I love how Isaac tries to please Greed, like he's clinging into the one person that isn't trying to kill him, even if that person doesn't care about anything but his money.
This song also has me thinking, "What the hell is he even gonna spend that money on? It's not like there's any shops beside his own." But then I realised "Oh yeah, he's literally Greed itself." Greedy people will always try to get as much money as they can, even when realistically most of it will never even be spent on anything. Only makes Isaac's world feel even more depressing.
honestly sounds alot sadder when you think of it like if your stuck in your mom basement crawling with unholy creatures to only stumble across a shop to have a greedy person inside who wont listen to you and expects you to hand over your money for some good upgrades
here's an interesting parallel between Greed and Isaac, with greed being an ancient, dead version of Isaac, the instrument you synced his voice to is a regular piano, while Isaac himself has his voice synced to a toy piano. just a neat detail.
If you've paid attention, you may or may not have noticed that even the lyrics are showing the character of both Isaac and Greed. Isaac, being a very young child, uses a simple font, no capital letters at all and hardly uses punctuation marks. Whereas Greed, who displays himself as a tradesman, uses a font which makes him seem more sophisticated, yet slightly intimidating, uses capital letters where needed and uses punctuation marks. I am so glad this channel exists. They put so much love and effort into their work. Even with the YT algorithm and all its flaws. Keep up the good work!
This... is fantastic. The theme of Greed fits with the dark undertone of the beat of this song. Even as someone who hasn't played Binding of Isaac since it was a flash game, I get so much nostalgia and chills from this.
Darby really does a great job of making Greed's voice feel inviting but foreboding at the same time. Like "Sure, I can help. But it'll cost you, and by the way, I really don't care if you die as long as I get paid." He's like a light in this dark cruel world where you can get help and don't have to worry about fighting for your life, but doesn't that make him morally good. He charges you for your own survival, and Isaac has already been through a living hell. Plus, making deals with greed itself reinforces the idea Isaac is considered a sinner. Feeds nicely into the whole deadly sin idea. Besides what the hell is he even gonna spend them on? It's not like there's any shops beside his own. Only makes you realise he really is just greedy, wanting all the money he can get, even if he can't use it anywhere. Ann also does a great job of portraying Isaac's innocence and hopelessness. He just follows along with what he's told no matter what because he literally has no choice if he wants to live.
I dont think all the sins have their own ost, if they did. I can see MOTI doing a whole series on them, and a collab with all 7 sins at the end. This is not uncluding ultra greed as he isnt a miniboss.

@@ProfessorMor It is pretty annoying, isn't it? Eventually on a file I started as a sort of precursor to Repentance before it comes out in a couple of months, I got sick of the constant jams and installed a mod that prevents them from happening. I wish they functioned a little more like the Greed machine. Granted, that one jams too but its jamming chance is determined by however many coins you've already donated as whichever character you happen to be playing as. The normal shop machines have no such rule and just jam at complete random. Heck, even making it so the later machines aren't also jammed would be an improvement.
Greed, in Hell waiting to respawn: I don't know whether I should be proud of you for that much greed, or angry that you bombed me. Eh, how about both? *mouth rips into unnaturally big smile and muffled screams of anger can be heard* Probably how he feels everytime we bomb him lmao
Has anyone else noticed how much the binding of Isaac seems to focus on greed so much more than the other sins. Even pride, which is supposed to be the deadliest sin of them all, is focused on less than greed. Always found it odd. Edit: I already figured it out on my own a long time ago. Like atleast a few days after posting this. Go to the replies before replying yourself so that its not repetitive. If you want an explanation, there are plenty down there. No ones gotten particularly repetitive yet, but there are only so many possible explanations, and I'd rather stop it from getting to that point before it does.
I’m pretty sure that’s because of the very nature of rogue-likes. You’re always striving to get more items and upgrades to make your run easier to win. A constant hunger for more power sounds pretty greedy to me.
@@azathoththeprimalchaos2289 in terms of the greater story, it actually does have a reason. Edmund said that out of all sins, Isaac suffers from Greed the most.
just for fun, here's what greed's selling in the shops at 0:00 & 1:45 , going left to right, top to bottom -Rib of Greed (5 pennies) : Trinket, Prevents Greed and Super Greed from spawning as bosses, increases coin drops -Key (5 pennies): Unlocks various locks throughout the basement. Never hurts to have a few. -Bat Wing (5 pennies): Trinket, When you kill an enemy, there's a small chance you'll gain flight for the rest of the room -Plan C (15 Pennies): Single use Active Item, will kill all enemies in a room on use... then kills you 15 seconds later. Only use in emergencies. -Sack of Sacks (15 Pennies): Passive Item, has a chance of dropping sacks full of items whenever you clear a room. -Just a small keeper. Not an actual item, probably just providing the extra vocals when greed sings over themselves. -D1 (15 pennies): Active Item, randomly duplicates a pickup item in the room you're in. -Black Feather (5 Pennies): Trinket, gives +0.2 damage for each "sinful" item you have -Counterfeit Penny (5 Pennies): Trinket, has a chance to double pennies when they're collected -Zodiac (15 Pennies): Passive, Upon starting a floor, gain one of the effects of the zodiac items, chosen at random. -Holy Mantle (15 Pennies): Passive, Blocks the first instance of damage you would have taken in a room. Refreshes upon entering a new room. [NOTE: it could also be the relic, but the lighter color/marks on the cross make me think it's holy mantle... but just to have all bases covered: -The Relic (15 Pennies): Passive, spawns a familiar that creates a soul heart every four rooms] -Lil Chest (15 Pennies): Passive, spawns a chest familiar that drops a pickup every few rooms -Swallowed Penny (5 Pennies): Trinket, spawns pennies whenever you take damage. -Crow Heart (5 Pennies): Trinket, If you have soul/black hearts along with normal hearts, damage will be first applied to normal hearts (as opposed to normal, where soul/black hearts take priority)
If you think about it, killing the deadly sins only makes you one with them, since they drop items that make you more like them. Wrath drops bomb items, lust drops the virus, greed drops money related items, etc.
Darby's superhuman vocal range does it again! As usual, I didn't even recognize him until reading the credits. That's a sign of a great voice actor/impressionist.
i love the artwork in this video. the first one has Greed very welcoming with items in the backround and the second has him with pennies in his eyes with a foreboding posture and isaac almost cowering infront of him
not pictured: Isaac bombing the greed shopkeeps in hopes of getting 2 extra pennies/ a better chance of making a deal with the devil. ...I'm not even joking
One thing I sortof dislike about Greed is the pop culture interpretation of it. Greed is, by definition, the perversion of ambition. It is the willingness to sacrifice the things that should never be sacrificed for further progress towards an objective. Greed is the shortsighted desire to obtain that progress as immediately as possible, or progress even past worthlessness. It is like if you bought a shovel to dig a hole, dug until the shovel's handle broke, and threw away the shovel head even though the head is fine and the handle is easily replaceable. Or, you just keep digging far past the point of the hole being useful. People even fall in and die from the fall, but you keep on digging. There is no reason other than having the deepest hole, and the increasing costs and effort are creating an exponential strain on yourself and the people who have to deal with the hole and excess dirt, but you still keep digging. It is irrational by nature, and the most prevalent sin. Think of the corporate billionaire that will bribe politicians to make a law that makes them 10% more money. They already have a ton of money that they can barely use, so why have more? Greed in Isaac, meanwhile, is what Isaac considers to be his primary Sin, hence why it isn't as hostile. The very game even needs the player to get greedy every now and again to push forward.
There's something unnerving about how the song just immediately starts. Usually there's some kind of intro with MOTI songs but here you're thrown right into it with no buildup. Might be intentional, because greed is always impatient. Greed always wants what it wants now, now, NOW, without pause
1:32 “All their mistakes will just keep growing til you can’t see the light of day” is easily my favourite line. It sounds so hopeless and bleak, it really encapsulates the feeling that this song is going for.
Who agrees that Darby just became one of the scariest singers? Also, here's the lyrics: Verse 1: Welcome, to my shop, Come take a stop, While on this run, Come look around, As you travel deeper through this basement underground... Verse 2: See, something you want? (yes I want that item) Well, let's see, (see I've got these pennies) You're a few short, (and I was really hoping) Go get more pennies, (you could cut me a deal, Greed...) Greed, is what I am, 'Cause no one can, Hide from their sins, There's no escape... Even if you try to run away you still must pay... Verse 3: Welcome, to my store, Here on this floor, Come on now kid, Heaven forbid... You can't pass up these great items to help you explore... Verse 4: Go... (guess, I'll fight another...) On kid... (don't know why I bother...) Just, kill... (they never drop what I need...) A, few, more... (but I'll keep on trying, Greed.) Greed, is what I am, 'Cause no one can, Hide from their sins, All their mistakes. We'll just keep growing 'till you can't see the light of day... Verse 5: Now, in my bazaar... You've made it far, To get so deep, What a relief... While you're here won't you donate all your pennies to me...? Verse 6: Right, in the slot, (but I want that item...) Just, put them in, (I mean if you're really sure...) It, gives upgrades, (I mean, a few coins won't hurt...) Then, you can spend more, (I hope I can trust you, Greed...) Greed, is what I am, 'Cause no one can, Hide from their sins, Can't hide from me... Even those who claim to be pure fall to their own greed... Final Verse: In this market here, One thing is clear, I am the king, All bow to Greed... Everybody wants a piece of the pie which is me...
I read this and proceeded to instantly look that up, because I thought it was a reference but nope you apparently came up with it yourself Mind if I use that in a story?

I am looking forward for your take on Repentance soundtracks, like River of Despair, Fissures or Genesis II👀
*Yes.* this is just a YES, I loved this theme when I played the original, kind of miss it in Rebirth but its still holds up. Also two things, 1. This is made so well since it sounds like someone taking advantage of a child who doesn't know better (which is exactly what's happening), and 2. I'd love to hear more of these classic Isaac songs with lyrics (and waiting for this to have a 1 hour version)
I never found Greed scary, but HO boy has this song changed that. I also like how nostalgia clocks me in the back of my head and takes whatever I was gonna do and just says, "Enjoy this for 30 minutes." And I always obey-
Greed: "Even if you try to run away you still must pay" Mr. Me, Double Steam Sale, Diplopia, Crooked Penny, Store Credit, and Credit Card: "are we a joke to you?"
2:28 Best part about this scene? It shows that not just money paves the road to greed. Hoarding anything, even if relatively invaluable, or spending frivolously in hopes of wealth in one form or another; that’s greed.
Holy shit i read it as "3 years ago" and was wondering 1) how it's so good 2) why I didn't see this before 3) why it has so little views 4) why it got recommended to me today And then realized that no, this happened last week.
Dang, everybody needs to like this so we can maybe hear a cover of Beatboxing Satan Land or Giant White Goo Skull. Also, I love how the visuals match the lyrics, when he's talking about how nobody can escape their sins we see Lust and Sloth, and on "will just keep on growing" it shifts to Super Sloth.
I love how Isaac tries to please Greed, like he's clinging into the one person that isn't trying to kill him, even if that person doesn't care about anything but his money.

Yeah and It makes your want to see more osaac songs from them lol
just for fun, here's what greed's selling in the shops at 0:00 & 1:45 , going left to right, top to bottom
-Rib of Greed (5 pennies) : Trinket, Prevents Greed and Super Greed from spawning as bosses, increases coin drops
-Key (5 pennies): Unlocks various locks throughout the basement. Never hurts to have a few.
-Bat Wing (5 pennies): Trinket, When you kill an enemy, there's a small chance you'll gain flight for the rest of the room
-Plan C (15 Pennies): Single use Active Item, will kill all enemies in a room on use... then kills you 15 seconds later.
-Black Feather (5 Pennies): Trinket, gives +0.2 damage for each "sinful" item you have
-Counterfeit Penny (5 Pennies): Trinket, has a chance to double pennies when they're collected
-Zodiac (15 Pennies): Passive, Upon starting a floor, gain one of the effects of the zodiac items, chosen at random.
-Holy Mantle (15 Pennies): Passive, Blocks the first instance of damage you would have taken in a room. Refreshes upon entering a new room.
[NOTE: it could also be the relic, but the lighter color/marks on the cross make me think it's holy mantle... but just to have all bases covered:
-The Relic (15 Pennies): Passive, spawns a familiar that creates a soul heart every four rooms]
-Lil Chest (15 Pennies): Passive, spawns a chest familiar that drops a pickup every few rooms
-Swallowed Penny (5 Pennies): Trinket, spawns pennies whenever you take damage.
-Crow Heart (5 Pennies): Trinket, If you have soul/black hearts along with normal hearts, damage will be first applied to normal hearts (as opposed to normal, where soul/black hearts take priority)
Now I want a Small Keeper familiar

I would like to say your wrong, but I DID do that during my recordings to get footage for the video XD
@@ProfessorMor oh howdy
Well technically, in the second verse, Isaac doused the flames next to Greed to get 2 extra pennies, so that could count.
And then you get 2 spiders.
But then you accidentally find the secret room!
"HES A SPECIAL ONE! I DONATED 210 COINS TO THE GREED DONATION MACHINE, I AINT WASTIN IT!"
I like that all of Greed's duets with Isaac end with him asking for more ("Go get more pennies", "Just kill a few more", "Then you can spend more").
There's something unnerving about how the song just immediately starts. Usually there's some kind of intro with MOTI songs but here you're thrown right into it with no buildup. Might be intentional, because greed is always impatient. Greed always wants what it wants now, now, NOW, without pause
Yeah true
Darby is the only guy eho has a bass so deep you can shit yourself but also can play the shrill screamy guy.
Corpsehusband but thats due to his medical issues.
I have thousands of hours in this game and hearing lyrics to a song i've heard so much is truly astounding and I love this, keep up the good work man.

1:32 “All their mistakes will just keep growing til you can’t see the light of day” is easily my favourite line. It sounds so hopeless and bleak, it really encapsulates the feeling that this song is going for.

Also, here's the lyrics:
Verse 1:
Welcome, to my shop,
Come take a stop,
While on this run,
Come look around,
As you travel deeper through this basement underground...
Verse 2:
See, something you want?
(yes I want that item)
Well, let's see,
(see I've got these pennies)
You're a few short,
(and I was really hoping)
Go get more pennies,
(you could cut me a deal, Greed...)
Greed, is what I am,
'Cause no one can,
Hide from their sins,
There's no escape...
Even if you try to run away you still must pay...
Verse 3:
Welcome, to my store,
Here on this floor,
Come on now kid,
Heaven forbid...
You can't pass up these great items to help you explore...
Verse 4:
Go...
(guess, I'll fight another...)
On kid...
(don't know why I bother...)
Just, kill...
(they never drop what I need...)
A, few, more...
(but I'll keep on trying, Greed.)
Greed, is what I am,
'Cause no one can,
Hide from their sins,
All their mistakes.
We'll just keep growing 'till you can't see the light of day...
Verse 5:
Now, in my bazaar...
You've made it far,
To get so deep,
What a relief...
While you're here won't you donate all your pennies to me...?
Verse 6:
Right, in the slot,
(but I want that item...)
Just, put them in,
(I mean if you're really sure...)
It, gives upgrades,
(I mean, a few coins won't hurt...)
Then, you can spend more,
(I hope I can trust you, Greed...)
Greed, is what I am,
'Cause no one can,
Hide from their sins,
Can't hide from me...
Even those who claim to be pure fall to their own greed...

In this market here,
One thing is clear,
I am the king,
All bow to Greed...

*Yes.* this is just a YES, I loved this theme when I played the original, kind of miss it in Rebirth but its still holds up. Also two things, 1. 2:28 Best part about this scene? It shows that not just money paves the road to greed. Hoarding anything, even if relatively invaluable, or spending frivolously in hopes of wealth in one form or another; that’s greed.
That’s kind of a main theme of the game, I think it’s neat
Both voices are so well done that I can't even say which one I like most
I like the idea of making Greed the most prominent and powerful sin, as most sins can have their origin traced back to Greed.
My mind is now just placing this with those shops in the mystery dungeons games
