I'm not sure why I waited until now to actually listen to the podcast. But here are a bunch of quotes from Simon regarding beta reprint: "We need to be incredibly careful and pragmatic about how we do that." "We are very guarded and careful about how we do that." "We are not printing into oblivion to generate revenue. Its not our style." "We want to give payers and store the stock that they need" "Not having availability for beta is a big turn off for stores. They feel like they missed out and cant generate player activity in their stores as well." "I'm going to say we do have another reprint of beta planned. We are going to be quite careful about how that gets out there." Its sounds to me they are very much in touch with what is going on and are focused on the health of the game and the business. The fact a few people heard "reprint" and NOTHING ELSE is crazy.
bingo, but people ignore all the words that come before "reprint" in that interview and just start screaming and never stop, thinking if they keep doing it maybe the big bad reprint will go away, but you know who's really going away? potential players and collectors looking in to the game and seeing chaos, trolling, and a flood of negativity. good job, gg well played.
Exactly and that was my point feom the beginning. Most people debating on the subject did not listen to the original podcast at all (99.9% of people do not listen to a 2 hours podcast). Most people debate on the word "reprint" that they heard from someone who know someone that might have listened partially the podcast. Good point ;)
Bro the comment section on this video is wild. Keep sharing your thoughts. Don’t listen to people. Alpha will be fine tho. People who wanted things to be worth money 2 years in don’t get it. Goal of this game should be to be around in 10 years
Players that just want a game don't realize that the game's collectability directly effects the game's future. If there is no value in the cards, no value in the boxes, and no demand for paying a premium for specific cards, the game will die. If players want to keep playing and keep the new cards coming in there HAS to be collectability to the release.
I havent seen any signs of overprinting. People are panicking over nothing causing some expensive singles to go down. When those singles go down some timmy says "I lost money investing in sorcery -> the game must be dead"
I checked the singles for Arthurian Legends non-foils the other day. They still seem pretty good, overall, considering the 'overprinting' panic of the last month.
Nice video! I just don't understand why people are making noise about reprints. I mean they clearly stated that they do NOT want to overprint, and this is the main mission of Eric, and that they have the intention of doing a reprint once the demands are sufficient. If we want people to get into Sorcery, we need more products and we need them to acces to the core set (meaning beta). I see it like it will finally be a possibility to have local products in Canada and I am sure some other countries too.
As someone who has a foil alpha set...ive just tuned out of all the negatively atm. This is a problem for all new CCGs, the fine balance between keeping collectors happy, but not growing the game due to no supply vs overprinting. The one set per year also hurts this balancing act more. One thing though is Eric is not stupid...so im sure things will level back out again
I m not seeing this dump you seem to mention on tcg player on alpha foils and alpha BBs. Can you provide more examples because it surely doesn t seem like people are dumping alpha stuff
The dumping I have seen has been occurring on eBay and Facebook Marketplace. A search for completed items using Sorcery Alpha Foil will generate a lot of hits. Now, is eBay or Facebook Marketplace a good gauge of the market? That’s a different question for a different day. Still, there are deals to be had on those sites.
What happened to the hoarding behind on the bookcase? The only people unhappy are the investbros and the scalpers who are upset they have to sell stuff earlier and for cheaper. I m buying the dip... I m a collector not an "investor in cardboard" because nobody invest in cardboard unless their name is Timmy. I invest in fungible stuff like sp500 etfs not in cardboard. I have about 30 grands in Sorcery but do I care if prices go down now? nope because the game is only 2 years old. Collecting worth takes decades...unless you are a clown investbro
I have two unopened Alpha boxes that I bought at $750 and I opened a case of Alpha and have put my good cards into cases and put them away. Not selling. I like the artwork and it is stored with my Alpha and Beta MTG....
So it’s a good time to buy Alpha at bargain prices. Last time I picked up several Alpha foils was before Beta release. Yes the Beta release that was supposed to tank Alpha last November.
Some of the Alpha prices were probably a bubble so it makes sense that they came down. I’m also not sure that the beta issue has as much of an impact on this as we think other than it’s just shaken people up and made people aware of the fact of the reality of the situation. It’s a natural life cycle kind of thing. Alpha and Beta in this game are intrinsically linked because other than the Frank F cards they are exactly the same set… unless you keep a magnifying glass in your pocket. It’s really, really a non-interesting product to players who just want game pieces, more competitive folks and so forth.
Alpha decreases because of the Beta reprint?? Makes no sense... maybe a single flipper just wanted to sell their Foil Stone quickly and get out. I would like to hear your opinions on this... how the Beta reprint affected Alpha? BTW the tell at the beggining of the video volume is just too high :), btw I tried to find the "closed listing" for Alpha Foil Stone in ebay, but I can't seem to find the same you mention. a honest positive suggestion (that requires a bit more editing) is if you saw this and have a screenshot, this type of information would be nice to be added in the video... thank you.
I was following that foil alpha stone... At the end of auction, I was also reminded that it was relisted, with no reason why the transaction didn't go through. So, as low as it might have ended, it was cancelled.
I don't think so. Most of the 1st Summer wave were sent overseas as he said. Those companies or Indvidual's then sold them to the US. Flooding the US with more boxes. The US stock which he stated would arrive with AL, did arrive with AL. And as stated, he said they reserve the right to print more as needed.
@” this is, again a very limited reprint, focused on LGS support” Stores were limited to a case, while TC received over 15,000 boxes. You can verify this be creating unique ID’s and adding boxes to your cart on TC’s website. The summer reprint was larger than the initial first wave of product.
@ I first got hints of this through my Chinese friends. But you can verify if you want - it’s pretty easy to do. Use a proxy service to create unique ID’s and check out boxes on TC’s website. See when they limit out. I dare you. I stopped with it hit over 15,000 boxes on cart. It’s all a lie. Plain and simple. They never sell out. EC has been printing to demand and using Team Covenant as an intermediary to hide this fact.
I would love to see more stores brought into supporting the game. If they could do something like discount to a store kit of Beta for new stores, that would be a wise use of the reprint. Expanding the coverage would make it worth the "devaluing" due to additional product.
They actually announced that they are working on introductory store kits with Beta and AL at SorceyCon, so this is hopefully going to materialize soon.
Yeah because devaluing their product is what makes store excited to carry it. They surely would love to get stuck with devalued boxes they will lose money on.
@@silverwolf6866 I don't know how short term your perspective of value is, but there is still value to be found in the boxes. Not everything is sold online at loss and are sold in physical stores where people can actually play the game. Even though AL can be played in a limited format, Beta I would consider superior as an entry point for new players due to set size and preconstructed decks. Making them available will help new stores with a new game. Online-only vendors that hope to flip for a quick buck are not really helping anyone when they need to free up cash flow for the next fad and dump online.
Can we just face the fact that Alpha prices were absolutely wild for a 2 year old game with so few players??? I mean, who in their right mind would spend $10,000 on an alpha stone… 2 year old game…. Any smart investor, and that is basically who buys something at that value, would wait cause FOR SURE that price is coming down, lmao They are the same except for a little set symbol on the card and printed within a year of on another hahah alpha and beta are basically the same set except a few cards. Alpha should come down.
Bro you completely missed me mentioning the giveaway contest in the community Facebook group and collector arthouse discord. Madonne!! Ok back to listening
The elephant in the room that absolutely no one seems to be talking about (likely due to how politically polarizing it is) is that it's expected in January to have an across the board tariff added to Chinese exports. that $150 MSRP Beta reprint box is probably going to now be at least $165/box (assuming the talked about 10% tariff) by the time it's shipped to distribution in the U.S. How much demand is there for it at that price point? Same goes for the Dragon set, and every future release from EC if they continue to use their Chinese printing partner.
No one is talking about it because there is no tariff yet. Trump barely got any tariffs done in his last administration and wasn’t the most effective president at getting done what he wanted. I won’t hold my breath for 25% tariffs. If they come, then I am sure they will be the talk of the town
@@IneptCardCollector Why is that? You understand how tariffs work, yes? So the price increase is going to be absorbed by EC and not consumers? I mention it as a hypothetical, not reality, but if you only want to consider it after the tariffs are implemented then so be it, but I can assure you if EC is paying attention, like every other business doing business in USA, they should be thinking about this and how it could affect them.
Another video encouraging the negativity that you are complaining about! A reprint even if it comes next summer will be an excellent warmup for the next set likely to come out early Q4 2025. Remember that current collector and player base is still very small. We need a major influx of new players and collectors. That requires more supply - boxes not singles. Your suggestion that a new set will do that is clearly incorrect since if EC floods the market with the new set next year then there will be endless complaints about too much supply just like we have had with AL! Much better to have a controlled supply of the new set next year in parallel with additional supply of Beta.
I agree. I think Alpha was overpriced to begin with, and was due for a correction even without the reprint announcement. I disagree about financial value with collectability. I used to work for the Bradford group decades ago. They sold all kinds of collectibles, and most of that is just stuff that sits on peoples' mantles. Plenty of people have had to deal with collectibles from loved ones who have passed on, and most of that stuff is only worth something to a select few. Collectible in terms of a CCG really only means that the game pieces have to be searched out. The games in the past that are worthless don't suddenly stop being CCGs when the value disappears. I can appreciate that there should be some monetary value, but it seems like there is a disconnect about how much it should be worth considering how short an amount of time this game has been on the market. Old school magic cards didn't start having value until years after they came out. Moxes and Lotus were still $30 over a year after they came out.
