  • Experience the magic of Bah Kerios Wahlang, a folk music master from Meghalaya. His folk songs give a voice to the sacred forest of Mawphlang. If trees could sing this is how they would sound.
The Music by Bah Kerios Wahlang
    The music that I love
    The music that I love
The music that sends me deep in thought
It calls to me, It leads me
    It's as old as time
And it will last beyond the 4 seasons
It springs from the depths of the Earth
It flows from the heart of the Duitara (traditional guitar)
You can hear it's echo in nature
Feel it soar from within the Duitara
    It seeps into the veins
    It moves into the soul
    Gently, very gently
    it will spreads it's wings
    and come to rest,
on the water, the land and the wind.
    From these 4 simple strings
    made of delicate silk,
    it plays in my head.
    It sings in my heart
    It makes me yearn.
Just like the flow of water
    an endless circle.
    Night or day,
    it moves on its own.
    The music that I love
    The music that I love

I could only find this beautiful song because of my school. His voice is so pleasant. love the aesthetic of this video. It is such a relaxing song. I wish there could be more songs like this. I'm not from Meghalaya so I couldn't understand but whatever he singing must be amazing. This person proved that age is just a number. You can even sing if you are in your late 50's or 70's.Respect to the videography, music, nature the beautiful scenery. this song should get more than 3mil views

I've been to Meghalaya. Its a beautiful place. But unfortunately, the recent construction of highways and over bridges from Guwahati to Shillong via Nongphoh demands cutting down of forests and mountains. Its ravaging everything over there. A local lady named Eliza said that the people there are not liking it at all. They've been living a beautiful life with their forests but now the lake is drying up, the rains are less than it was ever before and the temperature is rising up to levels that had never been felt in barapani.
God knows why is man destroying every thing in the name of development? What has development given after all? Complexity, stress, depression, hatred, separation, and loss of nature.
Even in sohra, the coal mines, the stone grinding industries are destroying everything. Hmmmm.....

India is going through an industrial revolution. There's no hope of stopping it, the environment will be devastated and many things will be destroyed and lost forever in the name of modernisation. The only consolation is that over the long term nature is very resilient and with luck, things will be improved within 100-150 years or so after India's birth right stabilises and it becomes sufficiently wealthy to benefit from ecofriendly technology. The priority now is recording things which will be lost and trying to preserve things so they can be reintroduced at a later date.

Thank you for recording and documenting this. For a country with such rich and diverse folk traditions, it is very difficult to find good renditions and recordings of folk songs. Either you find very over-commercialised and low quality stuff, or just few dominant songs repeated over and over again.

Most of the folk music of India is dance-oriented. This means that the songs that are sung are usually accompanied by some dance form, typical to the region in which it is being performed. There is no definite system of education that is imparted in the genre of folk music. It is a style that is picked up and followed and thus the tradition of folk music has mainly been aural. 'Desi folk', as it has been termed, is viewed as a classical art form where in the midst of dance, mime, lasya and natya the symbolic attributes of traditional Indian culture finds a definite diction.
