- The second order in a row where our #psagraded gem rate has dropped from a reliable 30-40% to an abysmal 10%. #thehobby #psa #psagradedcards #gradedcards #jordan #shaq ##sportscards #sports #nba #basketballcards
I feel like if PSA CANT justify their grades and remain consistently inconsistent then it turns into a lottery. F that, go Beckett
Def plan to give them a try! Stay tuned :)
8.5?! wow hahah cool channel, subbed
Appreciate the support!! Thanks my man
The tidalwave of cards they've getting from Gamestop probably has something to do with it. Another factor is that they are even more stricter with centering... it's a perfect storm. This is just another video in a long list of i've recently seen pop up complaining about the accuracy of their grading.
But yeah, if you can't get your value out of grading you absolutely need to go somewhere else.
Yeah! I’ve been seeing posts and videos echoing this as well. I would assume BGS starts to get more flow in response.
12:06 might as well keep asking though! We'd all like more transparency from PSA.
It would be nice. They’ve started to add grader notes to higher end services I’ve read.
I feel your pain, I'll never send a card to PSA. At least Beckett provides their grading, is it too much to ask, PSA? Too many videos of guys resubmitting to PSA and receiving a different grade. C ya
Yes! That’s the whole point. If I crack these and send them in the grades are different. Not going to do that but it’s the truth
All those jordan all stars were left right offcenter on the backs
PSA allows 75/25 centering on the back for a 10
Yeah this☝️I have so many 10s with off center backs.
Feel you pain
Sent a 65 card order , one 10 …. lol
Fucking insane…
Lol fuck using PSA
Your lighting is atrocious dude.
Looks like PSA upgraded their standards for front centering for a 10. Their standards used to say 55/45 to 60/40 for front centering, but it now only references 55/45 centering on the front. The back centering still allows for 75/25
#TheHobbyist
Psa downgraded my 2011 ud exquisite klay thompson auto from a sgc 10 10 auto to psa p9. Slight Centering was the reason? But noooooo
I say this as someone who also rips junk wax boxes to try to gem Jordans and other RC/inserts. I think PSA grading is actually more accurate now than ever. Think about "old slabs" from PSA - they command less value because the grading standards were frankly easier. I won't even consider SGC because their grading is easier, IMO. So to me, to get a GEM 10 from PSA from a new submission actually MEANS something. Right now it means value boosting from grading is a sketchy proposition, but I wonder if the hobby will catch up to this and GEM 10's will increase in value going forward. Wish you all the best!
Thanks man! Same to you. Totally agree that the quality and consistency now compared to the old slabs is def better. Let’s just get some consistency here.
I recently got my sports cards from my parents attic...I probably have over 100 Jordan's and a handful of old baseball cards I got as Christmas presents ie Jackie Robinson Willie Mayes like stuff...thought about selling some, but after watching some UA-cam videos and the process of grading cards to get any sort of value for those cards is crazy...especially knowing those Jordan's are not 10s, you're not getting what you'd like for them. The same goes for the old cards...I mean some of them only need to be a 6 or 7 to be valuable, but I'm certain they'd come back at 2's...there's more value to hang on and pass onto my son. The modern grading system is nuts
Depending on the year of cards, and the player it makes sense to grade. SGC is a better option than PSA for vintage. I got submitted a 55 Topps Jackie and got a 2.5. That’s still $400 value. Like I said, depends on the player and the year.
If you are sending in stuff from the 80's and 90's, getting a 10 on 1 out of every 3 cards is considered good.
Thanks! Yeah I agree in principal but I’ve had a substantially higher gem rate on like pro Visions, fanimations etc so something seems different.
That card at 3:50 is clearly off centered on the back. Definitely not "mint".
PSA allows 75/25 centering on the back for a 10 (Gem Mint)
Nice video you should have a light more behind you than to the side cause of the reflection making the slab dark
Your lighting is horrendous. You keep bringing the cards from the lighting into the shadowing when holding them near the camera.
Getting 8s on 80s and 90s cards is considered good. Getting a 9 is basically the same as Gem Mint for modern cards. And getting a 10 is one in 10 from my experience. So you did well with your submittal. They do pop control on 80s and 90s cards and are ridiculously hard on them. They use to be easier a few years ago. I've scratched my head many times getting 8s, but then realized a lot of people submit same cards and get 7 or lower, so I'm just thankful for an 8 🤷🏻♂️
Yeah, I think that’s generally accurate but some of these insets and white bordered 90s cards my gem rate was around 80% plus. Something has def changed.
There's probably more sexually frustrated graders
Do you use a magnifying glass when you're checking the cards? I see a lot of people on youtube complaining about grades but they're not looking at their cards with magnification.
Hey! Yeah use a jewelers loop for the corners and and scan the edges and surface for dents, scratches etc.
So your upset that you couldn't turn a $1 card into a $200 card. Why are you grading $1 cards in the first place.Your doing it for the money, your gambling.you lost.shut up and take the hit.go get a real job and stop trying to flip for a living.People like you ruin the hobby im glad you lost.
Haha
He might just do it as a side hustle.
Haha I appreciate the comment and just do it for fun. Trust me man, in previous videos I explicitly say don’t quit your day job 😂 But I think the broader point is that grading is supposed to be an objective science, and therefore not a gamble. Breaking the cards in 10 condition out of the box is the gamble. The inconsistency in what is supposed to be an objected process if where people get frustrated :)
Just collect bro! 👍👍👍
Cards should still be 10 if Off center there’s literally nothing wrong with the card it should just state OC (less than 60/40) EXOC (externally off, P (50/50 perfect) ROC (reverse off center)
It’s dumb a card can’t get a 10 because it doesn’t fall in line with something someone came up with to be considered a 10.
At the same point if you know that’s the standard then it’s on you to figure out the centering of the card you’re sending in
Here’s a tip. “Your” cards always look 👀 better to you..
Grading junk wax is so weird. Trying to create this false world of low-pop cards when there are hundreds and thousands of them. I can pick up a raw version that has the same eye appeal of a 10 for a few bucks - what are we even doing here?
And there aren't thousands of raw Wemby rookie cards? And at least with the 90's guys the value is going to be steady.
I think you did rather well considering those cards are from the 90’s. In addition, fix your lighting.
Nice video, I share your pain I just received my PSA Nov 16-30 1980-1999 Special and I also got cooked. 12 card submission and only 1 10. Stryker Breaks said on one of his videos recently that he used to Gem 70% of time and now he is down to 60% he speculates that PSA has tightened up on their tolerances
Interesting! Yeah something is changing.
Junk slab culture
It’s not worth it sending junk wax. I also do a mixture of ultra modern 2019 up and 2000-2019s (mix it up for the grader). I max out at 20 per submission in case I get a tough grader etc. Although my gem-rate has dropped too. I used to gem at 50-60%, my recent one was 40% (8/20). Send cards that if you got a 9 would still be worth it (SPs, autos, Lebron, Curry, Ohtani rookie etc.).
Yeah I think smaller batches are certainly the way to go
