I had the pleasure of meeting and playing Jude this past May on my Birthday! It was all I wanted to do on my birthday lol. He is a phenomenal player and a wonderful conversationalist. We played 4 games and then talked for an hour afterward. If you ever have the opportunity to visit the French quarter, you must visit Jude and get a lesson.
Don't knock this guy! I have a small story, and yes, Jude is a legend of a sort, in a good way. I played him fifty years ago in Fort Lauderdale at an exhibition. Of several dozen games mine was the only one he didn't win. I had a q-side passer in a winning Q+P ending, but I was happy as a clam with a draw (I offered), good because we were alone for quite a while... It was gonna be a loooong game, too! The point is that I think he really did 'save his life with chess' and loved it completely for a whole lifetime, including travelling all over the place. Even back then everyone in our little corner of the chess world knew who he was - everyone. (I was mildly famous for a while from that game!)
I have gone to Nola, and every time I tell people the best experience is being on Jackson and enjoying Jude Acers constant stories and conversation. Legend is almost an understatement.
I drive almost 3 hours today to new orleans to try to find somebody to llay with on the street, and I was pleasantly surprised to find Jude Acers. I didnt really know about him, but we ppl layed, he gave me great pijnters and we talked for hours. he has amazing stories and is friends with or played with any top chess player you cna name from even before Bobby Fischers time. I find him to be very encouraging to new ppl layers and very hopeful about the future of chess. I was extremely honored to be able to play with him. Please pay this man a visit, because I knkw Ill be returning regularly.
Just met Jude tonight and had the pleasure of playing him. I hadn’t heard of him before, but you can tell this guy is just really observant and knowledgeable. Great wisdom, and he complimented my curiosity and called me considerate, which was extremely cool!
Bailey has the right mindset for chess more players should play chess because they love it. As a social thing. Not to be competitive or make money. There’s nothing wrong with FIDE and being competitive and all that but the true heart of chess is friendship not to compete against each other for a championship or money
The first system i ever learned in chess was a book written be Jude Acers called "The Italion Gambit: A guiding Repertoire for White" I have played it ever since!! I'm going to meet him and get an autographed book
Hey! I have to imagine that there are many street chess players throughout the United States. MIAMI San Francisco Dallas. Continue this series and find every single street chess corner of this beautiful country and beyond. These are great little documentaries on the people who love chess just as I do
Just discovered this. The girl here is Baylee Bladaway. In the newest Interview with the Vampire series, an actress named Bailey Bass beats the vampire at chess. In New Orleans. Hmmm. Wierd similarities.
Jeez. Like your life ever had any meaning to begin with? How do you survive with your cold dead heart? Btw. You are dripping with your deranged envy. JUDE IS THE BEST!!!
Proud member of the Downriver Chess Club!

Jude is an awesome person and player...
Thanks for this. I see him often. This humanizes what's behind the game face. Good choice in local musical sounds, too.

My husband and I had the chance to meet Mr. Acer while we was in New Orleans and he is a wonderful guy with such great character.
Fantastic. I hope to play him someday.
Just come visit. He sets up on the street asking a paltry sum to play him.
Simply great ....!
Awesome documentary!

Need to get out there
Chess make you happy!🙏
Nice man ty
THIS IS REAL CHESS. NOT THE FIDE BS.
tf? fide just provides the real competitive side to chess, where your abilities can be translated to numbers
I also play chess to deal my existential anxiety and depression after I survived cancer. It provides a way to not think about unsolvable things.
I live in Texas, I gotta take a trip to Narlins
I didn’t know that Benny Hill is so good at chess
New Orleans is the best chesstination
