    A good piece of engineering 108 years ago, I bet this replacement steel bridge is costing NYMR a few bob. I live in Scarborough and love visiting this heritage railway, love the live cameras, maybe this year we could have a live camera at Pickering station. Good luck with the work, hope the weather holds.

      Hi John, how do we get on the live cameras? Thanks. Chris

    Now thats one mighty crane in operations there, quite an operation to replace the brige, sounded a bit to windy for the crane though !!! nice work , Steve B .

    Makes us appreciate just how ground breaking those early railway engineers were - they had hundreds of spans to make over gaps on routes.

    A very enterprising railroad. A challenge to get the crane there and set up. What is the object (building?) in silhouette on the skyline at 45 to 50 seconds?

      The object at 45 secs is an Air Force radar listening station for ballistic missile launches and tracking objects in space.

    Nice little film. What camera and lens did you use?

    What will happen to the original bridge now it has bee removed. Will it be used on a heritage trail somewhere or just cut up ?

      They had started to cut it up on Wednesday. So, guess it will go for scrap.

      Scrap makes sense, better to recycle the material if deemed to be requiring replacement - it wouldn't much use as a bridge

      It’s a shame that the Newbridge will not have as much character as this old bridge did in fact that all that riveting must’ve taken them ages years ago to have built the bridge

    Shame that Cleveland Bridge couldn’t do it

    Time the entire line was dualled and then extended to Rillington again. York to Whitby steam hauled? I reckon even a sixth form economics student could make that pay.

    Did not realise that 24 was two single track bridges is the other half to be left insitu. When was 25 lifted out?

    • @nymrfootage
      @nymrfootage  3 роки тому +4

      I think the other unused single track bridge at 24 us being left in situ as no track will be laid. Much the same was they did with Bridge 26 two years ago in Goatlhand station. However i've not been at Goathland since Wednesday to see.

      @@nymrfootage I'm assuming that as there is no operational reason to use the unused span, it follows that operationally there's little if any reason to replace it.

      @nymrfootage  3 роки тому +2

      @@stephenhunter70 yes. There was no track over the unused span. I believe it was lifted in BR days

    At 7.44 typical how when bridge is in field, four guys stroll along hands in pockets to stare down hole. What was their function??

      strange criticism of people doing a job. not everyone has a welder in one hand and a hammer in the other
