    Very useful. One really good thing I am seeing here and in all your videos is how your left shoulder moves up very high as you continue the downswing through and past contact. You have spoken about getting the chest up. But it is also the tip of the left shoulder. My pro was pushing me hard on this last week. It is to overcome an unconscious tendency I have had when trying to concentrate on rotation of the hips that I also turned my left shoulder too horizontally. That causes early extension, reaching out with the forearms. He wants me to do exactly what I see you doing - bringing the right elbow down bent and close to the right hip, left wrist bowed and right wrist bent back in extension, and then allowing the momentum of the weight of the club head to continue on toward the target so my left shoulder is up and my hands finish high. Moving like that also makes it easier to combine with getting the left hip forward past "the wall" and letting the right knee come up to the left knee. Here I am at 82 on June 17 learning how to swing better!! Thanks.

    Excellent!! I spent so much time trying to get ball first contact and it took me literally thousands of balls to realize that I was early extending and now I reached the stage when I know immediately when I have early extended and it’s so frustrating knowing exactly what you are doing wrong but not knowing how to fix it.
    This instruction really seems to do it!

    My feel is that your trail shoulder has to race past the ball before the club face. We amateur focus too much on the BALL. As your shoulder races down past the ball, your left hip should clear for impact.

    My best ball striking has always been when I have a sensation of going down into the ball, just like you're teaching - such an overlooked aspect. Hold those angles and let centrifugal force square that club head. PS you have fantastic rhythm and tempo.

    Something I observed in my own swing and those of most recreational golfers, especially older ones, is a lack of side bending of the spine in the downswing and through impact.
    I first realized I wasn’t doing after seeing stop action photos of pros taken from behind at impact and seeing how much their spine was bent to the trail side at impact. It was by posing myself in that impact/ball release position and then moving incrementally backwards to the top I came to understand how that side bending action shallows and straightens the path of the club head versus a swing lacking it. My ball striking improved significantly.
    The biomechanics are very similar to throwing a ball to the ground sidearm, which most throwing a ball do with side bend reflexively because is part of the reflexive brains solution for staying in balance while delivering the ball to a target in front. So why do golfers fail to do it reflexively? I suspect it has something to do with how putting the swinging mass of the club head on the end of a stick changes the way the unschooled reflexive brain tries but fails to deal with the unbalancing forces.
    For example in golf swing with no side bend the brain can’t react fast enough to the change in force which occurs when a club head is allowed to first drop before releasing and accelerating around the hands. That’s why the beginner will either cast early or try to main the lag too long resulting in the club force pulling them off balance. What adding side bend at the point the shoulders come back parallel to target line does is drop hands and club head down and forward toward the target line before the forces try to whip it around the hands which positions the body in a way that anticipates the change is force in a way that allows the golfer to balance it-the same way the side-bending in a ball toss anticipates the mass of the trail arm being flung forward at the target.
    Once the side bend move is added into a swing previously lacking it the golfer can add progressively more force and power into releasing and accelerating the club head around the hands before impact without being pulled out of posture and off balance in the finish.

    Hey, great video, I'm going to have my friends look at this. They are newer, and I think the thought of swinging into the ground scares them a little. I, on the other hand, with driver, lower and do a kind of squat in my backswing, my head dropping about 6-8 inches. I do a bit of a JT jump through impact, which raises my head up to around 3 inches, but never higher than where I started. This feels comfortable to me. Is the window where the head position really critical from arm or club parallel through impact?

    • @CraigHansonGolf
      @CraigHansonGolf  Рік тому +1

    Hey coach I think your off here. My head goes down and my hips go back. My head stays the same amount out (by the wall). My legs have a little lateral shift with a slight bend.
    Despite this I still suck at golf. My juiced iron set (Taylor made m4) doesn’t go far (pw 110), I don’t have a lot of shaft lean.

    • @CraigHansonGolf
      @CraigHansonGolf  Рік тому +1

      Put it this way if your lifting up in the downswing or impact golfer’s have absolutely no chance creating shaft lean.
      If your doing all these things correct like you say you still have no shaft lean then you would be hitting every shot fat? Agree?
      Because if you’re closer to the ball then you started and have zero shaft Lean and 3 inches of lowering, then of course you would have to hit it fat?
