Awesome write up. I've hiked it two times in the past two weeks. I can't get enough of it. I've never seen an area as beautiful as this. would love to climb that with you sometime!!
Glad to hear it! I live in North Jersey so I don't get to go very often but I always try to go once or twice every Memorial Day and Labor Day Weekends, every year. How's the water level up there compared to this video? We're pretty dry down here but not nearly as bad as 3 weeks ago.
+Dahill Road the flow wqs good. not too much and not dry. Some spots you c9uld see the low water. Check out my Facebook page for pictures of the hike. and here too on Google Street view: Check out Platte Clove Preserve - Catskill Center on #StreetView - www.google.com/maps/@42.1156455,-74.0581936,0a,75y/data=!3m5!1e1!3m3!1s-S5cplnG0lJo%2FV5fEvXTsyPI%2FAAAAAAAAEwk%2FPSw25PYcTywJBH293Z5tYdSJjgMnhfmLQCLIB!2e4!6s%2F%2Flh4.googleusercontent.com%2F-S5cplnG0lJo%2FV5fEvXTsyPI%2FAAAAAAAAEwk%2FPSw25PYcTywJBH293Z5tYdSJjgMnhfmLQCLIB%2Fno%2Fphoto.jpg
love going here. have never been passed "evergreen falls" but did go five times this summer. went two weeks ago was very dry, falls had almost disappeared. let me know if you make it again this year!! would love to do full climb
+Sonny Obhan I just might be up there! Depends on the weather if it freezes over I don't have the right equipment for that. Evergreen is probably my favorite cascade! Just hard to get to time-wise since it's right at the midway point from either direction
+OhWhatA Mike I appreciate the nice thoughts! I'd say it's about 3 miles but a rough 3 miles and about a 1300 ft gain that really accelerates in the second half. Make sure to account for any road walking you'd have to do
+Dahill Road Wow thats a decent amount of elevation for the short amount of milage, but thanks for the response ! ill be sure to check it out some'time soon
I park at the top at Devil's Kitchen DEC or Platte Clove Preserve roadside parking. It's best if you park up top and get a ride down to the bottom. No legal parking down there. The day I took this video I dropped my buddy off at the bottom, drove up top, parked, and ran all the way down Platte Clove road to meet back up with him. Fun times. It takes 3 to 5 hours depending on water level. There are NO marked trails though there is a well-established path along the lower half of the Creek. In the upper half keep your eyes open for routes along the rocks and stay on the creek whenever possible. "Red Alley" is deceptively dangerous so it's best to do a small bushwhack to the left to get past. Passing Japanese Falls is extremely dangerous and demands your full attention to get back to the creek directly above these Falls and to the bottom of Hell's Hole. Hope this helps!
Thanks for all of the information. I'm curious if there are any other river traces that you know about in the north east? I'm particularly interested in what can be done without abseiling but offers elevation gain and chances to swim / jump. Sadly, I'm only familiar with Taiwan's canyons. Was never interested in this when I lived around here. We don't have much but there's bound to be more in the catskills/white mountains. Any additional info would be appreciated. Feel free to PM me if you're willing to share.
Could you post the names of all the falls? Like times, then the names? I know most of the big falls but the smaller ones I don't really know the names of them. Like at 20 seconds in and ect. Thanks man!! Or PM me on the Catskill Mountaineer site!!
Where do you get the names for these? Slippery Shelves? That is red falls. Grey Rock Falls? That is the corner hole, and you climbed up the dumb way. Go back 100 Ft and you can climb up easy. Great video though I can tell you don't live down the road like me :)
Highly informative and quality video. Thanks for sharing and well done

also we park at the bottom outside the last house before the fence. the lady there was very sweet
Hey Great Video with an incredible amount of information , thanks for that ! Do you have a rough estimate of how many Miles the whole hike takes?
