    A two person pad. This might just be what I need for a good nights sleep too. For an extra pound, I think it’s worth it.

      It's definitely the best comfort item I've purchased, super nice not having my arms or legs touch the ground

    I asked pomoly if they would build everyone a one off unique tent and stove set up for UA-cam. They have said every tent has two options. 1 take it 2 leave it 😂.

    How does the tent handle 50 to 60 km wind?

    You need a better saw. That was a long time to cut that wood. I’d recommend a corona folding saw I promise best $20 you’ll ever spend.
    Beautiful set you have their top shelf. I really like that style tent.

    Subbed. Great video. Love the "show, dont talk" format. Your "Heavy pack bounce" at the beginning has me worried for your knees, though. I didn't see a lot in your kit that could be lightened given the climate and needs, but I would say from my own trial and error: the saw is your friend, the axe is not. Also: why a 2 person pad for one sleeper?

      @alpineadventures6516  Рік тому +2

      Appreciate the sub! I'm an active sleeper and so the extra pound difference for a two person pad is worth it for me. My winter setup is definitely heavy but it makes for some good training

    I watch this sort of thing when I get homesick, then I see you setting up and think "WTF are you doing?" The number of things I saw wrong were mind boggling. Yeah, easy to tell you aren't really good at this yet but you haven't had any disasters to learn from yet so you keep going the same path. You wont learn unless somebody says something so grab a cup of coffee sit down next to the campfire.
    1. Don't pull anything out of your pack unless you need it.
    2. You should practice setting up the tent before you go out. It appears that this was close to, if not the first time you used it, from how it came out of the bag and the guy lines weren't already attached. Your set up wasn't in that high of winds so it was easy as hell with your methods, but add just a good breeze and that tent would have been flying all over the place.
    3. Loose the bag the tent comes in, that stays at home when you want to store it away between trips. If there had been any kind of decent wind you would have lost it anyway because you didn't properly stow it after taking the tent out.
    4. Previously alluded to, before you head out make sure all your guy lines are already attached to the tent. Don't try to tie those things on at the campsite! If your hands had been cold or wet it would have taken you a lot longer to tie them on, which is when you don't want to have to take that much extra time.
    5. If you want it all purty like when you opened your pack to show off your puffy and sleeping bag for the camera then learn to flake your tent like you were flaking a foresail on a sailboat and pack it in the top of your pack. Otherwise just treat the pack like a stuff sack and shove it in the reverse order you want to pull it out. I don't use a hydration bladder so I use the sleeve for the bladder to stuff my tent into. You only have to pull out a small part at a time and the pack keeps it from flying away. Only pull out the windward (upwind) part of the outer tent first and stake it down. This will prevent all manner inconvenient problems before they ever happen (trust me, I learned the hard way in 60 mph winds in Wyoming). Your pack will magically keep your tent from blowing away while you stake it down. Then pull it out to the first pole sleeve and put that pole through and stake out the bottom, but not the guy lines yet (those come last). Stake out the tent bottom with the pole in the sleeve at this point but resist the urge to have the tent stand up yet, you don't want it up in the wind yet and it doesn't need to be up in the wind yet while you are doing other things. Pull it out to the next pole sleeve and repeat. Then pull it all the way out and stake out the foot (downwind side of the tent).
    6. Now go back and pull the guy lines that go windward tight and the tent will stand up. The wind will keep the lines taught. Then quickly stake out the other guy lines. With practice you should be able to erect the outer shell of a tunnel tent like this in 5 minutes in good conditions and 10 minutes in bad. Don't tell me you don't get sudden bad weather where you wont ever need to get a tent up fast.
    7. Put all your remaining gear into the tent shell at this point. Everything else except inserting and staking out the chimney can be done inside.
    8. This refers back to having the guy lines already attached. Cutting the opening for the stove jack shouldn't be done at the campsite either. You hadn't set that stove up in this tent before.
    9. More a suggestion than something you did wrong. There are other options than Mountain House and some of them are pretty good. I eat Mountain House in the warmer months and Peak in cold months for the extra calories. Extra calories keeps me warmer at night when I am trying to sleep.
    10. Quit making me so damn homesick!

    Looking for a tent for hunting, this look likes it fits the bill. Any cons?

    • @alpineadventures6516
      @alpineadventures6516  Рік тому +2

      My biggest issues with the tent would be the weight (if you will be using it for backpacking), the setup of the tent can be challenging (particularly with one of the outer poles needing a lot of force to snap in place, and the way the inner tent attaches is a bit of a pain), and the headroom is quite low compared to other tents.
      With that said, it’s a really unique design that provides a lot of room (particularly with the large vestibule space), is great for hot tenting, and handles wind like a champ. Hope that helps!

    I like this tent except for the lack of support in the sleeping area roof. It can sag under heavy rains or snow loads. They should have added an additional pole across that area and added an additional hook mid tent for a light instead at the foot of the tent. Another consideration is the all most 7 lbs. weight. That is not what I would call a backpacking tent, more of a car camping tent.
