One caveat is *teams would've played differently* knowing it was just a one-game series.
Think Dwyane Wade game 3 performance in the 2006 Finals. Down 0-2 and losing in the 4th, he went all out knowing this game was must win or they were not going to win the Finals.
Teams would've played with that same level of desperation knowing it was just one game. But in a 7-game series, teams were sometimes okay letting the 1st game go in preparation for a long series (i.e. resting starters at the end, experimenting with lineups and plays).
So the Cavs had a real shot of 2018 championship if not JR Smith

I would like see it adjusted for Players overall Game 7 w/L records cause loke for example while yes Jordan loses 2 chips right but who's to say that with his mentality that that Game 1 wouldve been played the same way

I always thought about something similar to this, but comparing the NBA to the FIFA World Cup champions (i.e. only having one winner every four years). For example, in order to really put into perspective the importance of Messi winning the 2022 World Cup, if for some arbitrary reason you only consider the NBA titles played on the same year as the WC (2022, 2018, 2014 and so on), then all of a sudden you get into a GOAT conversation where Steph, Kobe and TD all have two rings, MJ only has one (winning it on his last chance, just like Messi), LeBron has zero, and some other incredibly wild results

i really like this idea, also it kinda fits the football/soccer narrative to the 2 GOATS of both sports (Jordan-LeBron & Messi/Ronaldo). Yeah technically Jordan and LeBron played in the different era while Messi and Ronaldo in the same era. But still, it seems fun

I think the only way to truly rank Bill Russell would be to watch all the NBA Finals he was in and see how many MVPs he would have gotten had the award existed during his time. If he would have 8 or 9 out of his 11 titles, I think he would have a strong case for being the GOAT. Any lower and it would seem he was just a great player but sometimes needed others to be the best player in the series to win all his titles which Jordan didn't.
Kawhi could’ve also been in the conversation for top 12 or at least top 15, cuz he would have 3 rings

Maybe the NFL could kind of make playoff games into their own series. In the playoffs, each quarter could be treated as a game. They could kick off at the start of every quarter, alternating the team that kicks off. Whoever wins more quarters advances. If both teams win the same amount of quarters (2-2 or 1-1 in the case of tied quarters), the overall combined score of the four quarters would advance. If it's still tied, there's an overtime period...
i think thats a rumb idea because if you won the first 3 wuarters you automatically win the game
