I'm a Chinese adoptee and I have never felt connected to my origins and never learned anything about the country where I was born due to part internalised racism due to my environment, and part other personal circumstances. I only recently came to accept the Asian side of myself and still have a hard time sometimes wanting to acknowledge myself, especially with what I've been put through during my childhood. I not very long ago came to know the name of the city I'm from, and started gaining an interest in catching up to this amazing and profound cultural and historical heritage. I have felt very much like an outsider not fitting in with the world where I grew up, but also the world where my roots are connected. Through your renditions of the beautiful traditional music I feel as if I'm at least a little bit closer, and I'm so very grateful for that connection. I don't know if I will ever feel like a part of the culture, having always been outside it, and it saddens me, but at least listening to this makes my heart ache and long for it. I'm very thankful for that kind of gift.
Sorry for what you have experienced in your childhood. Glad that you begin to be interested in Chinese culture, but you are you, there is nothing wrong for you not to be ready to accept your ´origins ´, and there is nothing wrong to feel attached to Chinese culture. Enjoy the music.☺️
@@jiahuixu5988 Thank you so much for saying this! I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. Even though we are both strangers here who don't know each other it's the most comfort I've been able to get regarding this subject, since still have a hard time talking about in my actual life with both my family and friends. I really appreciate it
Nurture yourself as who you are. Don’t be afraid of discrimination - they are only blind and stupid. Chinese culture and people are among the greatest in the world. Take pride in your origin, seek your root and acknowledge your love and connection. We all feel for you.
No one can choose their family and childhood coming to this world. We all get brought to this fxxxing cruel world without being consulted. But on the other hand, this world is also full of love and beauty. For good people like you and me, all we need to do is don't lose your faith and keep seeking it. Plus, compare to those poor kids who often get shot by random bullets or starved to death in those unfortunate third world countries and regions all over the world, you are already considered lucky as hell. You have no idea how those kids struggle their shit out just to live a normal life. For you, that life is already there waiting and you only need to grab it. Talking about fairness in life, your life is being jealoused by millions already as a matter of fact. So just be confident, be strong. You can't change who you are. You can only turn what you already have to you greatest strengths. Come on, think about it. You grew up in western world but also have eastern origins. That's such a unique feature of yours. Embrace it, cultivate it, and let yourself grow into something fasinating. Turn yourself into a mix of western and Chinese cultures, these are THE BEST two civilizations of the entire human history. What more can you ask for!
@@robinfei This really isn't about me comparing myself to more unfortunate ones than me, and I wouldn't say that loss of identity and culture is necessarily something to be dubbed as a "lesser trauma". I'm sure you were meaning well in writing this comment, but the tone of it is really quite accusing in trying to diminish my feelings. You don't know me. you don't know where I grew up, in what kind of neighbourhood, or what my parents are like. There really is no way for you to be able to rightfully say that I should consider myself lucky. You reasoning is simply that my situation could have been worse, and that other people have it worse which you logically cannot even know since you do not know me. Your arguments are fundamentally flawed, and me expressing my loss of identity thoughout my life does not in any way invalidate anyone else. Never have I ever mentioned anything about the direction of my life being fair or unfair, only that I feel grateful for being given the opportunity to finally be able to start learning about myself. I really hope you become more considerate when commenting on these kind of subjects in the future.
it never went away. for every Chinese dynasties, once they got away with wars and poverty, they will go back to grace to culture. its a natural procedure in Chinese history.
As a filmmaker, this is just so beautiful to watch. Perfect composition in just the color choice/setting of microphones/placement of musicians. Whoever conceptualized this deserves an award.
i think the placement and mise-en-scne looks kinda like the moutain water Chinese painting. they did a very good job, I think the picture is very balanced.
In my opinion (Chinese living in the US), one of the essences of Chinese traditional culture is "acceptance", like in music, painting, poem, etc. As a civilization, China has witnessed countless dynasties, kingdoms, and rulers that once dominated its stage but inevitably all faded away. It rises and falls; prospers and delines; had reached the zenith and also been on the brink of collapse. Its very existence is not laying on the force of self striving, but the knowledge that nothing is immortal in the face of time.
Please note this music has nothing to do with true classical Chinese music. It is a derived mix inspired by Western tradition, performed on Chinese traditional instruments. To listen to some true classical Chinese music, search for "Ancient Music of Tang Dynesty". You will find it has a more foreign harmonic, melodic and rhythmic nature.
I am wearing my Chinese Sea-gull watch while I am watching this on my Chinese Huawei p10 plus phone. After it has finished I will make notes with my Jinhao X750 Shimmering Sands Chinese fountain pen. Thats a grateful way to see the comtemporary days. I live in a small industrial region in Brazil, that is seeing a lift with chinese companies moving in. Is a diferent world from now on, in all ways
Primo Antonius I don’t think so, there are more european classical music videos on UA-cam that are well appreciated by more people than Chinese classical music on UA-cam.
Hyakkimaru kun You need lessons of history. When you write and speak Japanese, please remember the origen. Don’t say it’s from your islands. Quite funny.
Ancient Chinese emperor and royals listen to this( oc played by a larger scale of orchestra, even with a set of chimes ). They drink the mellowest wine and watch dances in the grand palace. 😂 I can't help trying imagining this. Or refined scholars would enjoy this in moutains by the lake and river. Deadly enchanting
If I'm not wrong, this is Yayue 雅樂? My favorite thing about UA-cam is the ACCESS it gives me to music that I would otherwise never know. I am American.... we have lots of music, some of it great, but our history only goes back so far. As such, I often find myself feeling like a tourist without a country, like I lack an cultural "anchor," if that makes any sense. Our buildings are new, our art is new, our music, cuisine, and just about everything else came FROM somewhere else (places I've never been, peoples I've never met). In any event, the internet allows me to travel the world (and even through time, like visiting this lovely spot ~2000 years ago) to hear this beautiful music, and I am very grateful for the opportunity. Thank you Zi De Guqin Studio for uploading and sharing your beautiful art with the world!
Love this comment! I couldn't be more thankful for the internet as it has introduced me to pretty much all of my interests :) Also, many of my American friends described the same feeling you did about your culture. Eventhough you might not have the vast historic background of for example some European countries (I'm German) or China, the U.S. has a super interesting history too! And I loved to see the newer historic sites, it allows you to feel really connected to what happened there! I hope you don't feel sad when you feel "like a tourist" because your history and culture, especially including the side of Native Americans is so rich and beautiful. Let's discover a lot more and enjoy the good sides of the internet like this comment section haha :) I hope this all makes sense and I didn't misinterpret your message, if so I would apologize :)
Talking about quality comment lol If you are talking about the Six Arts in Zhou Dynasty, then I'm afraid it is not. The music is 雅 aesthetically speaking, but firstly it's more for entertainment; 雅樂 was used mostly for traditional ceremony (enshrining, for example). Secondly, the music this vd is based on came from a Chinese anime, and that came from a piece composed in 1918, originally for Erhu (which some ppl don't think should be included as an instrument to play 雅樂).
This is actually a song from a Chinese anime called 《 秦时明月 》' The Legend of Qin '. This song is created for the side story line of OVA 《空山鸟语》'Birdsong in hollow valley'. This studio ofc improved the original soundtrack, but I think a bit more credit should be given to the Legend of Qin studio team.
Not only sound and color, but posture, movement and silence. Each musician placed harmoniously to each other, to the group, to the audience. Such refinement is evidence of a culture that values aspects of life most of us barely are aware to exist.
Renato Alcides as a Chinese, your comments made me tear up. Thank you for being able to feel the culture! We are very peaceful people living our own ways!
And it’s so fortunate that we are still able to imagine the ancient world by listening to this type of heavenly-inherited traditional style music after thousands of years!!
Please note that there were different forms of court music: yayue (court ritual music) was quite different from yanyue (court banquet music). In the modern day, many people don't know the difference and confuse them.
God, at first I thought it was a painting! This style really reflects the classical beauty of China.
@elijah mikle Well, music historians have a very good understanding of the origins of harmony, tunings and rhythm. Our ears are trained to Western style music, which is why you like this music. This in no way reduces the quality, craftsmanship and creativity of Chinese classical music. However, it will expect more effort from you and me to appreciate original Chinese music. It is similar to drinking a special wine of a grape variety that you do not yet know: the first impression can be less pleasant, and you should learn to drink it over time. The fact that you can appreciate this music without any effort is a strong indication that this is not original Chinese classical music. Someone with a good musical ear can quickly hear the (relatively modern) popular, Western harmonies and rhythms. Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator
@@EdwindeJong0 this only shows your ignorance, do you know the source of this music so as to make your statement? Music is history, if you claim it was from western culture, say smth how it that happen hundreds of years ago before you show you stupidity.
@@rabbit719 In the description under the video it is mentioned the composer is 魏小涵 (Wei Xiaohan), who is the founder and CEO of the famous music production company The One Studio (the first production brand of Chinese game animation and music outsourcing) and a senior music producer. I can't find his year of birth, but is seems somewhere in the 90's. As he is credited as the composer, we should consider him the 'source'. He is most likely inspired by Western and Eastern cultures alike, as any musician who listens to this record probably agrees with. I don't understand this sentence: "...how it that happen hundreds of years ago before you show you stupidity." Can you rephrase that?
most of western music is more on liberalism and strong tones they do it in extremely high or extremely low notes ..while asian music like this in china is more on mellow and subtle melodies the sound of calmness that will connect you to nature and representing the simplicity of living, most of the melodies are naturally occurring like the whisper of the wind the birds singing the water flowing and even the sun shining..
I encourage you to listen to more traditional music from Europe! Ancient Greek melodies were considerably mellower and tonally more even, for example, same for Byzantine music. The energetic tunes you are talking about came a bit later after the middle ages. A lot of more recent Balkan music has the energy you're describing.
you are right.this is the core of this song.the name of the song is"the whisper of birds in the silent Valley",Although the name of the song lost its beauty in Chinese after translation, the charm of music is no different from that of other countries.
I love how Chinese Traditional music is arranged like a conversation, and I love how this piece in particular feels like each distinct part is very unique but they make a coherent story when put together. Very well done.
wow, I'm not sure if you are familiar with Chinese traditional music, you are very much on point! Making conversation through instruments is the core value of our music. So it seems music is the universal language for the world.😄
@@rogeraraujo4900I agree. Baroque is mystical but I also place Chinese traditional music in that category considering it has been in existence for thousands of years.
Many American and European people, having had a poor quality education about the stigma of capitalism, grew up believing that the apex of the western world was the US or England, but history shows that millennial cultures are the most refined and true of us. in its essence because knowledge is impregnated in the soul of the people its origin language and ancient customs .... Today we see that both ancient Greece and the Egyptian Civilizations the Persians the Hindus and here in the Americas the Aztecs had moments of incredible discovery and advancement of technology culture science in their society. In the Chinese case even Japanese and Korean culture had their cradle in China ... Long live the Amazing People and Chinese Culture.

I couldn't be more thankful for the internet as it has introduced me to pretty much all of my interests :)
Also, many of my American friends described the same feeling you did about your culture.
Let's discover a lot more and enjoy the good sides of the internet like this comment section haha :)
I hope this all makes sense and I didn't misinterpret your message, if so I would apologize :)

Talking about quality comment lol
If you are talking about the Six Arts in Zhou Dynasty, then I'm afraid it is not.
I love the original anime version better tbh...
Not only sound and color, but posture, movement and silence. Each musician placed harmoniously to each other, to the group, to the audience. Such refinement is evidence of a culture that values aspects of life most of us barely are aware to exist.

Great job, Great Ancient China, This is China in its true sense.
You mean, stealing Western traditional harmonies and rhythms and selling it back to the Western World as something new?
stealing? so western also steal compass, paper, gun powder and so many things from china.

Song dynasty court music
I encourage you to listen to more traditional music from Europe! Ancient Greek melodies were considerably mellower and tonally more even, for example, same for Byzantine music. The energetic tunes you are talking about came a bit later after the middle ages. A lot of more recent Balkan music has the energy you're describing.

White guilt
Lmao
Talk about yourself
Nobody in Europe thinks England or even less US are the apex of the western world
And Europe has millennial cultures, what are you saying
Wow. Absolutely amazing. Like a painting come to life with beautiful music.
This is art. As well from the cinematic aspect as from the music. Well done!
Just beautiful...big thanks!!!🌈🦋greetings from Germany😁
Although this music was written by a modern composer, the name of this music is based on a poem written by a Tang dynasty poet named WANG Wei 王维 over 1300 years ago.
