      F35 has a powerful auxiliary power unit reliable APU in addition to the powerful large diameter single jet engine. The APU generates electric power which runs the electrical avionics. Radar, ECM, and possible laser pulse weapons could run on such a robust APU.

      It's advertised as a 28,000lb dry thrust, 43,000lb max thrust with AB motor, and shows every sign that it produces those levels of thrust. The Improved Performance Engines for the F-16C Block 30-52 are anywhere from 28,000-29,160lbs in AB, so basically what the PW F135 in the F-35 will do with dry thrust alone. It's an insane fighter engine in the thrust department, with excellent maintainability and FADEC. Pratt & Whitney already developed a Growth option mid-section modular compressor stage drop-in replacement that increases the thrust to between 45,580 lb to 47,300lb in AB, and between 29,680 to 30,800lb in dry military power.
      F-16 and F/A-18 pilots who have converted to the F-35 say it feels like a turbo-charged fighter in comparison to what they came from in many ways. F-15C pilots say they had better acceleration in the twin-engined Eagle, but the F-35A has better slow speed responsiveness and stack/scissors performance. They said the F-15C has slightly better Instantaneous and Sustained Turn Rates, and can recover airspeed faster. F-16C pilots said the F-35A has almost identical ITR, slightly less STR, but recovers airspeed better than the Viper.
      100% of all former F-15C and F-16C pilots said they would take the F-35A into combat over their previous jets without reservation, especially for BVR engagements.

    • @LRRPFco52
      @LRRPFco52 5 років тому +5

      @@georgehunter2813 Twin-Engined fighters suffer from scaled expenses since you need twice the internal volume and plumbing for 2 motors, a larger airframe for fuel and lift, which then requires more volume, materials, manufacturing processes, maintenance, etc.
      The F-22 has 2 extremely powerful motors already, and no matter how you load it with full internal weapons, it still has greater than 1:1 thrust/weight ratio. In full afterburner, it generates 70,000lb of thrust, which is ridiculous.
      It would be fun to make a few air demo F-15s with F135 motors in them, but with MATV 3D TV nozzles integrated with the DFLCS, a more modern composite airframe dropping the weight while increasing the strength, but this would cost billions to do and have no operational capability added since the RCS is so huge on the F-15.

The F-35 was directly in front of us when he went into afterburner to depart the high-alpha pass; I've been shooting airshows for nine years and that was the first time a pass by any aircraft physically hurt.
      And it was awesome.

      It's like a rocket ship. 43,000lb will do that to a plane that only weighs 37,000-39,000lb, assuming they gassed up with 7-9k lbs of fuel. Full fuel capacity is 18,500lb, but most airshow demos are done with around 50% fuel, depending on the aircraft. T/W is probably 1.16. It will be scary to see the Growth option engines in this thing.

      Su-57 doesn't even have a production-ready engine for it. The US had 2 different engines from both GE and PW in the 1987-1990 period for 2 different ATF prototypes, and went into serial production with the F119-PW-100 5th Gen fighter motor. We then developed the even more powerful F135-PW-series motors for the JSF, and are producing them by the hundreds, soon to be thousands. Meanwhile, Russia put a prototype Product-30 engine in one side of the Su-57 aerodynamic and propulsion testbed aircraft December of last year for tests. We haven't heard anything since....
      Back in the US, P&W and GE are already working on the new tri-flow, variable cycle, 6th Gen motors for ADVENT. The F-35 later production blocks will be getting an improved performance engine with increased thrust and fuel efficiency in the 47,000-50,000lb thrust class. P&W already made a drop-in stage that increases existing F135 motors to 47,000lb of thrust.

    *K. Was there anything in that set that an F-4 couldn't have done? CERTAINLY an F-16 from the 70s !!! Did I miss the totally impressive things??*

      You did, I know f-16 pilots say this jet puts them in a kill position so easily against the f-16 within visual range dogfighting. I guess they know more than you or I. I am not trained to observe at these airshows what makes this jet a killer. Peace brother.

      Yes, I think you missed the part @7:55 when it spun 180° mid air with an airspeed of 0. Other demos, the aircraft shoots off like a rocket after he puts it into reheat. That stop-and-go is something that no F-22 or Sukhoi can do.

      Alexander V. While I agree that no f-4 could do a pedal turn, the f22 performs a pedal turn and tail slide so the raptor certainly has the upper hand when it comes to zero airspeed maneuvers

      jars6230 they’re capable of doing 0 airspeed during airshows but idk if it’s practical in a combat scenario...you’d have to ask a real pilot tho

      @@timothylittlefield3129 Actually it`s the opposite. The F-35 rely on mechanical stealth (body and paint) with is useless. A lot of the planes are grounded due to that the paint peel of when the plane goes supersonic. The Gripen relies on electronically and computer enhanced stealth with is cheaper, more reliable, more upgradable and most important stealthier. Ask the Nato planes that out of nowhere had a Gripen at their side and never saw it coming.
