The girl climbing out the tv and what you said is what still fucks with me about this movie when most others don't bother me. Well that and the context of your environment the first time you watched it. The first time I say this movie. I had recently moved to a desolate state in an even more desolate town that I had ever lived in my life. I didn't know the area very well. My boyfriend that did know the area was. An hr away at work. I had rented this movie to watch. It was about 3am. The first time they showed the well in the movie. I remembered there was one just like it with a lid on it and chain locked right outside my kitchen window. 🤦👀😳

"I can't imagine being stuck down a well all alone like that. How long could you survive?"
    "Seven days."
Fun Fact: Theatrical movie debut of Tess Hall.
Location Location Fact: Seattle, Washington was chosen as the chief location of the film production because of its wet, isolated setting.
Killer Marketing Fact: Long before the movie premiered, the killer video was used as a commercial. The commercial did not mention any movie for nearly a month.
Shadowless Green Fact: For the choice of the film's color, it was decided that everything was to be tinged with the color green to give the film a sickly, unnatural feeling. Sets were also lit in a way that none of the characters have a shadow, to create an almost subconscious sense of creepiness.
Americanized Silliness Fact: The ring shape motif is unique to the American remake. Kôji Suzuki, the author of the novel upon which the movies are based, says that the title referred to the cyclical nature of the curse, since, for the viewer to survive after watching it, the video tape must be copied and passed around over and over.
Cursed DVD Fact: The "cursed" video is available as an easter egg on the DVD. Once the "video" has started playing, you can't stop it, pause it, fast-forward it, or return to the menu. Unless you turn off the TV, you're forced to watch the whole thing. When it's over, the DVD returns to the menu, then you hear a phone ring twice before you're given control over your remote again.

The Ring scared me twice the first time I watched it. I was in the Navy at the time and our ship just returned from a deployment. A shipmate was nice enough to loan me the DVD for the evening. Half the ship was gone so I had the whole living space to myself. I turned off all the lights, hit play on the remote, and sat the remote on the arm rest of the couch. The movie ended and was pretty much spooked. Then I noticed a feature on the DVD called "Don't Watch This." I selected to the feature and placed the remote back down on the arm rest. The feature was just the video from the movie spliced with deleted scenes. As I am watching it the TV just turned off by itself. I froze and started looking for the remote. I thought maybe I could have hit the remote by accident or something. With arms resting on my lap, I slowly turned my head to see the remote still sitting on the arm rest. There's no way I accidentally hit it. I swiftly got up and got outta there. Found the shipmate that loaned me the DVD and told him what just happened. We had a laugh about.
With being said, love the channel! Love your reactions!

The ring is an American remake of the Japanese film Ringu. Samara or Sadako in the original Japanese film was inspired by the Onryu. Onryu are caused when someone dies a traumatic or violent death. They become vengeful spirits and they seek to destroy those who have harmed them and anyone who comes across their territory etc. The Grudge/ Ju On is another film that talks about this spirit.

The movie you're probably thinking of J is Jennifer's Body. There's one scene that is very key to the plot. The Ring started a whole wave of Japanese horror remakes that thankfully died out fairly quickly. I remember the horror FPS games that came out around this era, F.E.A.R. The first two games were pretty solid. And yeah man, if Margot Robbie walked out of my TV, I don't think I'd question it too much. I'd just ask if she'd like to have a seat and offer a drink.

The first time I watched this movie, I was 11. I had difficulties falling asleep for years because I was so scared of Samara. It is my favourite horror movie and I've watched it many times. If you watch the whole trilogy, the whole backstory becomes clear and it is actually quite interesting. Also, you have a sweet dog! :) And the video was very entertaining, as always. :)

I remember when The Ring dvd was released, one of the bonus features was the full cursed film. Once you started watching it, the dvd player controls stopped functioning, making it impossible to stop it until it ended.

I watched this in the theater with my grandma. It was the last movie my grandma wanted to watch at the theater. I felt bad about it and tried to get her to go to friendly family movies and she just politely declined.

I constantly forget that Gore Verbinski directed this gem. Makes me wish he'd made more horror movies.

I honestly forgot how good The Ring was. It was a pleasure watching this with you. I can't wait for The Ring 2 and Scary Movie 2.

Love your reactions Jay, a great movie you should check out for Halloween is the 2019 sequel to The Shining Doctor Sleep, it's one of the best newer movies I've seen in a LONG time.

This movie scared my mom so much because she worked night shift as a police dispatcher, and the room had several screens for watching the surveillance cameras. They were all in black and white too. She was so creeped out sitting in that department alone at night 😂

The colour grading on this film does add an extra eeriness to it. A lot of tense horror films did the same after this one.

This is a rare case where I actually prefer the American version to the original Japanese. The atmosphere and growing mystery is just done better in this version, in my opinion. The sequels, on the other hand? Japanese versions are MUCH better.

I had the whole pleasure and privilege to see this badass flick via VHS and blockbuster! Pizza and everything. I was like 11 too so me and my whole silly family were superstitious about the 7 days thing! 😂

Very good choice and a very good American remake as well. It's not the scariest film I've ever seen, but it's got a great psychological element to it, and one of the creepiest supernatural characters in movie horror, Samara. I also remember when the DVD originally came out, it had the actual "Samara tape" as a Bonus feature and you could watch it without interruption.....if you dared 😆
I'm not sure if you're into foreign films, but the original Japanese version, Ringu, is better. Not to take anything away from this version, but it's much creepier.
