The PPS is a much smoother shooting pistol. I love the trigger and the thin grip. It feels like a much bigger gun than it really is. The Shield is a great gun, and I trust their revolvers above all others, but in this single-stack format, the Walther is just an overall better gun and a great value for $ spend. The fit and finish really show in its action and the way the slide operates. My PPS is now my EDC gun and will remain so for the foreseeable future. I was carrying a Springfield XD subcompact, and I love its 16+1 capacity, but its just too heavy for EDC. I also get much tighter groups with the Walther.
Great review KSGunGuy!! Informative and entertaining.

I'll admit I have a bit of bias to Smith and Wesson for a Model 19 .357 saving my life a few years ago, and I see the Shield pistols as the next Model 36. A small, concealable, simple, and affordable firearm with outstanding reliability that has sold in the millions and for good reason. As far as I'm concerned, they have a lifelong customer with me for providing outstanding products that are high quality, American made, and have saved my life before.

You really can't go wrong with either of these firearms.I owned both in the past(original versions) and they're the two best single/staggered stacks on the market imo. Now with the upgraded versions, it would be a tough choice between the two. However, if i decided to purchase one again, it would be the PPS.

I’ve owned both but now I only own the PPS M2. For me I shot the PPS constantly better all the way around, like its trigger better and it feels more like I’m shooting a gun that is larger than it is. Can’t go wrong with either gun however.

Great review KS ! It's so crazy to hear people complement Smith and Wesson guns for having good triggers. I'm glad that the 2.0 models are getting so much praise. I guess Apex won't be selling as many triggers for the 2.0 Smiths as they did for the original M&P'S.

Sandy Weeks I really liked both guns. The shield is a great subcompact 9mm. I do favor the Walther though. I prefer the trigger and sights on the Walther, but either gun is a solid choice. I have since started carrying the Glock 43x though. That is my favorite in the subcompact 9 class. The added capacity (15 if I can ever get my hands on the shield arms mag) and full size grip make this a better choice in my opinion. I tend to shoot it better as well. Ultimately go with whatever you feel most comfortable with.

Have been shooting the PPS m2 for months and love it. It broke in beautifully and there's nothing I don't like about it. The Shield was my runner-up choice. Was at my local gun store and they had a practically new Shield in the used case for a fantastic price. Box, 3 mags, everything. Can't wait to do some side-by-side comparisons with them.

The Walther PPS M2 LE sights are amazing in extreme low light. Also pricing was $100 cheaper than the S&W Shield, at least it was when I priced them both on the day of PPS purchase. Your mileage may vary.

I agree. The PPS M2 is an excellent cc handgun at $250 (I've seen it as low as 219 before). The PPS M2 LE is worth the extra money in my opinion. I've seen those at $295-319 often. I recently bought the Shield M2.0 for my grandmother after she was robbed in her drive way (and a concealed carry permit course). She wanted to buy from an American company so we got the Shield. However, if it was up to me and both handguns were the same price, I would get the PPS M2 because of the ergonomics and tigger. While you would be happy with either handguns, the drastic price difference (less if you're getting the LE PPS) was just the icing on the cake.

One small thing to consider about the PPS is the physical striker indicator. If you've ever trained with a double-action, hammer-fired pistol before, it's fairly common safety practice to reholster with your thumb over the hammer. If for whatever reason the trigger begins to creep back while reholstering like this, you get immediate tactile feedback that something is wrong, giving you that extra split second to pause and clear any obstructions before an accidental discharge. Though not as large as a hammer, the striker indicator can perform the same safety function. Just something to consider, especially with those wanting to appendix carry. This, and similar grip feel to my existing PPQ, are the reasons I went the PPS route.

I've had both the M1&M2 PPS, and I owned the original 9mm Shield the first week they came out. I think you did an awesome job with this review, as usual. If I hadn't just gotten the two M&P 2.0's I would probably have gone with the PPS. However, after shooting both of mine, and the fact that I no longer own my PPS M2 I think I would also choose the Shield 2.0. If it's anything like it's bigger siblings, I know it must be fantastic. Have a great weekend my friend.

The 2.0 Shield has a better grip, crowned barrel, better trigger w/a Great Wall before the trigger break-same as the former performance shield version, has a 7+1 and 8+1 capacity with standard magazines and is just overall a better version than the first generation Shield that is already a very proven platform. It is the best hands down.
If tritium night sights and a Hogue Handall beavertail grip were added as well, it would be the ultimate 9mm single stack by a large margin over Glock, Sig, Walther and Kahr. I can say this definitively, because I did just this to my 2.0 Shield 9mm, and I own Glocks and a Kahr PM9 and other than my Performance Center Shield in 45 acp, this is by far my favorite carry pistol. Good video my friend!!

My first handgun purchase was a S&W SD9VE. I'm very pleased with it's performance for intended use of home defense and plinking. I then wanted a great range gun + uspsa competition, so I purchased a CZ custom Shadow 2, which I really enjoy shooting. I'm looking for a ccw with my next firearm purchase and considering both the Walther PPS and M&P shield. Thank you for the comparison. Great review as always...I would agree with you, I would choose the Shield 2.0 over the PPS, but only if I didn't already have the original Shield. The 2.0 trigger might be a tiny bit smoother, but nothing great...and, just not enough other upgrades. I think the trigger on the PPS is nice, but it feels a bit "toyish" to me. So, if you don't have a either now, then I would definitely go with the new Shield 2.0 over the PPS. But, it still needs the Apex trigger.

I own both and have shot both a number of times and I find the PPS to be more accurate for me and the build feels more solid. The mag seems to fit better too. Don't get me wrong, I love both of them and enjoy shooting either one but for my daily CCW I grab the PPS. On top of everything else, the Shield has that grip which is nice when firing but the texture rubs against the skin if you have it touching. I use a waste strap and when I carry the Shield it rubs rough whereas the PPS doesn't irritate, but once again that depends on who is carrying it and where and how they are carrying it. In all honesty I would trust either one in a self defense situation. I picked the PPS up for about half the price of the Shield on sale too which makes it even more appealing. EDIT: I forgot to add that my Shield has the Crimson Trace laser and manual safety as well. It still has the articulating trigger.

I don't think you understand the purpose of these guns. If you need to carry 17 rounds then you'll carry a full size handgun. If you want something you can carry in your pocket you have to sacrifice capacity. It's pretty simple actually

I have a Shield 2.0 40 caliber. It is phenomenal on the way the trigger breaks. It is my first 40 and I was apprehensive. But, just go slow with a firm grip and feel the break...bullseye! High Quality firearm. I want the 9mm for the extra capacity as well, plus I have the holster for it. Great review.

In my opinion I like the shield alot better, especially the performance center version. The Walther was my first single stack 9mm for carry, and I enjoyed it, but had trouble practicing with it. I never felt consistent with my draws and grouping. I sold it for a Performance Center Shield for a killer deal which feels less snappy and easier to grip to me. Just my opinion but I think they are both great choices.

On par with previous comments, g43, PPS M2 or shield is a great choice. I carry the PPS M2 because of the trigger, grip and *more importantly* how I shoot with it.
I’ve shot all the other variants and honestly get consistently better groups with the PPS M2. Your experience may differ, but I’m Walther all the way now when it comes to single stack 9mm.

Just bought the S&W shield 2.0 It's the best carry semi I have ever felt out of the box. I would recommend it to anyone. Just be aware that it's tight, meaning it like any new gun needs a break in to allow easer racking and command of the levers...This is a quality gun....!

Great presentation. Its took guts for u to do it. I have both guns and the Walther to me is a better gun. I choose the Walther because I have owned a .380 PPK for 30yrs, have no issues and would never sell it. u, on the other hand, may have a preference because u carried a Shield .45, more familiar with it and Shield also looks better than the Walther. Nevertheless, the trigger is better on the Walther (opinion) and I like the trigger travel indicator on the rear because an experienced shooter can now Gage single action shooting. There is also 3 magazines. Good job.

Never owned or shot a Walther PPS. Looks like a great edc carry option. But I trust my life and that of my family to a Shield 9 every day...All it does is dissapear on your body, shoots anything you load it with... every single time, and hits everything you point it at...without fail, without breakage (I've dropped it so many times). And they are dirt cheap!...So perhaps not 007's 1st choice..but then again...The Shield is a 100 percent American made little can of whoop ass...

Nice video and well produced. My only critique would be that you not mention all of your previous experience with S&W M&P guns. I strongly suspected right from the start that you would pick the S&W because of those comments.
If you had left out the comments about your experience with S&W, your choice would have been completely uncolored and (seemingly) more objective, but I must say that you did give each gun a very nice analysis and clearly mentioned that the final choice was your opinion only.
Keep the videos coming, since you’re doing a great job and of course take my comments with a grain of salt because they are just my opinion as well.

I have both LE version and the shield 2.0 with the crimson trace. They both fire very well. I've put over 1000 rounds through each, and they hold up well. Both are easy to maintain, but I've turned the PPS into my EDC. It feels better to carry and Alien Gear makes the shape shift for it so I barely feel it there. I have not yet found a holster that feels comfortable for the shield. I'm not a fan of kydex. Both are amazing CCW options though.

Can u do a video like this with the Taurus millennium g2 9mm and the scy spx 2 to of the best budget 9mm guns and it would be awsome cuz a lot of people want to pick a good gun that doesn't break the bank and still runs good. Ps the Taurus millennium g2 if think is way more reliable and runs better and feels and looks better. Just my ap. But it would be cool if u did.
