With NewJeans there are no official roles like most groups. There is no main vocal, no lead vocal, no main dancer, no rapper, no lead dancer, etc. Their "roles" interchange depending on the song so there are no roles within NewJeans. Although there are no roles, a lot of people view Minji as the "unofficial" leader since she's the oldest.
Welcome to the world of NewJeans!! Everything about this group is unique (at least uncommon). They are the only group under their subsidiary, they do not have specific official positions assigned, their entire discography has official music videos and in fact they have more music videos than songs. Some of them, in addition to speaking Korean and English (ignoring Hanni who also speaks Vietnamese), also speak Japanese and many other things that you will discover along the way. 😀
One important thing to note is that some of their music videos have a side A and a side B, which form a complete story. It is advisable to look at both sides to understand the whole story. Some people have only reacted to one side or simply side B and in the end they don't understand anything lol
And as a group ambassadors for coke,nike,apple, south Korea tourism board, mcdonalds.. some other major ones I've forgotten right now as well.. oh calvein klein I think as well
A little advice: if you're going to continue listening to kpop learning how to read hangul (korean alphabet) will really make it easier to pronounce names and words. The romanization isn't always accurate. Don't worry though hangul is really easy to learn. It's a very logical system with very few exceptions and everything is pronounced as it is written. It took me less than 20 minutes to grasp it.
The only 2024 one I found was an Unhelpful guide. I chose this one as it was a longer guide so I figured it would have more information. I don't pre-screen guides

The 2024 version of the (un)helpful guide to newjeans is a lot better as its more up to date and accurate. Don't pay attention to that kpop profile one its completely innacurate and feels like it was filled in by someone who just wished they had the positions they had.. like some fanfic lol

Haerin is my bias in NewJeans. Just some help in pronunciations with their names: Hanni = Hah-ni Hyein = Hyeh-in Haerin - Hae-lin
Yea I read a few things aobut whats going on. It's crazy but I (not to sound insensitive or anything and mean no disrespect) wanted to learn about the group and hear their music so I will focus on that and not try to focus on the negative.

I'm not familiar with the entire situation so I can't really comment, however, I don't think idols should shy away from bringing matters to the public if they tried internally and never get a response. At the end of the day it's all business for not only the idols but the companies. I highly doubt they are the only group within the company to complain. They are probably the only group who spoke out publicly.
