Totally agree. I use several in my garden. The sculptures and garden ornaments usually give you an insight of who the owner of the gardener is.
I do agree with you. The way gardens are set out and the decorative elements incorporated into them opens a window into the gardener as a person

I had to have a Mimosa tree cut down, as the squirrels were using it to springboard to the house. I had the guy leave a stump about 18" tall, I put a cement rabbit wearing a tuxedo on it, he reminds me of a fancy Peter Rabbit. Also have a cement pair of frogs sitting back to back reading books separating my pond and bog garden. Really enjoyed this one, the piece at 1.27 is especially nice, I really love how you see the tree through it. Have also admired the Goddess in your garden, and think the dogs are the prefect touch.

I am not a fan of sculptures and ornaments but I thought I would watch this video, because (I watch them all) and because sure it has some ideas for garden benches, which I am looking for and yes, there were a few benches! (that could be another full topic actually!) 😊

Certainly we weren't spoiled for choice in this video from ultra modern to classic Greek. Some of the sculptures were amazing....the galloping horses were incredible

Hello Alexandra, I do love garden ornaments in any shape or form. Depending of a variety of things, space, costs and materials. I think careful thought should be taken into account. before installation. In my mind, a garden is a form of expressing your own art. For myself I prefer the metal art, the birds, Cockrill's, some frogs, and balls. We all have different taste make the best of your garden, bird houses, whatever brings you joy, we can always change our ornaments even donate them to somebody else. I really like some of those sculptures. Many were a bit too modern for my style. I always go for animal sculptures. The circles made into a large ball was my favourite. Thanks for sharing this.

Interesting. I do have a few small pieces and am always looking around for more, but I'm also just sticking my toe into topiary which I think can act similarly. I had a real prejudice against topiary for years -- "It's so forced," I thought. But now I'm craving the structure and the contrast with it and the rest of my garden after finally "getting it," finally seeing how thrilling it can be to have the more wild or ethereal against the geometry. I actually planted a baby boxwood that I was going to leave unpruned, but then decided to try making into a cone shape. :o And I may even get one or two lolly pop shaped boxwoods in the spring.
I used to feel the same about garden ornaments but now like the idea of them.

Wonderful treasure trove of info comme d'habitude. I LOVE that recyled, crashed-in fence, painted bright red! Presently, I am leaning towards using topiary and other structural plants (yucca, mahonia, etc) as sculptural accents. Especially when potted and placed on pedestals. I am planning to shape a golden leydand cypress in a pot in the form of a pyramid to go at the shady end of the central garden path. It grows fast and should brighten up that space.

Hello Alexandra. I always find you so pleasant and your keenness for your subject shines through. I live in cold Scotland so feel some more, only natural, garden ornaments are called for in my very wildlife garden. Your garden videos are the most interesting to me as you commentate so nicely during them. More videos for cold climate gardening please with very acid soil. I have quite a lovely display of azaleas & rhododendrons at end of May, beginning of June plus nice snowdrops and daddies later on but feel I lack a lot going on in later months so hence perhaps some more ornaments etc. Thank you so much again. I usually watch you prior to going to sleep hopefully as am bit of an insomniac but love to be in my garden.

As I told you , I am working on the new garden and just last week I found an old chunk of wood I had for years and I was thinking to make a sculpture out of it. Its to be set on a staneless steel rod and be combind with solarlight. So it will look like a calla flower. thank you so much for doing this Video. I was not sure how to place it but I think I got it now. 👍🙂 great job and have a wonderful week. 🌻

Hello Alexandra! Yesterday, after watching one video, then another, I subscribed. I saw a Chihuly installation at Fairchild Tropical Gardens in Coral Gables, Florida around 4-5 years ago. I found one or two interesting but really how can something man made compete with nature. Think jade vine, Strongylodon macrobotrys (I had to look that up), a school of small electric blue fish or stunningly beautiful butterflies that I saw the same day. Yet that said, I succumbed and bought a rather large sculpture which I haven't placed. I am still looking for the spot that will give the most impact so this episode was very helpful. Thank you! Wish I could send you some pictures of that day in Florida!

That is such a difficult question! Try asking friends when they come round and see if anyone has a ny good ideas. But choose something you really like looking at
I’ve never been a fan of garden sculptures. I don’t mind if they’re purposeful - like a decorative birdbath. And I agree a pond provides an opportunity. Those two in the small gardens at bbc gardeners world did look good but I can’t help feeling that a putting a large sculpture in small garden is a trick that an interior designer would use, a gardener would find the right plant.

Chihuly is a talented but very strange person. One would think that he lost his eye because of his glass work. Nope, he lost it in a car accident. One would think that he ruined his shoulder and had to stop blowing glass because of his work. Nope, he got it damaged in a surfing accident. Damn, if he just stayed with his work, he would be perfectly safe and still making these sculptures by himself! :)

So far I see nothing that fits my requirements and is affordable but I keep looking...thanks for not showing one of those terrible gnome statues where he is exposing his derriere. I keep getting these terrible ads by email from some store.

I don't understand a modern sculpture in a garden, to me it ruins the entire look. A garden is something natural and rustic, and suddenly something completely out of place shows up.
That's a very valid point of view.
