      that's not true at all man. what you're basically saying is you can only listen to something once - good or bad. you could not be in the right head space when listening to something for first time, could be expecting something else and have that affect your initial listen. could read an interview and read an artist say, yeah i'm trying to get back to my roots so like in this case, that would mean 'yeah I'm trying to get back to that entroducing shit.." so you're expecting that and this clearly isn't that album at all. he coulda just been saying, process wise I was trying to get back to my roots. not saying he said that, but that's just an example of what artists will sometimes say. cats are too quick to call something great or wack after one listen. give shit time to breathe, live with something for a while before saying it's the best shit since sliced bread or dumping it in the trash bin. your first impression when it comes to music, usually isn't your final thoughts about an album. if your first impression is this is great... chances are a month later, you're saying this album is FUCKING AWESOME. if your first impression is eh, I'm not sure I like this... you could put it away and go back six months later and say YOO! I'm really feeling this, if you just went off that first listen... you might not ever realize you really do enjoy an album.

      +paul maxwell bro there is science that says you don't enjoy music as much as when you are a kid. But I agree if you don't it at first chances are it's not for you. But I have heard stuff I initially didn't like from artists but coming back to it in a different mood it's better

      well, having listened to all of his albums as they came out, i actually find this album to be fantastic. his sound may just have evolved in a direction you don't appreciate, whereas my tastes grew in the same direction as his.

    BERGSCHRUND= a classic piece of electronic music. Though simple and common sounding, it's really memorable

    • @italyavenue
      @italyavenue 6 років тому +1

      You literally found it remarkable (because you took the time to remark on it) but you also called it common. Is it remarkably common? lol. No worries. I know what you were trying to say. That is the magic of art. When I write my stuff I begin by selecting 1 high, 1 mid, and 1 low- that is it.. Vocals and percussion are added later but even that is kept to a minimum so the entire track - even if you can pick out 20 different sounds or "samples" in it - consists of just those 3 original sounds. The measure of a master (when it comes to anything) is literally the measure of what they are capable of producing or creating in relation to what they have to work with. Here is a classic example of one of those masterpieces in electronic music. (Mission Control: Outta Limits)

      2023 is literally using Shadows genius to move hop urban and rap to the next level. Shadows art is not for the one's who lack foresight or natural ability to understand forward culture. I feel sad for those folks. Don't worry you will get it one day. Keep trying you can do it.

    It's like a trip-hop journey through the fevered dreams of Quentin Tarantino. I love it on first listen. Moody, atmospheric, good beats. It turned me right around on a bad night. This is the Shadow I've been waiting for for twenty years. Got to admit, though: that title track is just a shameless shout-out to some wing-suit crazy person to turn it into a video. I like the track, but it's remarkably safe.

    If your not taken on a journey with this, I'm not sure what to tell you. I understand comparisons past to present. Its hard not to. I get it. This album is so packed with atmosphere, progression, street beats, and vision however, that I fail to see how anyone remotely musically inclined would not give this album a chance or some credit for originality. Sir DJ Shadow is not a one-trick pony. He is an artist that can convey emotional gravity into electronic music.

    Love it, a sleeper classic for sure (give it a decade for the usual posers to catch-on to the sound of now) - not reinventing the wheel exactly, but definitely stands-out from the crowd. Taut, understated, hard-bangin' electro/hip hop.
    Beautifully mixed too - best workout my car subs have had in way too long.

    Listening for the first time, I hear a relative barrage of noisier-than-usual samples for a DJShadow album, but what strikes me is his typically unpredictable approach. You never know what's coming next with this guy! Preemptive Strike and Endtroducing are desert island discs for me, because I love the moodier, more downtempo side of Shadow, so for me, the highlights on this album are Ashes to Oceans, California and Suicide Pact.

    Hey, here's a question for all you "critics" - when did music and freedom of expression become something that is supposed to conform to something you enjoyed 20 years ago ? At what point did these people become accountable to your tastes and dislikes ? As far as I can tell, you want to be the "real" ones, and as far as I can hear, this record is really not far removed from Entroducing, it's in fact far closer to it than most of his albums. The fact that you enjoy a certain atmos and a certain style in beats and cuts does simply not make you an authority in music. We are entitled to our opinions and should be grateful that this guy is still making music at all, he really doesn't have to do that, and he's not doing it for you. So shut your trap, you belittle us all with this nonsense, goes for both sides of the argument. Get some turntables and show us how it's supposed to be done then, I'm sure we'll enjoy it while the "others" will hate on it for ripping Shadow's grooves. Peace.

    This album is impressive. It's one of DJ Shadow's best, no doubt. The only track that I skip every single time that I play the album is "Nobody Speak". It's like a song you could hear in the soundtrack of a Hollywood movie starring The Rock or Kevin Heart. You know, like that tunes The Black Keys make for ads. It just doesn' t fit with the incredible level of emotional nuance of the rest of the tracks. It feels... silly, shallow and "fun".

    Really liking this, I wasn't expecting it to sound much like ...entroducing at all yet it has a lot of the quirks and trademarks that I expect from DJ Shadow, I like the subtlety and modern feel. Much like ...entroducing this is very atmospheric but in a different way, almost similar to early garage/dubstep acts like Burial.
