As a trans person who just found your channel and watched both tierlists, I 1000% agree on chihiro. Some headcanons can just be reductive to a character's arc and themes like that
I can totally see why people think he's trans (MTF), but I feel like they're reading to much into it. People need to remember this is Danganronpa we're talking about, and that it came out in 2010. Danganronpa is usually kinda straightforward with these kinds of things, and that in 2010, people were ig less "educated" on transgender in general. And they probably didn't even realize that it gave off that vibe. Ntm Japan and anime sorta glosses over trans things a lot.
i love chihiro, but i think it would have been great if he was actually able to go through his character arc and become braver as a result. idk i feel like it would have been nice had his character been expanded on
One good thing that THH did and other installments didn't was making Monokuma a character with plans, ideals and weaknesses, a truly interesting antagonist
Just watched this list after seeing the THH part of your first one and as a huge Sakura fan thought I ought to comment to thank you for your insight. I find your analysis to be pretty neat, because there's a lot of things you got right about her even from the first list- you more or less said that *(Danganronpa Trigger Happy Havoc spoilers under the cut)* she'd be the kind of musclebound character who's actually pretty compassionate (which is 100% accurate), but also that even that could be a trap/a front, and that there could be something more going on with her (and, technically... this fits pretty well with her having been the traitor all along!). I was amazed with you hitting the nail on the head so precisely- and then pretty destroyed by your takeway, haha :D, although I absolutely could not fault you for it. This is a character type that's normally not very interesting, and very surface-level. But this makes your commentary after playing all the more touching - I love that you used the word "immortalize" because that was exactly my feeling after playing the game. Just a general "this character is great and her arc made me feel like I experienced something important, I don't want to forget her." You're also way too right about her chapter being the saddest one. It was pretty meaningful, theme-wise, because it's both a victory for Sakura, who refuses to adhere to the mastermind's terms and shows the others that they can be opposed, and a pretty bitter one, as the only way for her to achieve that was death - and leaving the classmates she wanted to protect, chiefly Hina, with more despair and grief to struggle with. (and speaking of, her relationship with Hina is precious. One of the most meaningful bonds formed during THH, imho, and seeing Hina mention her and remember her long after she died tugged at my heartstrings every time) Sakura's friggin awesome, and the way you were talking about her made me pretty happy - thank you for this :)

I feel like a huge part of my (and maybe anyone's) love for Mukuro entails wanting more for her character that what her canon self got/turned out to be.
I remember thinking how scarily good you were at guessing most of these characters. It seriously made me think you secretly already played the game! Also, dang, sorry that you got spoiled on things like the Chihiro plot point. I see that happening *a lot* unfortunately. It sucks, especially when it's in a game like this (a straightforward mystery story) where it's *very* important that you don't get spoilers. If you get crucial pieces of evidence, or even a big portion of the story spoiled, then it doesn't just make the game 'easier'. What's the point of playing a mystery game if you know the answers? I also got spoiled on something recently, so I definitely understand the feeling haha
Spoilers don't bother me all that much in the long run. They're mildly annoying, but knowing the solution doesn't tell me WHY that's the case, or how it came to be. If someone told me "this character dies!" it's like... Okay, how? Who killed them? Why were the killed? What were the repercussions of this death? I still get to experience those aspects of the story.
I'm excited to hear your thoughts on the Danganronpa 2 characters once you play it because I actually think that game has the best and most likeable cast out of all of them. I personally think the first game has the weakest cast although there are still definitely some awesome characters in it. As for protagonists, I think Makoto is also the least interesting and likeable out of all of them. In my opinion the second game has the most likeable cast and the third has the most interesting cast probably.
I have played 2, I really like the cast a lot from that game, especially once it's revealed who they actually are. Adds a lot of depth to their actions and personalities IMO.

Whereas with Sonia and Gundham who's relationship had been building up throughout the whole game it's way more emotional But tbh even with Sonia and Gundham it wasn't as emotional as it should've been imo I think they could've made the two way more impactful but oh well
