Most the names come from the indigenous people. Which their land was taken away from them and they’re forced to live on reservations 🤔
So we didn't just steal their land, we stole the meaning and definition of their land as well.
Hii,hope y'all have a good day
I'm not from Illinois, but I've been there. The name comes from joining the words "ill", meaning "sick"; and "annoy", meaning "irritate". People from Illinois are called "FIPs". I can't recall what the "F" stands for, but the "IP" means "Illinois people". So I guess it's "fabulous Illinois people"? Or "fantastic Illinois people"? I can't remember.
