    Fox tends to eat in private, away from possible enemies or dangers - while the dog eats rightaway. Dog feels safe in its familiar environment, while fox is nervous and suspitious.

    I feel for the fox. Always scared, like a bird, looking around for hidden threats, just like a stray dog. Life is difficult for untamed creatures. I wonder what the animalists would say about this.

    • @ProfRonconi
      @ProfRonconi 4 роки тому +1

      @@allasar Right. It just saddens me that creatures should spend their lives in fear. Of course, that's how natural selection works (see the dodo, for example), but it doesn't seem right. Whatever our shortcomings, only we humans have the chance of turning nature around. And don't talk to me about unethical breeding practices: nothing we do to animals compares to being eaten alive by a predator. Cows are essentially helpless, as are sheep and chickens. If it wasn't for humans, they would all have been erased from the face of the Earth.

    • @ProfRonconi
      @ProfRonconi 4 роки тому

      @@allasar I've heard that argument many times before. I just would point out that:
      - animals appear to experience pain in much the same way that humans do. As the great, immortal Stanilaw Lem put it, "a sufferer is not someone who gives you his suffering for you to weigh.... A sufferer is someone who behaves like a sufferer!"
      - I agree, of course, with your appraisal of humans and foxes. It saddens me, however, that such intelligent and beautiful creatures should spend their lives in permanent fear.
      - Some species only exist because of human intervention: cows, sheep, goats, some species of salmon, most dogs are only alive because humans need then, either economically or emotionally. Should humans stop eating meat or stop having dogs as pets, millions of cosws and dogs would either starve to death or be killed and eaten by stronger predators.
      - All things considered, humans have given animals a longer, less stressful life than Nature would've afforded them.
      Remember, before a cow is butchered it is killed. Nature does nor care about such niceties.

    Fascinating.... (said Mr. Spock ☺). It raises a number of interesting questions about the differences between the two.
    Was it because domesticated dogs are more intelligent than wild foxes? Did the fox take more time and pay almost equal attention to the container because it was an unusual object in its environment - hardly any items are bright blue AND translucent AND rigid in nature - while the dog paid barely any because it was used to being surrounded by human plastic stuff? Was it because foxes need to be more inquisitive to survive in the wild, while dogs are known to lose interest in things that don't affect them? Or was it due to some differences between the species in their perception of different colours (or lack thereof) in the spectrum of light?
