As a young person I used to hate Hussain Haqqani, Asma Jahangir and other anti-establishment ppl. But now when I am in my thirties I can see that these ppl were thinking way ahead of time.

Hussain Haqqani works for Hudson Institute, which describes itself on their website as «Hudson Institute is a research organization promoting American leadership for a secure, free, and prosperous future.» Fair enough, but American interests are not always Pakistans interests. But a very much needed podcast indeed. People know him through the military’s narrative of him being a traitor which people no longer buy. We needed to hear this mans own voice. Thank you.

He will defend his treachery in the name of realism and corruption in the name of "reconciliation." He is against the very basis of Pakistan. Very disappointed with Faisal. You are a well read man and did not question this gentleman view. For example when he said states are visionless why not question about Israel , when he says in democracy’s you have to comprise and there is no right and wrong, why not question this only applies in developed word as democracy is backed by moral values. China,turkey,Singapore all progressed when they had to decide what is right and what is wrong there is no in between.

Secularists and liberals' myopic perspective renders their so called intellectualism fumbling in the face of the state vacuum (leadership absence and ambiguity) invariably leaving them blame everything on Islam and unchecked islamic intervention in politics as a way of channelising inner biase against theocracy and Islamic constitution.
What do they say? One size doesn't fit all, why don't these pseudo secularists come up with ingenious and applicable ideas to present a better image of theocracy in practice? Instead of blaming every downfall on Islam!

I think what he should be doing is to corner people on corruption issue. Somehow, people in Pakistan are willing to condone corruption, as it's no big deal. Haqqani here again is defending the corrupt, using silly excuses, and want the country to give a clean chit to people like Zardari and Nawaz Sharif in the name of "reconciliation."

@@sundaramkumar4041 You might be partly correct, but I think the source of all these problems is dynastic politics which breeds corruption. Because the politicians were corrupt, It gave the military an opportunity to interfere in politics and thus became corrupt itself. The solution is to usher in honest political leadership, and Imran Khan is presently the best candidate.
The good thing is that there is now greater awareness among people. The system has been fully exposed and people just need to find the spine to rise up and overturn it. It is a proverbial battle between good and evil. And hopefully the good will prevail.
Don't go by what Haqqani says. He is a cowardly hypocrite. Every time I hear him talk on UA-cam or TV, I begin to understand how so few Britishers were able to rule a vast territory from Burma to Afghanistan for almost two hundred years! There were no more than 60,000 Britishers in all of India. But they dominated a population of 350 million people who could have easily overthrown them. Unfortunately, many are born in our countries to serve white people. They suffer from inferiority complex and will hurt or even kill their own people to serve their masters. After independence, the local elite who were put in power by the British took on the mantle, and they assumed the role of the Britishers. They stay in power by intermarrying within their own families, bribing, and through petty cronyism. They initially thought that a Westernized Imran Khan was one of them, and they helped him come to power, but once they realized that Imran Khan has gone through a spiritual and moral conversion and is challenging the status quo, they overthrew him. No matter what Haqqani says, he is for the status quo. He has supported the most corrupt politicians in Pakistan. He speaks out against Pakistan Army but took money from it to lobby against Imran Khan in the United States. He is probably one of the most hated people in Pakistan.
What an interview Faisal. Hussain Haqqani is a true intellectual but unfortunately, what we did to him is what we do to every serious intellectual who has solid knowledge of global politics. Faisal you have have created some enemies with this since majority of Pakistanis cannot deal with truth.
