Just a tip, when cutting of old hoses from nipples, try to whittle them off instead of cutting straight down. Deep scratches can cause leaks if the scratch follows the nipple, if you go across you don't run into the same issue. I don't know how accurate this is, but it was a tip I got from an experienced colleague/mechanic.

You're the first person to ever say this, but yes I kind of have. I still have to work 7 days a week all day to keep this going so its swings and roundabouts. And I agree with you on the pipe thing. Thanks vmoutsop, I appreciate it.
Terrific video! Amazing attention to detail! I mean zinc plating the clips and brackets...most people would would just get new ones. And base/clear paint, on a gas tank-awesome! Very well done, I’m glad I found this channel, gonna check out more. My only question, why not check the tank for leaks, or did I miss that part? Just presume it’s still solid based on overall condition? I feel your pain on the crossover pipe cost, I once had to get a couple of bolts for my Jeep, dealership only part...the almost always stoic counter guy actually laughed out loud and said “wow that’s an expensive bolt” when he saw how much each bolt cost on the computer, $40-something each...and he sells ridiculously overpriced dealer parts all day long and has for many years. Had to have it lol. The burden of those who love old cars.
Have you peeked inside the tank? Not sure about fuel in UK but at my place there is whole lot of gunk after 30 years, perhaps it could use a clean from the inside too.
Looks good! But how's the inside? Just removed my dead fuelpump in my e30 and the inside is really rusty, it's been sitting with almost no gas for atleast 10 year but i guess they corrode pretty quick with a little condensation in them :/ I'm thinking about electricity or acid to clean it out, plan B is to just install a fuelcell instead but we'll see :P Anyway keep up the good work!
I'm just asking cause I am really not sure but wouldn't just getting an after market tank are even a fuel cell been a better option. Y'all please tell me I would like to know.
Hey Tha, it might be the case if you don't own a youtube restoration channel thats all about restoring everything, it's 50% for me 50% for the videos at this point.
£170 for that little piece is outrageous. You could easily have gotten away with 1/50 of that, had you produced the piece yourself. You could even have used a rubber hose, but had you wanted a metal piece, you can buy them in any lengths you want, and shape them how you want, add the nuts and put the flanges on the ends with a special tool.
