So It has become aware to me that the "Swallow method" is harmful long term. I only used this to get a feeling for the muscles that raise the larynx at the very begining of my journey and I agree it should not be used long term!

Yes it is... And it's very bad, cause if you do try swallow method.. It hurts a lot in your throat and not only that, a person can have serious trouble having food or even drinking water! The reason I know this is because I've been interested in voices for a long time (I've been practicing for about 9 years now), and I took fancy of cartoon characters and tried to imitate their voices a lot.. Although I didn't practice it professionally at that time, but I did become versatile at changing my voice pretty easily! And honestly, since I didn't have any guide, I never tried the swallow method, but later when I started thinking this as a carrier option, I started professional training, and that's when I came to know about the swallow method! I tried it myself and for me, it was not at all a very good experience... And a lot of people might feel the same as well! So, it's better to practice in a safe method :)

The goal is to understand how your voice works and to understand the ways the different voicings work. It takes many months/years and is not really something to just use as a card trick. I feminize my voice to reduce gender dysphoria.

A message + some tips to any MtFs wanting to fem their voice from someone who's trained their voice for 10 years and went to voice therapy with a professional for voice feminisation:
remember to drink water, rest, and take small chunks of exercises; it's better to have 5 min exercises 3x a day than 15min ++ one-time study then later prolong your ability to speak fem. IT SHOULD NOT HURT.
Use your diaphragm and airflow NOT solely rely on your larynx it will strain it. Only gently raise it, but yes, in the beginning, you will focus on being able to control it, but don't focus on this as in the video, it mostly pitch (don't recommend the swallow method use a straw and water instead of blowing into it making bubbles raising your pitch underwater). You can sound like the author here, but even they are speaking from the upper parts of the respiratory system and larynx. This will strain you long-term regardless of how gentle you are, so again, speak from the diaphragm. It's basically talking like you are imitating a voice vs. speaking your own feminine voice.
Resonance is what makes it passable; ever heard of a woman with a deep, sexy voice, but it's still feminine? yeah, that resonance, is basically how your vocal range is within a range, and it's more important to flow your words than actually make them sound right. Be kind to yourself and be patient. I could, for a long time (trained for years on my own + YT videos), speak perfectly fem, but because of strain, I had to stop and re-learn my true voice and how I can use it properly. Some medication also dries out your spit production, so again, remember to lubricate and take breaks.
If you feel your larynx is irritated or tired, a way to de-stress is yawning (again gently without activating too much of your tongue).
Warm-up exercise: use a straw, and gently, with a raised voice, blow into it. Another way is to make rising gently but loudly A E U I O sound like AAAAAAaaaaaaaaaa (think of silk, and again, it should not hurt). Now you will, at some point, hurt a little bit here and there Don't freak out it's not dangerous we just want to minimise this. Just take a break (even for days) and remember to love yourself during the process. Stress and negativity actually affect this. You can use apps that see your Hz range to see what range you are in and also record yourself. It can be beneficial to see what words or sounds you start lowering at.
Mimic study feminine voices you think are beautiful in a way that teaches you how to lower and raise your intonation so you don't speak flat. However, don't try to mimic their voice type; you can, but you will be straining yourself. This is why I say do it from the diaphragm (imagine breathing in from the nose, filling the lower parts of your lungs/stomach up and speaking out gently from the air that comes from your diaphragm).
The tongue should be resting and flowing, posture loose but upright. Try to keep your tongue less in the hard palette (top near your teeth), as this will make you sound nasal, especially if you have a blocked nose. Keep it at the bottom or on the soft palette, aka further back relaxed (it's natural to have it on the hard palette if you have an overbite, but essentially just don't strain your tongue forcing it up, dw about it).
Now I understand this is a lot of information, and practice and loving determination is key. Practice one area at a time, like just doing warm-ups and then reading a small bit of text or just simple sounds.
Don't try to tackle everything in one go and acknowledge it's not going to be perfect straight away, but you will get there eventually.
    Good luck ♥

I'm so glad I clicked on this video.
I've spent 2 years diligently engaging and understanding "the instrument" so I can do voice over work of the "Morgan Freeman narrator" type.
I'm shocked at how much I've progressed, but 20% of it came from a ton of small observations, while 80% came from a handful of major "a-ha" moments. This is one of them.
I just spent the last few hours applying this new insight into both speaking and singing and wow, what a difference! Thank you so much.
The part about the larynx movement (swallowing, yawning, and the muscles) was great and new to me, but point #2 is what made something 'click': going low in order to go high (and vice versa).
What I specifically did was sing hard-to-hit high notes from a lower physical location within the instrument (skull). I also tried a "narrator" voice while focusing the resonance in a higher location than normal, until I found the sweet spots. It works wonders. I feel like this is how the voice was meant to be used. Balanced, supported, and rich.
It's the concept of Yin and Yang.
I once heard of a ballet dance coach who trained the dancers to firmly root themselves in the ground doing heel exercises, and counterintuitively, this created a bounce-back effect of sorts that gave them a lift and an airy movement to glide through the stage. Now I understand why the next day after lots of singing my voice is all "crunchy" and sounds effortlessly deep.
The guys who sound like 'tryhards' (me all my life) make the mistake of wanting to sound 'deep' by focusing that resonance bubble in a low area, near the throat. But to truly bring out the quality, charm and warmth in your deep (Yang) voice, you need that little dot of Yin. Likewise, for beautiful high-note singing (Yin), you need the support from that dot of Yang.
    Today's a good day.

The larnyx is a series of cartilagenous structures that house the vocal folds. The laryngeal prominence (Adam's apple) is just one part of a structure that makes up the larnyx.
You are conflating size, pitch, and pronunciation. They are different sound features.
    Cadence relates to rhythm.
Focusing on anatomy is faulty. There are over a hundred involved in speech, you can't direct those muscles; trying to do so leds to maladaptive results people over engage and that produces.
Vocal muscles aren't shown to experience hypertrophy like your biceps. Voice learning isn't about building strength. It's about learning to recognize sound features and change their qualities.
There are people who would be served in increasesing their vocal function either they may have something like swallowing disorder or being a vocal underdoer.
I would suggest you look into the concepts of size, weight, and fullness.Having nothing on vocal weight or fullness is a mistake.

Hi 👋 i practice the girl voice myself every day, and counting 1 to 10 is a good warm-up or saying the days of the week like sun, then day, but get the day part to go up and with the practice and moving the resonance from chest to a head voice your adams apple 🍎 naturally will disappear from practicing and when the resonance is moved up higher then I'll be more of a forward in the mouth and you do a great job as well and anyone can do it just takes time and practice and keep up the good work to helping others as well.

I want this so bad so i can commit various acts of tomfoolery. But what i dont understand is how you get your voice to not sound like your normal. And am i meant to strain my neck when try to keep my larynx in the top of my throat? This is really difficult

quick question. and a bit of tmi i guess? i was born intersex female, but most mistake me as a guy because my voice "sounds male" my pitch is pretty normal although a little low, at about 200 hz if not higher at times (i dont have a good way to measure it) i was hoping you could shed some light on what i should do, since im a girl, but sound like a guy. anything helps ofcourse and your video was super helpful.

This may sound really cringe but I learned by talking to randoms on valorant everyday until it became believable by around 1 and a half months

I always have trouble trying to get this kind of voice. Even though I have been singing for years and can mimic a female voice when singing along, I can never do it on my own XD. It's like when I sing the muscles work but when not, the muscles become confused. Like I am a baritone, but I can hit 8 octaves except for the two extremes on a piano.

So, wait, are you telling me...
    Swallow, hold, hold, hold.. release
    Yawn, hold, hold, hold.. release
Will eventually teach me to control it?
How long should I hold? Obviously breathing while holding is difficult, but was an ex-diver, I can hold breath for a very, very long time.

Also, am I supposed to be able to breathe while keeping larynx up? If so, any tips?
