Agree. Just viewed 4th place showcase...and I don't think so. This couple deserved a higher place. I suspect they might be newer to these competitions so the more known dancers get an advantage.
Shockwave 11 yes, it does seem that the judging is not entirely on how each couple performed on that day but on who is who... I mean Jordan & Tatiana were great but there were some routines & performances that I thought were better over the past decade but nobody was going to be allowed to unseat the champions. This 7th place couple won the rising star last year... I really want to see the other routines 2-6 ,,, if the quality of dance is all better than West Coast Swing indeed has made a big improvement but for now I am skeptical . I am not impressed by sloppy dancing, tacky costumes, poor fitness & repetitive choreography. At least the judges recognize that Benji is still killing it with skills, innovative & creative choreography & originality.
OMG. You hit it on the nail. I saw their Rising Star performance and commented on the amazing performance and their fitness. You can see Alpha works out and is strong, enhancing the visual component of the moves. It's been awhile since I've been in the dance scene. Tatiana and Jordan, I remember them when they were teenagers at a studio dance. So yeah, I do believe, a lot of this is who they are vs performance. They really should require BMI requirements to compete or some fitness marker (compete all day or something, to force them to be fit, like ballroom competitions). Question, is Patty Vo, Alpha's sister (another fit lady). And yes Benji's performance, was stellar.
CHECK OUT THE SHOWCASE routine by Patty & Jesse, I dont know the result but having seen 4th place ,,, they must be 2 or 3 . Really good lifts, professional looking presentation. I don't love Phantom as a Swing but it is way more memorable & powerful than this song Alpha & Jen chose. Im imagining this routine to a different song & its better.
I just watched 4th place too, I actuallyreally enjoy the musicality of the choreography but I wish she would have worn something more attractive & added performance makeup. I'm really trying to focus on the dancing but the long tunic, polyester green pants & UGLY black shoes keep getting in my eyes. There is nothing wrong with looking sexy & feminine. I hope WCS ladies don't stay on this trend of big pants & nurses shoes. I don't care if it feels comfy. I like seeing the technique of dancers feet ,,, latin, contemporary, ballet, cabaret, ALL show beautiful foot lines... You can tell a dancer even in a photograph.
