Elliot, take it from an automotive wiring technician who has Cerebral Palsy and has worked on and rewired many American vintage and classic rides, and even some British rides like a Triumph TR3 and a MGB. If you have the drive and initiative to restore your Scimitar, then that's all you need to have a successful restoration. It may seem overwhelming at first, but perseverance pays off. I wish all the best with your restoration!!
This car is beautiful. Anyone saying it should be "sent to the scrapyard" is completely out to lunch lol. Good luck on the restoration! Looking forward to this series. 👀
The people who think it should be scraped are probably the same people who think Old = Worthless Junk. When most of the time old stuff is worth more than the new stuff.
I know, it drives me crazy when people say stupid things like that. They have no appreciation for classic or even just unique design. If they cannot at least entertain the idea of different tastes and design aesthetics then they should keep their damn mouths shut. Nobody likes haters, but they are everywhere unfortunately. Awesome car Elliot, I can't wait to see it restored perfectly! Keep up the great work, don't let the assh*les get you down. 😎
Love these Scimitars, my dad had three when I was growing up, a white one, a turquoise one, both SE5a's and one we called the custard cream that was an se6a that had an interesting brown two tone colour scheme! All were fantastic cars, looking forward to seeing this series, keep up the good work.
Word of advice having done similar. Buy lots and lots of plastic bags and lots of labels and small plastic containers with LIDS! put every single thing you take off into a marked bag and then a plastic box for each area eg sub frame bolts, radiator mounts. I learned this the hardway :D Looking forward to seeing this progress.
Absolutely. Big freezer ziploc bags where you can write details on are helpfull. Make pictures of ev'rything you diss assemble. These are helpfull to put things back together as after half a year or longer your memory is worth nothing.
Hi Elliot, in March I bought a 1978 Reliant Scimitar GTE in the green color your engine-compartment shows. This car is ABSOLUTELY unknown here in Germany and everywhere I park people stop in their tracks to tell me how elegant and exotic the shape ist and ask for specs. Actually, when you park beside a Porsche they gather around the Scimi and check it out. I´ve seen your video about the undercarriage and your car ist not in a bad shape. Of course, after 43 years on the road there must be some issues, but everything is in range to be fixed. The broken Rollbar is an known issue and with a reasonable effort manageble, especially when you respray the car anyway ( there has to be cut a 6 by 6 inch hole in the fiberglas) . I watched the "scene" for more than 2 years and I see that the Scimis (5 and 6) in reasonable condition are going up in value. Cars which were 6ooo two years ago now are at 8000 and more. In my humble opinion the fall of the prices for a Scimi is at a halt now and turning slowely, but definitely up. I do not understand why numberplates with less digits in England have more value, but so it might be. I will definitely will follow your work on that car and work on mine along. I´m glad you chose to keep it! (By the way- do you want to keep the towbar? I take it!) Looking foreward to the next episode!
Here’s the thing. Don’t assume you’ll get it right the first time. You’re gonna make mistakes. Learn from these and come out the other side with a whole new set of skills. Best of luck mate. Looking forward to the project.
Man, I, for one, love Reliant Scimitar GTEs. Always have. This is a perfect car for you Elliot, especially in that colour! Really looking forward to the build.
Glad you are doing I tryed for years to get one my self but in any restoration work if your not doing your self the biggest cost is labour cost be a little beauty when its finished
My parents think I’m crazy when I saw I want to work on my car. I think just like you do- I want to take it apart, I want to understand how it works. I love the videos, keep up the good work.
This car is gorgeous I dont know why people are saying its ugly. I would love a car that looks like that. Hatchbacks are probably one of my favorite styles of car.
Ignore negative comments on the looks of the Car, I’ve wanted one of these since I was 14 years old (early 1970’s) and they were still on the road and a really cool car. Very much looking forward to you doing the car up.
I think you should film bicycles and cars too. Its a retro restoration too. I think most of us people who like restoring old tech also like bikes ans cars too. I did a few bikes myself.
Just bought a 1979 scimitar gte to restore its getting dropped off today only seen pictures .. looking forward to seeing her in the flesh..this video gives me confidence to take on a resto Wish me luck.
This is a gorgeous looking car; ignore the negative-nancies that don’t recognise a class design, and just want to be pricks! I lived through the 70’s and remember seeing these cars around, looking cool...so I’m looking forward to seeing what magic you can do to restore this magnificent beast to her former glory! 🙂 👍
It reminds me of my cousin's old AMC Javelin that he had in the '70's when I was a kid. Good luck. Ian (Hubnut) Might be a good resource, as he seems to know Reliants pretty well.
Right? Anyone who would say this car is ugly has no sense of style or design. Those bellands can go buy a featureless modern car so they can enjoy the lack of individuality.
I buy cars I like, what anyone else thinks is irrelevant. They are probably just jealous that you own it and they don't. Scimitar was ahead of its time and still looks good today. Its great that you are going to restore the old girl to her former glory. Please don't over restore, original is always best. Good luck.
I wish you luck, I hope you take your time, enjoy yourself and rememberrelease hearts organised in lovely Ziploc bags photographed as remove vehicle and stored in lots of different storage tubs that are labelled and catalogued on a computer at the end of the day .
You should drive the car to the scrap yard.....then bring it right back....be a nice drive before you start the restoration ;) Really looking fwd to seeing how you get on
So excited for this! Partially because i really really like old cars, and partially because i might do a similar restoration on an Innocenti Koral cabrio, the italian-made Zastava Yugo
This is just great Eliot... Love restaurations... Take a look at Ronald Finger fiero restauration at UA-cam. This should give you an idea of what is about to come... Good luck looking forward to watch it.
Elliot, I'd like to start by saying that I'm truly looking forward to this series. Secondly, I have had old (and cheap) cars my whole life. While this may seem like a daunting task, the level of care and attention to detail you put into your projects will surely lend to your success with the car. It looks like it will be a fantastic car when you're done with it.
This will become a hell of a classic display car man, hope to watch a lot of it, you may have a money maker on your hands but after so much work i would have some second thoughts to sell, like no money can pay the sentimental value
Looking forward to the series! I think it's a interesting car, "shooting brake" body styles don't always work. It's different and has character. Good luck with the build!
Hey dude, you don't need to convince me if you should do it or not. Your car and your money. If you want to, and you enjoy it, then I'll enjoy watching you do it. Same as always
You should make a Google doc for any parts you may end up needing, better to have many eyes looking for the parts than just yours. Just an idea to help get the series moving for ya. Massively excited for the build log
I think the car looks very sporty. In one video you mentioned how much the license plates are worth. I would be worried of them being stolen. Also I do enjoy the random things that are on this channel.
I honestly cant wait to see this build 🤔 I bought an '85 Thunderbird to restore but sadly because of world events and finances, i had to put it on hold, car runs perfectly fine and all but just had to put it all on hold
That's a lovely car and the color is fantastic--I'm looking forward to seeing it restored!

Thank you!
It's cool to hear British cars getting some loving in Germany. 👍
By the way, Jersey's number plates are very different from the UK mainland.
That car is not ugly, just different
You are right, it's a lovely car. It has proper character. Love classic cars.
Just think of it as leveling up! Leaning a new ability! You got this!
Beautiful car and lovely little Cub too. Look forward to your progress!
So glad you decided to keep and restore, living in the u.s I dont see really any reliant vehicles. Its a beautiful car and deserves love !
Love your collection of retro transport. Nice taste 👍 I’m sure the car will br a beauty. A true man of retro things. Looking forward to this build!
That's a project of epic proportions, but it's going to be well worth it to get that beauty ship shape (well, car shape, but that's not a saying).
Looking forward to following the restoration. Lovely car.
Always nice to see a classic get given a new lease on life.
Reminds me of Esotericseans rebuild on his 66 vw split window bus. Love this kind of videos. Cars are my other hobby outside of handhelds
looking forward to the Scimitar updates, should be fun !
Glad you are doing I tryed for years to get one my self but in any restoration work if your not doing your self the biggest cost is labour cost be a little beauty when its finished

I am super hype for this, what a slick looking hatchback. Colour is absolutely phenomenal too
This is a gorgeous looking car; ignore the negative-nancies that don’t recognise a class design, and just want to be pricks!

It is a beautiful car! Good luck! I will stay tuned...
My parents kindly bought me a silver/grey Peugeot HLE Premiere racing bike identical to that in 1991.
I still have it!
Looking forward to watching the series... Especially after mines gone !
That is a gorgeous car. I love how it looks kind of like a Ford Escort
Cant wait to see more videos of this, also one of all your bikes.
It's definitely a nice looking car. It's the perfect project to take "The Retro Future" to the next level!
would love a series of restoration videos!!!
Good luck dude, very ambitious what you are thinking of doing.
Can't wait for restoration! This is something I want to do on my car in the future, too.
Looking forward to the journey. It doesn’t matter what people think of the car as long as you like it, that’s all that matters.
It reminds me of my cousin's old AMC Javelin that he had in the '70's when I was a kid. Good luck. Ian (Hubnut) Might be a good resource, as he seems to know Reliants pretty well.
Can’t wait to see it! It’ll be a great repair project!
It would be great to see you restore/repair like you do with all the tech. It would be entertaining to watch I believe.
Cool! Hey, it's just a big Gameboy!
Lovely car man, great colour too.
Will be watching the series - you're in for a long ride and a lot of learning!
Car Throttle needs to feature you and this car.
Look forward to the new series of videos. I think the car looks great and will be fun to see it restored to mint
It's a good looking car. Good luck with the restoration!
who needs a Porsche when u can have this
Yep you can just swap in an engine from a Porsche
Porsche is still cool. An old porsche here in the US can go for quite cheap

This is not an ugly car! I think it looks fantastic.
Always love a good classic car
who in their right mind would say that this car is ugly
That’s well said and i agree
Right? Anyone who would say this car is ugly has no sense of style or design. Those bellands can go buy a featureless modern car so they can enjoy the lack of individuality.
This is going to be fun to watch!
Glad you are doing this .. it’s a great looking car
Keep it up .. it’s your passion that attracts people to your channel
Those bicycles look 👌
Hell yeah! I didn't know you had a Super Cub...
I love that car. Cool colour!:)
Nice car, I really like that colour.
What an experience, congrats 👌🏽
Good on you for doing a classic car restoration! It's great to see someone with enthusiasm and positive view on retro classics! Keep going Elliot !
I buy cars I like, what anyone else thinks is irrelevant. They are probably just jealous that you own it and they don't.

Amazing! Really looking forward to this! Great that you'll see this through - my utmost respect for this! Cheers!

The car looks so cool and the color dang 😍
These cars are simple to restore mechanically. A good Scimitar is a superb car to drive.
This channel is more of a channel about you and not The Retro Future. You do what you find interesting. If people do not like the content then oh well
The scimitar is a beautiful bathtub. Dont let anyone tell you different.
Incredibly excited for this! I think they're gorgeous cars, definitely a fan of the shape!
Dude Elliot, you keep breaking the boundaries on the awesomeness of your projects. Phenomenal stuff! Keep it up!
Good luck man can't wait to see it

The Princess Anne thing alone makes this car cool in my eyes
Yes, really excited for this!
Can't wait to see this develop in to what you want it to look and drive like, its your canvas do what you feel is right and enjoy it. Great car.
I'm looking forward to seeing you do this, as it's a car I would personally buy and drive....
This channel is going to blow up mate.
This will become a hell of a classic display car man, hope to watch a lot of it, you may have a money maker on your hands but after so much work i would have some second thoughts to sell, like no money can pay the sentimental value

Glad to see this will be a series, and ecstatic that we will be along for the ride!
How exciting, I cant wait to see how this turns out. Best of luck to you with this restoration Elliot.

Then you haven’t seen many cars.

I bought an '85 Thunderbird to restore but sadly because of world events and finances, i had to put it on hold, car runs perfectly fine and all but just had to put it all on hold
those seats look almost perfect, you don't need to get them reupholstered! they're much better than mine are anyway
That car looks amazing
