It's funny. I never heard a Romanian speak English with a slight Chinese accent.

@@ADevStory Accountant. I showed up at my first accounting job and they had all of these super complicated spreadsheets with a bunch of Vlookups. So I started developing relational databases to replace the vlookups. I used this to keep building up my skills and now I am a .Net dev. That's the short version anyways.

I quit my job as a biology research assistant and getting into coding/software engineering.....this is extremely unfamiliar territory for me and I hope my journey will not be too long as I am being self taught. I just worry finding a job will be very difficult if I don't have a background in software for employers and will just be discriminated all the time even if I have projects to show for my skills :/

Hi Yessi! I haven't been in your shoes but have met some that have and it is indeed very scary. Good thing is that the market is in your favor. There's high demand so with some practice and study you can probably get that first job that it's the challenging one :)
Just in case, don't miss any help you can get. For example codebar.io is an NGO that can help you find mentors (they periodically run events and now with the pandemic most sessions are remote).
      Good luck :)
