Wow! I never noticed Gyarados in the top right corner until you mentioned it. Loving your interpretations on Pokémon art work. Refreshing. No one is talking about this on UA-cam that I've come across
I told my son it was gonna pass Iono for top chase in Paldea Evolved and now I'm sure it will be the top chase cad of this era. Crazy for an IR but speaks to how great the card is. This card was underrated and is kind of an extension of the Giratina from Lost Origin. If Artist Shinji Kanda keeps making these Rainbow black busy abstract background cards it could become a really big thing. I think it will ride the Giratina's coattails. It is fairly hard to pull, 1:480 packs or 1 per 13 booster boxes or over $1300 worth of boxes. Paldea Evolved was such a big set with so many illustration rare so to pull this card is just a little more difficult then most Scarlet & Violet Illustration rare.
I love this artwork! Can you make A top 10 S&V so far? for all of us who would like to invest in individual cards now before the era is over. This would be so nice
I feel super lucky to have pulled 2 Magikarps out of single packs. The first graded a PSA 10 and I'm sending the second one out this weekend. Fingers crossed! I do agree that it's overvalued though.
@@phillips.collectibles thanks mate. It’s much weaker than the copy that graded a 10 so I’m expecting an 8 or 9 but the grading cost is definitely worth the risk to potentially 7x the value of the card.
I think this card is rising because it’s really a great card, it looks fantastic I personally really like it. It’s also a meme card and the fact that it’s the same artist as lost origin Giratina makes it really funny and cool to have. I will for sure get it since I’m trying to complete paldea evolved. I really like this card and the rest of the set. Great content as always man!
I think it's a very good card. The Art style came from the Giratina Alt Art so no questions. Plus the red pops more with the background. Plus 2 of the most popular pokemon is in the illustration, Magikarp and Gyarados. The popularity came from underwhelming chase cards from succeeding sets. Enough Time has passed that we can safely pick it up. And the market agrees.
That Magikarp art is crazy 😍 The facts that it's such an infamous Gen1 Pokémon, the pre-evolution to Gyarados and obviously the fact that it's a very unique (When was the last Magikarp Full Art?) card are likely the reasons for it's price, it must also be a hard one to grade with all of the detail etc. Where the near 100% increase in price in 2 months came from I would like to know. Magikarp aside for a moment, it's such a good looking card, Shinji Kanda's work is incredible.
@@phillips.collectibles Haha, it wasn't, but it's grown on me. Will open a Booster Box of Paldea Evolved on the Channel at some point and wouldn't mind pulling it!
I need to pull this card ! I love it I want it in my collection but I am not paying $120 AUD for a raw copy ! Think it will come down if we get a reprint
i love to see it bro lol i pulled the magikarp like half a year ago from those annihilape boxes or it was that charizard box that came with the magnetic case i forgot lol but the karp was at like 40 at the time lol
@@phillips.collectibles nah bro i kept it i even bought the jp version on whatnot before paldea evolved even came out lol i would grade it but its a little oc but you never know id say its 60/40
Another point to see about this card being expensive is because the illustrator for magikarp is the same Illustrator as the giratina v alt art from lost origin
I pulled the Japanese card from Triplet Beat and picked up a second copy as PSA 10 because I love the artwork so much. I don't really care about the price, but it would be nice to see the Japanese version get as much attention as the English one. Do you think the Japanese card is developing independently, or is it influenced by the rising price of the English card?
The fates collide Alakazam reflects almost the same exact price points as a few weeks ago for the magicarp, thought the price is stable for Alakazam. Its very hard to find a good copy, most listed as moderately played or lp. But a good candidate for a 9 or ten run you about 50-65 bucks. 9's go for 100, 10's go for 600
Magicarp has been drawn by the same artist as Giratina V from LO. So I suppose this is more collectors move. I bought Magicarp for 29€ from the same reason as stated above right after the set has been released. 😉👌
Special illustration and illustration are just names that has nothing to do with how hard it is to pull Pokémon know what they are doing they like to surprise and let things creep up and watch how people go to appreciating it once it’s valuable now they want to appreciate it it’s not easy to pull the same artist who drew the Garatina, The fact that Magikarp doesn’t appear in the Pokémon song is weird to me but his time has come finally lol
Could be. Though we know IR is 1/13 and SIR is 1/32 according to the data. But yes some of these names are pointless and Pokémon has the most difficult rarity scales.
4:35 I’m always a bit confused about these graphs cause they’re very high/expensive compared to the cards that are being sold right now on Cardmarket. The Magikarp can be bought for 66 euro right now - and it’s super easy - so why do people wanna buy via TCG Player? 🤔 Is Cardmarket EU only? Is that really the only reason why it’s so cheap there? 🙄🚨
Yes the markets are different. Though it usually does trickle down to other parts of the world after a month. I have found US to be the best leader. For example Paldea evolved isn’t sold out in Australia, but it will eventually follow. Fusion Strike was one of the cheapest Booster Boxes a few weeks ago here in AUS. Once word got out in USA, it’s now super expensive here.
Beautiful artwork love it im glad theres cards in SV worth money this is healthy for the hobby.. cant believe people are conplaining about a single karp card.. the people crying are the ones who cant afford it git F broke boys
i think is overvalued, but it is easy to see why the card is loved. Shinji Kanda did an increable job on the art and Kanda has done similar cards like the Giratina V AA from Lost Origin, when you have such a cool style plus a popular pokemon is definitely hit with fans. but this type of behavior is definitely something not to trust
1 in 480 vs 1 in 1700… so roughly 1/3 as easy to pull… well moonbreon is 6-700…. And magikarp is 1/3 as easy to pull… still makes the target price $200+ just based off rarity…. 🤷♂️ your numbers not mine lol . $100 seems fair.
i don’t think this price will stay, it’s not that rare like you said, it’s not a staple pokemon (yes it’s an og but yk what i mean), and I don’t think it’s better than some of the art rares we’ve seen this year. Paldea evolved is very underrated, and will pop later on but not because of this Magikarp.
