I was there in 1975 and was really pissed off because they arranged for me to go home for Christmas! There was a trip arranged to go over to another Island so I wanted to stay but they were cutting down ready to close the base in 1976. Christmas also meant that most sections made their own bars so it would’ve been great fun. I’d have done another tour in a heartbeat. Years later I met a guy named Tony Rutter in Saudi who had done 3 tours on Gan, he was an ex Chief Tech and was the guy that locked up the SASF building when the RAF pulled out. He still had the door keys and gave them to me saying that I’d have to buy him a beer if we ever met up in the future and I didn’t have them! Don’t think I could go back now, it would crack me up.......they pulled down the Marine Bar......bastards.

Gave us lads on Gan a good laught tho ! i was there just weeks after they made this film, made us all watch it in the cinema. Couldn't hear anything due to the jeers and whistles.

Brought back some memories, but the bit about an airman asking to be confined was utter rubbish!
