in the second half in Soul Society), nad more of that, excluiding Jin Kariya and perhaps one more, they lacked of personality. While Amagai saga proposed a good story, exploring better the Soul Society, but they miss something here too. I mean, Amagai was a great character, and I also liked a lot Kira's development is about his division (I think he's my favourite vice-captain, or one the best among them), but the middle was a little boring, also the fights against those ninja weren't so great (perhaps just one of Ichigo, were he lived an illusion with this mother, was good). For what I recall, only in the end, when a rebellion almost started, things become interesting, with Ichigo suspected of a crime and a part of Gotei 13 against him (curious how this happens many times, even in the third movie and in the reigai arc), Kira vs Kibune, the attack on the villa of the conspirators and in the end Amagai's battle against Yamamoto and later Ichigo. For the Zanpakuto's arc I have already writed, while for the Reigai I'm re-watching it right now, but seems also this arc didn't miss the right point (let's be honest, who never dreamed a Zaraki vs Zaraki fight?).
I thoroughly enjoyed the Zanpaktou Rebellion arc. It gave you insight of the relationship between a Shinigami and the Zanpaktou. The insight gave you the understanding of how the Shikai and Bankai is allowed to the wielder.
My favorite moment is when old man Zangetsu has the look of "Oh no you don't" when he realizes White is actually cooperating with Ichigo willingly for once so that part of the fight made me think he intentionally lost just to regain control just like how two kids fight for the attention of thir parent(s)
It was a great filler arc. The interesting fact also is that when it came to Zanpakuto's spirits Zaraki was nowhere to found. Also makes you think that Ginrei was used more in filler arc than canon story which is a disappointment. I didn't liked that some Zanpakuto's like Toshiro's and Renji's spirit forms were humanized and that's probably because we saw them in canon story as creatures. Two biggest mysteries? Ryujin Jakka and Minazuki. I think they didn't used them like other Zanpakuto for the sake of intrigue but always wondered what would have Ryujin Jakka looked like. As always interesting video. Keep up the good work MrTommo.
I would really love to see you make a review of the Bount Arc lmao. It gets so much hate, it's pretty much a consensus in the Bleach community to just forget it, but I think it would be cool to hear a review from you, mentioning the failures of the arc.
Definitely my favorite arc. I think of it as Canon because it serves as character development for all characters involved. I love how you learn to not like muramasa, then at the end you feel sorry for him.
So the Zanpakuto rebellion ark is my favorite arc in the entire series, manga or anime. A close second is the part of the TYBW when we met Oetsu, and he repaired the broken Zanpakuto. Zanpakuto fascinated me, and still do, and so seeing them in these new ways... it was so exciting for me.
To clarify your memory of exactly when in the manga this was, the episode where it was Kenpachi vs. Byakuya was the same week that they were squaring up to fight in the manga during the Yammy fight.
Regai for me. Loved the storyline, the animation, the fights between the copies of the captains was very EPIC and the development for Kon. But the Zanpukatou Arc was very intersting, getting the chance to see everybody Zanpakuto forms as well as the interesting past of Muramusa. Most filler arcs in any Anime, aren't always exciting, but these two were different some of the rare exceptions.
Thanks for the new videos keep it coming. This isn't my favorite filler arc that would the reigai arc, that being said I do have a deeper appreciation for the zanpakuto rebellion arc now since I've watched this.
I've been hoping you'd review and maybe rank the filler. I think the Bount arc had amazing potential. Actually, a lot of the bleach filler had good potential
I was not that crazy about this particular filler arc. It wasn't terrible, but I felt like it really made a major shift from everything we had thus far learned about the core concepts of Zanpakuto, and the world-building that underlay them. I get the sensibility behind it in that the Zanpakutos all had valid reasons behind their rebellion, but it didn't really make sense how they were suddenly able to manifest themselves, why so many had different forms than before (particularly the explanation behind the fanservice-y new look of Zabimaru was so thin and facile). The other thing is that it opens up so many implications for what Zanpakutos can actually do and be on their own that opens up the question of why this didn't happen sooner, or why it couldn't easily happen again. Finally, when the canon brought more details to light about how Zanpakuto are actually forged, it starts to make the nature of the rebellion even more confusing. My sort of controversial view is that the Bount Arc is arguably the best of the filler arcs. One thing about it is that it is internally coherent. It doesn't really break the world-building of Bleach in any significant way because it is pretty self-contained. It fits in well from a timing aspect as it would explain why Aizen would have all the time needed to assemble forces prior to the Hueco Mundo arc. The only real implication is the addition of yet another race with yet another form of inexplicable spiritual powers; which I feel anyway happened within canon with the advent of Fullbringers. But by doing it this way, it doesn't really damage anything already set forth about the existing races within the Bleach universe. I also feel that the arc as a whole highlighted Ichigo's primary weakness -- he's mentally fragile and his lack of experience and shallow comprehension of his powers makes for weak scaffolding.
Well, yes, but it is also true that said manipulation did not implant any in-universe falsehoods, so to me, it was more like the Zanpakuto were made to enact a rebellion that they could have mostly otherwise justified could they have acted on it. Also, as I recall, the one manipulating them was another Zanpakuto, which implies a lot of things about how much liberty Zanpakuto have to act on their own. The only example in-universe of Zanpakuto manifesting physically was supposed to be Yachiru/Nozarashi, and that was supposed to be an exceptional case -- that arc broke that special status.
Despite being a filler arc, this was a very important one because it had so many foreshowing for thousand year blood war arc. Like this could've easily fit in well after the fight with Aizen.
Whenever my friends say they just want to read the manga I still always recommend watching this filler arc because for me this is the most beautiful one.
Something of note. When white is fighting muramasa. They have interesting dialogue Muramasa: "I see Ichigo is suppressing you." White: That guy suppressing me? Muramasa: am i wrong? White: Absolutely Muramasa: Then what is it White: none of your business. So i do think Kubo *might* have told the anime staff about the twist. But who knows
Muramasa mentions being able to use his power on zanpakto then mentions his power works on white then he sets on trying to "free" white from Ichigo who rejects him and then in the following fight with old man zangetsu white gives ichigo power very similarly to how old man zangetsu gave power to ichigo during his fight with zaraki, really set of some alarm bells for me.
Such a cool filler arc! It was the only filler arc to get me hyped with all the Zanpakto Spirits! I also loved how it had such a strong impact that it bits of this became canon! Makes me happy! x3
I personally like the Invading Army/Nozomi Filler Arc more since it grappled with Ichigo’s dwindling power and, whilst it did sort of mirror the Zanpakuto Rebellion’s plot, I feel it did so better and felt more organic like how the Bount Arc did
Sasakibe's bankai, Kyoraku's double zanpakuto and a foreshadowing of Nanao being a rightful owner of Kyokotsu, Unohana's zanpakuto taking a form of a creepy-ass hood, Sode no Shirayuki being a literal teaser of Rukia's bankai, Mayuri being able to bring back broken zanpakuto, a hint of Yachiru being a manifested spirit of Zaraki's sword, and ANOTHER foreshadowing of Hollow Ichigo being a true Zangetsu. Did I forget any other example of TYBW foreshadowing?
I honestly adore that the essentially gave the Zampakuto’s their own story arc to remind everyone that they’re also sentient creatures with own free will and not just weapons that hurl coloured energy
Man I really love this arc also, one of the reasons is in the arc they snuck in the bonus chapter for Hitsugaya. If I remember correctly As soon as they announced movie 2 they also released that bonus chapter to boost hype for the movie, man that was like 2007-ish. Seeing it get animated as told by the small captain was nice to an already fun arc.
The Zanpakuto Rebellion is easily the best filler arc in "Bleach." Heck, I'm more willing to to consider it canon than most parts of the TYBW arc. It's hard to choose a favorite zanpakuto spirit, but I think I'll name Katen Kyokatsu in this case. Not just because she's the zanpakuto of one of my favorite characters, but because of the way she was used as foreshadowing of Kyoraku's powers and inclinations towards "games," which had yet to be revealed in the anime at the time. While most of the plot is an excuse to have shinigami battle their zanpakuto, the reason it's so compelling is because how it well done they all were. While it's hard to pick favorites in this arc, stand-outs for me include Ichigo teaming up with his Hollow self against Zangetsu, Rangiku & Hinamori against Haineko & Tobiume as their insecurities are addressed, Kira psyching out Kazeshini and grinning in such a way that reminds you he was Gin's lieutenant, and of course the final battle between Koga and Byakuya. One aspect I think you missed was how much Ginrei and Koga's relationship paralleled Byakuya and Rukia's. They are both driven shinigami who were not born Kuchiki but married/adopted into it, and they both are desperate to win the approval of their respective Kuchiki leader, and they both have feelings of insecurity and inadequacy. There's even a scene between Ginrei & Koga where the latter is reporting his successes and hoping for praise, but Ginrei merely stoically acknowledges with his back turned, a direct reference to an earlier scene where Rukia is reporting to Byakuya about her acceptance into the Thirteenth Division, only to be met with cold acknowledgement. To me, the way they did Ginrei & Koga's relationship was an excellent and tragic example of what *could* have happened between Byakuya and Rukia, if there had been no second chance for reconciliation between them. And you have a point in that Koga's design as a villain was influenced by Aizen, but one commonality in particular stood out to me. One of Koga's main motivations before he went nuts was to use his power to change the world, and Muramasa even tells Koga something along the lines of, "If the world won't accept you, then change the world so it will." When Aizen is defeated and sealed away, one of his rants to Urahara is, "Only losers accept the world as it is; winners change the world to their liking!" The funny thing is, I'm pretty sure this anime scene predated even the manga release of Aizen's defeat, so that meant this time, Aizen was the one influenced by Koga. It's actually lead to my head-canon that Koga may have in fact influenced a young Aizen. Personally, I don't think you give the Beast Swords mini-arc enough credit. Yes, the animation quality dipped, and the stories are a mixed bag, but there are some gems. For one, I actually like how they showed the aftermath of the battles in "Bleach," and the various reconstruction efforts that needed to take place. My personal favorite episode was the one with Nanao and Lil' Katen Kyokatsu; it's a nice bonding session that holds a lot more weight after a certain revelation in the TYBW arc. I'm glad you did a video on this, and I look forward to next one as you go more in depth with them!
Mr Tommo, could you do a video about your dream BLEACH game? Talking about: Combat mechanics, aesthetics, games modes, roster, etc. In my humble opinion I believe a competitive BLEACH fighting game would be phenomenal, either a 2.5D like Guilty Gear, or a 3D one like DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 3. Keep up the great work.
@tom gu And that's exactly why I'm specifically talking about COMPETITIVE fighting games, because I agree, those anime arena fighters are absolute trash (the exception being DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 3 and Raging Blast).
Yes yes yes!!! It was very special to see the characters gain a deeper love and respect and eventually a stronger power by bonding on a different level. Absolutely fantastic. It also gave headway to why final getsu was so sad. This was emotionally charged and well presented. I loved seeing how silly so many of them were
I always loved this arc, ik it’s a filler but it was good. It was super cool seeing the shinigamis and Zanpakutos actually interact beyond the Zanpakutos being in their sword forms ya know
The Zanpakuto Rebellion and the Regai arc are definitely the best. I'd even consider the Regai arc canon even though it conflicts with mod souls creation in the blood war arc. Heck, I think I've watched both filler arcs more than the canon arcs. Lol.
If the Bount Arc was cut from 45 episodes down to 25 or 30 while keeping the same story beats, it would've been much better received imo. Unfortunately that wasn't an option, since filler is made in the first place to pad for time.
@@purerage7963 yeah bleach was one of the first anime that I'd ever watched (aside from Pokemon), and had no concept of what a filler was, and I watched it thinking it was canon, not having the whole picture of the manga like most people had, I didnt had that feeling of "ugh what the hell? just give me aizen dammit!" that it seems like most people had, so I just watched like it was any other arc, and I surprisingly enjoyed it a little bit, the arc's placement was good, unlike most bleach fillers that happen in the middle of another arc, this one happened after the ending of one and the beggining of another, it felt natural and I enjoyed, had some complaints, specially about the pacing in the start, and the fact that the last fight was honestly underwhelming af, but the entire middle of it wasnt that bad tbh, I actually felt bad for the bounts, the idea of creatures that are all alone in the world not because they were extinct, but because they arent supposed to exist in the first place is quite interesting, they cant blend with the humans, shinigamis, quincies or hollows, they're truly alone, and the ending with that one muscular dude being the last bount alive actually made me sad af, because of his desire to have buddies to eat and live together with. then I went to search up in the wiki to see if he had at some point found other bounts or if he was still alive and found out the arc was "Filler" (and then I found out the meaning of that word) and I was dissapointed lmao
I felt like it started off incredibly interesting and i def wanted to see how each zanpakuto manifested, but like most filler arks it kinda drug on for too long and had a lackluster ending that by the time we got to it I was just bored and ready to get back to the main story.
When I went through bleach I purposely skipped all the filler cause I wanted to just follow the story. This filler is the only one I went back to watch and it was so dope
Muramasa's character design reminds me of Lelouch Lamperouge of code geass 0, based on my personal opinion. Hes also a sentimental badass, this arc hooked me up immediately as soon as i saw him came out on the series, he's power made this arc so interesting. this one is a hidden GEM!!!
You convinced me to have alook into it and I find it quite good. I had stopped the anime a bit before, so never saw it. Nive to see personified zanpakuto. WOuld have loved to see Ryujin Jakka and Kyōka Suigetsu too. But they likely are working in cooperation with their masters already, so consistent that they would remain loyaL
One thing I noticed that the zanpakuto that were defeated by their soul reaper are the ones who achieve bankai. Think about it the method to achieve bankai is to externalizing the zanpakuto spirit and subjugating the spirit in a dual of the spirit's choice. Ichigo, Renji, Byakuya, Toshiro, Ikkaku they achieve bankai so naturally they defeat their zanpakuto on their own
Just as a fun hint to the plot twist you were highlighting from 18:00 if you go back to the vizard arc when ichigo asked his hollow side as to where is old man zangetsu his hollow side responded "I Am Zangetsu"
While the beast sword arc was bad, it had what is probably my favorite non combat moment in bleach, the moment i refer to as kazeshini vs baby. It's because you have the edgy character that is kazeshini and he gets roped into taking care of a baby and he cares for it, legitimately. Knowing what we do now about the true nature of hisagi's shikai, I think it also stumbled across an accidental form of foreshadowing, because while kazeshini can bring death, and has the blades to prove it, he ends up caring for the baby, which is representative of life, and actually ends up resolving his character arc by realizing that not everything has to be about killing things, which is largely how they portrayed him throughout the earlier bits.
I've always really liked the look of the spear/halberd things that had been used to seal Koga and than are weilded by him. THey easily would have made a great shikai design for someone
This is how you do fillers-managed even to canonize the spirits of the Zonpakutos. My favourite has to go to Haineko and Senbonzakura cause of the incredible-looking design that he has. Koga coming out of nowhere wasn't altogether shocking and is fitting to see him and his relative* fighting and that Byakuya stopped his relative from dishonouring the Kuchiki name.
No its a waste of time. How are you going to turn what we saw in zabimaru a baboon with a snake tail into a weird lady baboon? Bruh thats dumb as fuck. They even changed the DRAGON SPIRIT hyorinmaru into a man??? Stupid stupid stupid
I didn't know this arc even existed. I started reading the Manga at around volume 20 because that was where the story ended with the dvds at the time. Plus the books were cheaper. And waaaaaaaaaaay better. I might have to look for some cheap dvds!
Koga's Bankai, in all likelihood, would have been classified as a forbidden one. Along with Aizen Sasuke, Shinji Hirako, the 7th Kenpachi, and Shunsui Kyoraku. Any Zanpakuto that has no beneficial and/or supportive function and that bypasses all physical/elemental damage to go straight for mental, emotional, or spiritual damage or control, is extremely dangerous and a major Class 1 threat. Why? Because there is exceedingly limited defense against them. Furthermore, they're unpredictable and rely on the absolute control and discretion of their wielder. Essentially, all of their Zanpakuto's Bankai abilities are Cheat Codes that turn on Creative Mode/God Mode. The absolute downfall of Koga here was that he was a Sociopathic Narcissist. He was insanely headstrong/strong-willed. He believed his own power to be absolute and that he was stronger than and above everyone else around him. He believed himself to be infallible and always in the right. He didn't trust or rely on anyone, instead merely thinking of them as tools to be used to an end. He didn't have friends or partners. He thought nothing of manipulating, controlling, or slaughtering people and felt nothing while doing it. He was impatient and irrational. And he lacked the ability to calmly observe situations with a clear mind and heart. All of which, are MAJOR Red Flags. Don't get me wrong, Pride and Overconfidence run in the Kuchiki Clan. But the difference between Koga and Byakuya is Night and Day. If I were in Byakuya's shoes, I would have done the same thing -- stripping Koga of all titles and privileges, and then executing him for the crimes of treason and for bringing disgrace and irreparable damage to the image of the Noble Kuchiki Clan. The 6th Division of the Gotei 13 is the Division looked at as the model Division that all other Divisions in the Gotei 13 should strive to be like. They are the ones that uphold the law and strive for perfection in all things.
I agree. This arc- while not perfect was easily the best filler. I think its mostly due to the larger involvement of Tite Kubo compared to other filler arcs where Kubo had little to no involvement whatsoever. Though he didn't do much, he did design the Zanpakuto spirits & their personalities himself and he did aid with story outlines as to ensure production would do justice in terms of bleach lore and how characters would approach such a situation & its resolution.
What did you mean when you said Ulqui returned to his trailer?
Favourite zanpakutoo spirit... I like them all equally ❤ but I if must choose it is either Sode no Shirayuki, Hyoorinmaru, Tobiume, Senbonzakura, Suzumebachi, Katen Kyookotsu or Muramasa
Kazeshine is awesome.
I liked how the Zanpakutos had their reasons for rebelling and made this perfectly clear to their owners, dropping some hard truths to them about past failures or hypocrisies. It was a solid arc even if it was filler.
I especially love how Momo's Zanpakuto calls her out on how she's always easily tricked by Aizen.
@@raymondyongho5757 I would have loved to have something like that be officially Canon as it would have beautifully set up her full mental recovery in the TYBW arc.
I think my favorite had to be when Suzumebachi called out Soi Fon for constantly simping for Youruichi.
@@corruptangel6793 the only problem would be placement.

I actually loved this arc. It was good to see the Zanpakutos as actually sentient beings. And the fights and animation were epic!
Muramasa is a compelling character.
It was cool until Koga was defeated and the arc went nowhere.
Sentient beings that they changed. Bruh its stupid as hell
It was awesome. I just wish we got to see both versions of Zangetsu out and about. Would have great to see how Hollow Zangetsu interact with the other Zanpakuto, and maybe even join Muramasa. I know he tried and failed to recruit him but still. Could have been awesome to see how everyone reacted to seeing the Hollow version of a Vizard's powers (Yes I know Hollow Zangetsu is Ichigo's soul reaper powers but at that point in the story nobody knew that)
Side Note: could have been cool to see Old Man Zangetsu fighting Hollow Zangetsu directly
@@ophhate you aren’t canon be gone
You telling me you don`t like the filler where Senbon sakura goes around doing mischief and Zabimaru gets blamed for it the whole time? Ending with the emotional reveal that Byakuya was kind of a prankster as a child. What an episode, true innovation!
The first part of the Zanpactou rebellion was great and the last few episodes were hilarious
Yeah that was my shit. The best part of this arc was that Zanpaktou gave you more insight into the shinigamis personalities and struggles. Hisagi being the best example of this.
It was great. I know this is sarcasm but it was good
Almost as good as that episode where Ichigo and the Shinigami goes to the beach
What filler

To be honest, I think the bount arc, if it wasn’t so long, is perfectly placed betweens aizens betrayal and going to hueco mundo because it gave aizen time to prep in hueco mundo since, without prior knowledge that aizen already set up base and took over hueco mundo the bount arc just gives aizen that time to make everything he achieved seem believable
It also worked in Ichigo's struggle with his hollow and Uryu's loss of powers very well which gave them more time to struggle with these issues prior to dealing with them in the next arc.
@@demon2441 And even with Rukia recoreving her powers and Orihime improving herself

@@Arrowz_88 Yes, but it goes from the betrayal to a brief setup for the next arc, and then the arrancar attack Karakura Town. Even if Aizen had things set up, it works better for pacing.

I know this is a year later, but the arc itself might actually be canon too (though, the designs are of the Zanpakuto are 100% canon since Kubo created them himself). The arc gets referenced in Bleach: Can't Fear Your Own World, and I think it even gets mentioned in Bleach: Spirits are Forever with You and maybe the Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War anime (though, I'm not sure about that last one).

@@dustinodunne3572 from a observational standpoint I’d never fuck with ashisogi gizo but from a logistical/ mechanical standpoint it’s actually extremely easy to take down. Gas spreading is still a pertinent issue so you’d have to take it down quickly before it has too many chances to barf so your best bet is to take it down titan style by targeting either the back of the neck or it’s head. Not that they would have been in the arc at all, but it would be neat to see what Aizen or Gin's zanpakuto spirits might have looked like.
The whole thing was a hallucination created by Aizen's.
Aizen’s Zanpakuto would just be a master manipulator 😂
@@jams1070 I actually wonder if Aizen would be chill with his sword, if his zanpakuto is just as twisted as he is everyone would be doomed, 2 masterminds in the play would be devastating, and if his zanpakuto didn't want to participate in any of the fcked up crap Aizen had done, I think it would be badass seeing Aizen defeat Kyoka Suigetsu by himself, its been stated several times his zanpakuto isnt the only reason why he's so powerful, but seeing such display of power first-handed would most certainly get the point across for the people who still dont get it
well unfortunely this never happened and never will, even if Aizen was the arc idk how they would manage to even attempt to free Kyoka Suigetsu
When Kouga stabbed Muramasa. I felt that.
He went through so much just to bring him back.
The moment I saw Kyoraku’s zanpakuto lady in the manga, I was immediately so happy to think this arc is canon
Most people see it as the spirit designs are canon but the arc isn't
It doe fit since the monk even say the name is only Half the full name so fitting that then that has a two sprit form probably to reflect that and the sex change thing Renji had done to them
This is not only my favorite filler arc, it's my favorite arc in all of Bleach. I love the concept, the execution, the battles, it's gorgeous.
Kouga would have been an absolutely insane Captain. He could have accelerated Bankai training massively and I’d put money on him countering the Wandenreich medallions.
Woulda been cool to see him in the detention unit of the stealth force. He’s tailor made for anti-shinigami fighting.
Something I wish the TYBW arc should have had was the Canon introduction of Ashido and Shunsuke Amagai
Kouga would've also been able to remove Yhwach's power from the quincies. Muramasa was able to remove OMZ.
Quincies can still use their schrift after having Yhwach's power removed(like bazz b after Auswahlen.) So they'd still be able to fight, just very weak
I mean he basically had a nerfed aizen shikai
@@Phantom_8222 Agreed, easily the best two filler characters.
I never thought about that. An interesting idea.
Komamura may be different, he might have the same spirit form, as his shikai summons a part of the giant and his bankai the complete same giant. i bet he summoned the head sometime haha.

I think the sword beast arc gets too much hate since it had to follow this but it was fun watching the spirits going through the day with there users
Monkey, Snake and Senbonzakura's adventure in Mayuri's research complex was a pure comedic gold.
I do wish more attention would be given to this.
isn't he framed for the murder of his wife or something?
@@deterlanglytone It was its master Koga that was falsely accused of murder. The arc shows the Soul Society at its worst. All due to the fact that the Zanpakuto was too powerful and upset the powers that be. There is more to this arc than one would suspect on a casual watch.

I didn't even know this arc existed until this year when I re-watched bleach on Hulu and out of nowhere it was just there
Kouga and Muramasa's story is honestly heartbreaking. Probably one of the best written character story lines in bleach for a filler.
I remember when the Bleach anime ended it was only 7 chapters behind the manga. They really were riding hard and fast
I really enjoyed this arc. Sode no Shirayuki is my favorite. She's beautiful. And the fight between Byakuya and Kouga was really well done.
Having skipped this arc, I might actually go back and rewatch this. You sell it pretty well.
Great video as always too!
I'd love to see this arc return as a canon movie (like Broly and Ressurecion of F), with Kubo producing or writing the script. Maybe touching more on the "blade is me" aspect of the manga. It would be perfect.
While on the subject, would love to see Hell Verse done right as well.
Well...about that last one. 😏
This is actually one of my favorite arcs in anime. The idea is absolutely fantastic.

@@ophhate Yah im glad you are a garbo filler
In the end, show the true zanpakuto forms of (almost) all the shinigamis was a main point of interest as a fan, and make them battle against the Gotei 13 was some like shinigamis vs shinigamis at the end, when in the reigai arc the concretize this thing with real battle between shinigamis XD
The Bount Arc for me suffered most the first point, lot of characters that didn't show their true powers (for example, it make me laugh in the Bount Arc, when they sent Kira, Matsumoto, Hisagi and Yumichika to defeat those vampires, only the first two use their abilities, the others not, even in extreme danger situation or to defeat the opponent, cause Kubo hadn't revelead them yet), more than the nerfed MC (Ichigo, Ishida and Rukia), but that wasn't the only problem.
I think Minazuki would just be the green manta ray thing that shows up whenever unohana activates it normally
I loved the Zanpakuto Rebellion filler arc, watched it twice. Once when I was watching Bleach and then again after finishing the anime.
I love that Momo got some spotlight in this arc
I don't think you understand that all the zanpakuto were being manipulated in the arc. They didn't really rebel.
They have interesting dialogue
Muramasa: "I see Ichigo is suppressing you."
White: That guy suppressing me?
Muramasa: am i wrong?
White: Absolutely
Muramasa: Then what is it
White: none of your business.
Makes me happy! x3
I personally like the Invading Army/Nozomi Filler Arc more since it grappled with Ichigo’s dwindling power and, whilst it did sort of mirror the Zanpakuto Rebellion’s plot, I feel it did so better and felt more organic like how the Bount Arc did
Thanks for the video
I wish all bleach filler revolved around exploring the court gaurd squads characters into more depth like this. :')
I like it too it showed what many zanpaktos look like that we never seen before
This is my favorite Arc in the whole anime and Muramasa is absolutely my favorite character in the whole series
I personally would like something along the lines of kakorot but really any Bleach game would be amazing.
@@LittleCuddlePrincess same id also love an small rpg game that plays like the recent sao game
I'd like one kinda like Naruto Ninja Storm 4
@tom gu And that's exactly why I'm specifically talking about COMPETITIVE fighting games, because I agree, those anime arena fighters are absolute trash (the exception being DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 3 and Raging Blast).
Yes yes yes!!! It was very special to see the characters gain a deeper love and respect and eventually a stronger power by bonding on a different level.
Absolutely fantastic.
It also gave headway to why final getsu was so sad.
This was emotionally charged and well presented. I loved seeing how silly so many of them were
One of the best filler arcs ever. & kinda surprised nobody ever really covers the "Diamond Dust Rebellion" movie
Lol.
I just learned from this video that the bount arc and this arc were filler because I never got that far into the bleach manga
Unpopular opinion : First half of Bounts arc was good, even if it seems to be another anime (more vampire atmosphere, ost etc...)
I think one of the major reasons people don’t like that arc is how slow the beginning is
If the Bount Arc was cut from 45 episodes down to 25 or 30 while keeping the same story beats, it would've been much better received imo.
This was the only filler arc that i actually enjoyed watching.
this was good but i wans't huge fan of 2nd half but my favorite was Reigai arc even thought i wasn't huge fan of Nozomi
For a filler arc, the animation seen in the Byakuya vs Koga fight is downright movie level stuff
It's funny that you uploaded this because I'm wrapping up watching this arc right now lol
I liked this arc pretty much and when I found out Kubo actually designed the Zanpakuto spirits made it even better.
One thing I noticed that the zanpakuto that were defeated by their soul reaper are the ones who achieve bankai. Think about it the method to achieve bankai is to externalizing the zanpakuto spirit and subjugating the spirit in a dual of the spirit's choice. Ichigo, Renji, Byakuya, Toshiro, Ikkaku they achieve bankai so naturally they defeat their zanpakuto on their own
This filler and the Bount filler was so good I thought it was actually part of the anime
@@ophhate Them having human forms was the coolest part lol
@@MILDMONSTER1234 nah dude
Great job mate!!! I look forward to your stuff every week. Between your videos and playing Brave Souls it has really reignited my love for Bleach!
