    I did mine a few months ago in Hua Hin. I had an Australian license and an international license. Went to the lands office and had forgotten that I had an expired Thai license from 6 years ago. Needed to do the eye/reflex test, 5 1/2 hours of instructional video, online test (49/50) and then a riding test in the pouring rain. Cost B140 and good for two years. I won't let my next one expire so that I can get a 5 year one! I should add that many Thais I know around HH, who I asked for advice, didn't actually hold a motorcycle license - this may have an impact on the amount of accidents across Thailand.

    I was a driving instructor in London for over 20 years. When I was with my Thai girlfriend in Khon Kaen I taught her to drive properly, just as I would anyone, but at the test centre all they asked her to do was park near a kerb and reverse along a line for just a few metres. She passed of course.

      Yes, that’s exactly what I did.

      @@LePubPattaya And this was all done in a large car park. She never even had to drive on the road. This is one reason why you can't exchange a Thai driving licence to a UK licence without taking and passing the full UK test.

    Hi Phil, Great Vlog for guys looking to get a Thai Driving Bike or Car Licence, I got mine many years ago in Hua Hin I was lucky I had my Australian and International licence with me. They interesting thing was there was only one mature Thai lady who could speak and read ( Kinda ) English because I managed to get both Bike & Car without any formal testing. I just the eye test and reaction test which was kind of funny. I had to renew my 5 year Thai Licenses last year here in Pattaya/Chon Buri and had to do a online test again even thought my Licenses had not expired the Test was in Thai all done. As for driving here you need to keep your withs about you all the time I find the road surface and pot holes,cracks,Soi dogs and other motorcycles drivers the most dangerous and of course stupid Farang non experience Not wearing helmet ones the worst. Hopefully I get to talk to you in person soon I am still in Pattaya/Jomtien
    Keep up the great work Cheers Irish Paul

    Having driven in Saudi Arabia and seen really bad driving there, I've always found the Thai car driving standard pretty good (except roundabouts) - it's the motorbikes that are the crazies!! 😵😵‍💫

    Both my international and home country licenses expired so I went to the Driver's license department(?) in Bangkok (NOT a driving school) for the test, years ago. The actual driving part was easy BUT the computer exam (choice of 4 for each question) was insanely difficult, primarily because a lot of the English questions did NOT make any sense, you really had to guess what the questions actually meant. This was even after having practiced a lot with past exams found online. There was also the really annoying hassle of having to go to the department 4 times to finally apply for the darn test because each time I was never informed the CORRECT FULL requirements. It took nearly a month in total. If you can actually get a license at a Driving School in ONLY two full days, it is definitely much more easier and stress-free. Also rumors on getting one via Visa agents, legit?

    • @LePubPattaya
      @LePubPattaya  8 місяців тому +1

      This is so true. Everything you say. The computer test is difficult. I wouldn’t trust an agent to take it for you. I must have had to scan my finger about 50 times in two days.

    Could not agree more. I did the complete procedure for motorbike license in 2017 here in upcountry.
    After that I knew why driving here is so crazy and dangerous.
    People without any proper education and training just let off to the road.
    The theory test fails to address basic common sense and behavior, thoughtfulness, safety.
    Just swatting signs, distances, parking rules etc.
    They don't learn anything about basic technical function of the vehicles.
    Going downhill in highest gear.
    Many switch on the lights only after the roadside becomes invisible.
    Driving overland in the night is frightening like a ghost train.
    The list is endless.

    • @LePubPattaya
      @LePubPattaya  8 місяців тому

      The theory test is even easier when they tell you the answers!

    Very interesting Thanks Mr. Egg. Thanks.
    IMO there needs to be more traffic cameras and police actually issuing tickets. For all the traffic violations I have seen in one day in Pattaya. They could make so much money issuing Fines $$$$ That they could actually fix all the sidewalks and have a few million Baht to spare.! Going the wrong way on a one-way/ Parking on the sidewalk/ speeding/ NOT giving pedestrians the right of way/ Reckless driving
    Driving under the influence
    Following too closely
    Improper passing
    Stunt driving
    Texting while driving
    ALL = $$$$$$$

    • @tonymatthews2344
      @tonymatthews2344 8 місяців тому

      all well and good if they started stopping the right people for the right reasons, the problem (as we all know) is the police stop people based on their ability to pay (either on the spot or officially) and the crazy allowance of people over the drink/drive limit being allowed to carry on until they have accumulated enough points to ban them (i seem to remember it is up to three times) i totally agree with your points.....i actually got hit by a motorbike taxi while he was riding the wrong way on second road near soi new plaza and ended up having to pay for a new mirror because i was obviously in the wrong being a falang!!

    • @LePubPattaya
      @LePubPattaya  8 місяців тому +1

      The penalty for driving without a licence is so small that nobody would take points and offenses seriously.
      The big problem with road safety in Thailand is legislation.

      Whatever you like and it makes no difference for test/license. Of course drive off uphill is more "fun" with automatic :>) Limousines are close to 100% automatic in Thailand since two decades or so. Manual is more often seen with the pickups (light trucks).

    3rd video I have heard this nonsense fact about Thai driving mortality. Total nonsense. Before doing any research do you really think Thailand will be worse than chaotic countries in Africa, middle east or central America. Some of these places barely even have a rule of law. Have you visited any of these countries, or have any idea how life is there? Thailand actually ranks about 40th in the world. All of the top 20 bar 1 country are African countries.
