True story: the perps in the cells will grow old and die if you play detective long enough. I had it happen to my cop Sim as I was trying to get him promoted to chief. I don't know why they age so much faster than my household (sims outside the household seem to age very randomly). However, my guy walked in to work one day and all the perps he saw every day were elders. Because they are programmed to work out in the cell, they overexerted themselves and dropped dead, one by one, until they all died. having a GTW career as a celebrity is playing a dangerous game. three patients walked out on my doctor sim and he almost didn't make gold that day because he wasted so much time autonomously "reacting in disgust" every five minutes.
The detective and doctor active careers are my two favorite careers in this game! I’m sure it’s a lot of work but I hope at some point we get maybe one or two more.
I really found myself wishing we had more of them, with a few unique socials that have an impact. I like it when each Sim I make has their own play style, but you don't get that with most careers. Just skill grinding.
I like all the GtW (Go to Work) and WfH (Work from Home) careers in the game atm, because each of them gives me options on how I want to mold that character more than let's say a Chef or Space or whatever career does. Like I liked both the Style Influencer and Acting careers they added after City Living and Get to Work, but would love more (like imagine if you actually went to work with the Criminal career, and had to report to a mob boss, go to lots, commit crimes, etc. Or could "Work from Home" and be a freelance criminal)
@@Patches2212 Zerbu's Turbo Careers does that, but it requires you to set up and assign a career lot. It's also been buggy for me for a while, though I haven't tried it since the latest update. It's very much molded around the Get to Work experience. As for freelance, that's doable with skills and clubs (if you have Get Together). Setting theft as a club activity enables it for people that don't have the klepto trait, for example. You could make an improv mob. (Mine meets at museums in broad daylight and has no shame.) I find writer and painter are already more lucrative as freelance than their career counterparts because you can dedicate more time to crafting at higher levels and have more control over filling needs.
Culprits are always a brand new randomly generated sim. When I played I would pretty frequently check for newly generated ones to give them make overs (we all know they look notoriously busted) so since I was able to recognize every randomly generated sim currently in the world I would always know who the culprit was, based solely on the fact that it was a sim I hadn't seen before
This was pretty funny thanks for the laughs. I enjoy Detective but of the three “Get to Work” careers, it offers the least in terms of what your career developed skills can do for you “off the clock”.
Definitely - it's better than most careers as at least it offers some kind of gameplay, but no strategy or knowledge is really required, and it has really really lame rewards.
I like these. Don't feel bad about putting out shorter content. Your style of letsplay is unique and fun to watch. I feel our play styles are similar and I very rarely wish you'd done something differently. You're the best, keep it up!
I wish they'd fix the rankings on the detective career. I have a sim that reached Commissioner at the job, made another household and made him work as a detective and the Sim that was supposed to be the Commissioner was working as a detective. This got me confused so I went to manage households and played that sim and her job is still Commissioner though I saw her working as a detective on my other sim. This sounds really confusing not gonna lie
That's really weird and annoying. I kind of assumed like with Sims 3 they'd keep their careers and ranks in them but I guess this explains why Nancy was a Detective... it doesn't pull from unemployed Sims and grabs them at random each time you start the career. :(
I'm going to go with if it's not a t-shirt or something else I know the name of, it's a blouse and I know in general what they are. But I've never been in this situation, ever, so it probably won't come up again. For me, It's one of those things you might not realize you have no clue how to define until you've gotta think about it :P
All I would do is go into Create A Sim, click the female option if my sim is a man, and then click on the Blouse icon and see what the game considers a blouse.
1) The actual way to solve the case and fill the work bar is to either look up in the database or process a piece of evidence though one case item at a time and then add it to the crime map. After it is added to the crime map it will ask to process a new piece of evidence until have enough for the APB. Then it will give the option of APB or process another piece of evidence or something else. 2) The quickest way to fill the description of the suspect is though the witness statements. The processing of the evidence is hit or miss. 3) Another great skill needed for cop is the charisma skill to raise the friend level quick. Plus all the angry people become easier to deal with when use three specific friendly interactions. They all stack 3 levels of happy right away to make them not angry. Does not work on very angry though. Those three are Brighten Day, Compliment Outfit, and Heartfelt Compliment. 4) The Observant trait from the rewards store is a great one to have as if makes friending up the person less required when get all the traits by just meeting them. It it is a walk up hi and arrest in most cases. 5) Befriending the co-workers works great before going to ask them about case theory too as if the relationship is low or career level is low to them then would get a negative to relationship with that person, however if just want to raise up the ranks of detective then this doesn't matter much. The main objective is filling the bar and best way to fill the is processing the criminals and solving cases. 6) Each case needs to be solved in two days each. If it takes longer then the game will start to give a new crime scene to explore, which each crime scene is different. The one thing holding back is how long you stay at the crime scene searching for evidence and so forth. 7) As go up in levels the search for clues increases the range or at least it appears to. The key is to search for clues in the whole house first one room at a time. The hidden clues are better changes to turn into actually evidence than the broken items all around. Yet when running out of time and need something to move away from the crime scene then the dusting of prints of the broken items will do. A neat sim will make you take longer at the crime scene. As they will be complaining about all the messes all around, which could be each room in some cases. 8) If want to can befriend criminals in the cell. Only do this if have time or just don't care much about the work bar. 9) This career becomes much more challenging in some cases when use the Wicked Whims Mod depending on settings. I have had the criminal being taken into the restroom to WooHoo before locking them back in the cell. The chief can and does take another co-worker into the restroom from time to time to WooHoo as well. Which could be a bit kind of hard when really want to talk to the chief. 10) When dealing with the Criminals in the cells just click on the one want to finger print, search, and mugshot and fire up the whole list in whatever order need it. Once the criminal is outside of the cell and going through the processing then click on the cell door and choose lock up and choose the criminal name. I have done it like this always since that first one went off for the fun in the restroom those 3min. earth time cost a bit of extra time to lock that one back up. Yet if this happens to you just enjoy the fact that there is no need to lock them back up and just go on to another task. Police work at its finest Sims style.
Dude, you could air short stories about corrupt cops with this! Stealing from homes while on the job was actually a real complaint about the cops in Baltimore(plus one guy randomly left his poop on the floor in someones house).

He is funny AF and has me cracking up so much. Also is no one going to mention that Carl's sim pulled a fish out of that woman's vajaja 😂😂
Your cop is a klepto, and the chief is selling hand sanitizer on eBay. hehehe I personally loved playing the scientist career in my Not So Berry challenge, but my favorite thing about Get To Work is running a retail store.
That is a good thing because I think right now it's what my brain is capable of doing, though I might be getting used to the whole thing. I'm a bit stir crazy but at least doing this makes things feel a bit more normal.
I always find the Sims 4 P.D. confusing. You can literally kidnap another sim for food (as a vampire), trap them in your house, starve them to death or drown them, and the police are nowhere to be seen. But they are shown to arrest people and have a "working" jail, they just won't touch the sim you're playing even if they've murdered an entire neighbourhood. Gotta love the sims.
I played a cop and it wasn't long before I got desperate and just blamed some guy that may or may not have been guilty! I felt so guilty I made my Sim become a musician!
Dude, I love your tutorials and your commentary. I ran across them when I searched for help with my Sims4 game and they help me destress about my Sims issues by laughing at you ripping the Sims a new one in your sarcastic way.
Having played a Detective Sim for quite some time now, I can say -- no, you're not missing a DAMN THING. It is EASILY my least-favorite active career because there is SO LITTLE variety. (Doctor comes close, but at least there's more challenge there with trying to identify the illness -- could you apply your lovely snark to that career too?) I plan to play it through to the end with Eric, simply because I am fueled by massive amounts of spite when it comes to stuff like this (you should see me against boss monsters I'm underleveled for in Fallout 4), but I'm glad his alien boyfriend now lives with him so I have someone ELSE to follow when I don't want to go to work with him.
My biggest gripe with detective career is having so many load screens..Load to station...load to crime scene...load bk to station..load on patrol...lol
at 5:57 just noticed that the one you were cuffing was my sim's wife. book her. I hate her. lazy af, doesn't clean, cooks and leaves it all to spoil on the counter. lol
I did enjoy playing the active careers, but only the scientist career, because there is a lot happening in that career, police career is just the same thing until level 10 and the doctor career is super frustrating when you become a doctor and not a single sim is helping you.
I think my enjoyment was definitely boosted by the fact I was making a video and having fun writing a script from all the absurdity. It was probably pretty telling I made it to like level 4 before realizing that was about all, but if more careers had a bit more going on with them the game would be a lot more interesting.
Yeah, if it hadn't been 5 years I might not have had so much fun with the idea. I'd much rather be playing with something that has actual rewards. Detectives should've been able to order others around too, particularly when you get to higher ranks.
(Shouts forbidden words!) My notifications areapparently participating in Social Distancing. Have I watched too many of your videos when looking at the thumbnail makes me say “Hey, Carl used Black Mail for his PD video!”? I particularly liked your artist rendition of the culprit-those vandalizing toddlers were definitely becoming enboldened each time a townie was arrested for their crimes! Obviously I was in the wrong line of work. I had to take pictures often, but never of my co-workers’ asses. There was one guy who I would have happily snapped pictures featuring his incredible ass all day long! Missed opportunities (sigh). Pretty sure the chief would make enough to retire in style if he added toilet paper to his hand sanitizer business on Ebay. Thank you for the information, overview, and entertainment!
You have such a great sense of humor! I was laughing throughout this video. You make everything seem seamless and natural. I know it's a lot of work, and I commend you for that. Thank you! Thumbs up!
Yeah - those types of little systems can make the game fun. Even better if they interact with traits, like some Sims being really tough to crack because they're overconfident.
The Sims arrest animation basically sums up what I thought arresting criminals was like IRL back when I wanted to be a police officer when grew up (this was about 15 years ago)
this was very entertaining! thank you. as an aside, i was relieved to see your criminals staring at the walls in their cells; mine recently started doing that, too, and i thought it was just me and that my game was broken.
Thanks for the guide, Carl. I just reinsalled the Sims 4 for an alphabet legacy and will remember what you did here if I decide one of my heirs wants to be a police detective. ;)
I don't even bother going to a new crime scene if i still have evidences from the previous cases lol. Go on patrol and immediately go back to the station. It's a waste of time waiting around.
Yeah it's really fortunate we don't have a real justice system, none of these cases are making it through. The witnesses are all over the scene contaminating it and I can use someone else's fingerprints to convict you. I guess its no surprise I ended up making this such a goofy video..
Next time a sim is using your computer you can give props, hug, share a secret, etc really any interaction that will require some animation while standing up.
Been doing it for a while now myself, first did it in late 2017 & whatnot, a good few of the sims i've made are in the career, and is an alright one to do. Though of course, you get the bug where you arrest the right suspect (any suspect really) and they don't show up in the cells. They do the next work day usually, or if you go into create a sim once or a few times with the played sim, or an npc they sometimes appear. Also put a few more desks in the station with some more computers, so i have a chance at using them. Also with that big unused space upstairs, turned it into a sleeping quarters with a decent few single beds, with a couple of couches. So that uses the space up there too. Also put some custom uniforms in, which look a bit more realstic, like some that'd actually be used too that replace the standard uniforms, along with a uniform for the rank of chief which my simself is, that i use.
Thank youuuu for doing this! I've never play detective too I think about it since some weeks but never done yet. And I'm glad to discover it here and to not be alone in this situation XD (sry if my english is weiiiiird rectify me if needs I need to learn)
If your sim was a Spellcaster and you have your mischief spells unlocked, you won't have much use for the kleptomaniac trait, in fact, the pickpocket/swipe object ability that you gain as a Batu'u vacationer/citizen will let you swipe objects without the need for the kleptomaniac trait too; But if you want to have all three of those possibilities together you could swipe anything in sight for all that you desire😉. Yea😂 I have been playing Kleptomaniac/criminal sims a lot too. My game clue: using the the Batu'u swipe object would give you the better chance at swiping objects than the normal kleptomaniac trait interaction.
This makes me want to make a cheesy cop looking fellow with a mustach and aviator sunglasses just to play the cop career. I've never even tried the career because I had heard it was buggy. But, now I don't care. I just want to make the cheesy cop and I don't even care if he gets promoted, I enjoy gameplay more when they struggle.
Sure! I'm glad so many people seemed to have enjoyed it, it's one of my most liked videos even if its not up there in views which was rewarding in itself.
So is he maybe a random like that Ralph fellow, one you get fairly regularly when you randomize or is he someone you find in a certain town? My first interaction with him was around StrangerVille and I've made a lot of use of him. I was afraid I got him from the gallery and had no idea who created him..
He just showed up in my gallery and I noticed he was one of the fat townies I like to recruit for the army for my Biggest Loser households. Once he completed the bodybuilder aspiration, I changed him back to family and let him become a detective. He has a weird personality mix with family and kleptomaniac... now that I think about it, he reminds me of p***stache from Orange is the New Black. Maybe having him become a cop was subconscious. 🤔

@@Patches2212 Sounds like you will like the Basemental Gangs mod if you haven't tried it already.
I always make Summer Holiday a nurse!
@@Patches2212
Zerbu's Turbo Careers does that, but it requires you to set up and assign a career lot.
(Mine meets at museums in broad daylight and has no shame.)
I find writer and painter are already more lucrative as freelance than their career counterparts because you can dedicate more time to crafting at higher levels and have more control over filling needs.
Culprits are always a brand new randomly generated sim. When I played I would pretty frequently check for newly generated ones to give them make overs (we all know they look notoriously busted) so since I was able to recognize every randomly generated sim currently in the world I would always know who the culprit was, based solely on the fact that it was a sim I hadn't seen before
Can you cover the Outdoor Retreat in a video? I'd like to see the herbalism stuff and the hermit covered in more detail.
i never get tired of these videos. sims careers are so silly they never fail to make me laugh
I love the doctor career so much I wish I could turn off the time so I can just keep on working or start my own private practice.
"Your gnome is missing, huh? Someone will be right over."
Your videos are not only very informative, but always extremely entertaining!
Detectives with the "Evil" trait get a happy moodlet from interogations.
Blouse: A usually loose-fitting garment especially for women that covers the body from the neck to the waist (M-W).
I'm going to go with if it's not a t-shirt or something else I know the name of, it's a blouse and I know in general what they are. But I've never been in this situation, ever, so it probably won't come up again. For me, It's one of those things you might not realize you have no clue how to define until you've gotta think about it :P
@@CarlsSimGuides I literally LOL when you did the search. I hate that the game has so many classifications for clothes. 😆😆😆
In my mind a blouse buttons up and is made of woven, not knitted, material. Like a men's dress shirt, but for a woman. Just my personal take
All I would do is go into Create A Sim, click the female option if my sim is a man, and then click on the Blouse icon and see what the game considers a blouse.
@@tornadogirl9099 spot on!
"The cost of damage must be in the dozens!" lol. Thank you for the never-ending help you give us all, and also the laughs!
The commentary on this video has me watching it for a 3rd time 😂
Your humor is always the best I love these videos always
The detective career was wasted on the sims 4 because there aren't any crimes to solve for regular npc cops...if any ever spawn.
this was an extremely funny video - honestly the cop and doctor jobs are sometimes hard to figure out at times.
CARL: "I'd get a picture of the evidence, but I am pretty sure it would just be that female cops ass"
ME: Dead 😂 😂 😂
How this man doesn't have MILLIONS of followers, I will never know. He is funny AF and has me cracking up so much.
Also is no one going to mention that Carl's sim pulled a fish out of that woman's vajaja 😂😂
you are so hilarious and witty please make more videos of you playing the game, I just love it!!
Your cop is a klepto, and the chief is selling hand sanitizer on eBay. hehehe
I personally loved playing the scientist career in my Not So Berry challenge, but my favorite thing about Get To Work is running a retail store.
This is the content I need during Covid-19 stay-at-home. 😁
That is a good thing because I think right now it's what my brain is capable of doing, though I might be getting used to the whole thing. I'm a bit stir crazy but at least doing this makes things feel a bit more normal.
@@CarlsSimGuides Your videos make me want to play the game & that makes it fun during times like this. So thank you 😁
I always find the Sims 4 P.D.
Omg I laughed out loud through this whole thing!! "Hello, sims 911 what's your mild inconvenience?"
I hate the detective career and I never went far in it 😂 however, this video makes me want to try again !
I have the same problem, I watch Carl's vids then have to play them out!
I played a cop and it wasn't long before I got desperate and just blamed some guy that may or may not have been guilty! I felt so guilty I made my Sim become a musician!
Your intonation of your voice here made me feel like every line was gonna rhyme, I'm kinda sad it didnt lol
That artist's recreation... had me in tears... and then I saw those sling back sandals on that townie with cargo shorts, and I lost it!!
Dude, I love your tutorials and your commentary. I ran across them when I searched for help with my Sims4 game and they help me destress about my Sims issues by laughing at you ripping the Sims a new one in your sarcastic way.
That 'out of the way with you' killed me 🤣
Celebrity klepto detective. Now that's The Sims 4 I love.
Finally caught up with this -- your narration is pretty much my internal monologue when I play Sims these days :D Love it!
My biggest gripe with detective career is having so many load screens..Load to station...load to crime scene...load bk to station..load on patrol...lol
at 5:57 just noticed that the one you were cuffing was my sim's wife. book her. I hate her. lazy af, doesn't clean, cooks and leaves it all to spoil on the counter. lol
My cop sim who is a mermaid went on patrol on a secluded island and decided. Eh no crime. Let's swim. 😹😹
You're hilarious, so entertaining to watch you play
you deserve a blue tick and a whole bunch of subscribers. I LOVE ALL OF UR VIDS. SPECIALLY THE GARDENING SKILL ONES
Seriously Carl love your videos and your humor.
Thanks WiseSimmer!
I totally agree the Sims 4 seems so bare bones to me
So many quips! Love it. I haven't tried the detective career yet because the scientist had so many perks. Can't wait to check it out now.
Is it bad to say that as of late, I have been binge watching your videos? So informative and fun
Lol. This is a lot more amusing than most sims gameplay vids I’ve seen in the past. Keep up the good work!
You have such a great sense of humor! I was laughing throughout this video. You make everything seem seamless and natural. I know it's a lot of work, and I commend you for that. Thank you! Thumbs up!
This is hilarious. I like these kind of videos, you should do more.
i genuinly love these types of videos youre hilarious
I used to really enjoy the interrogations when I first purchased the pack. I wish they did more stuff like that.
Yeah - those types of little systems can make the game fun. Even better if they interact with traits, like some Sims being really tough to crack because they're overconfident.
I love your videos. This was hilarious. I especially liked when the suspect stood behind you and then finding a hammer on him.
I'll confess I used a time cheat and he peed himself. On to the next shift. LMFAO
The Sims arrest animation basically sums up what I thought arresting criminals was like IRL back when I wanted to be a police officer when grew up (this was about 15 years ago)
I watched this in 1.5x speed and it was even better than the usual. LOL. I love your videos.
this was very entertaining! thank you. as an aside, i was relieved to see your criminals staring at the walls in their cells; mine recently started doing that, too, and i thought it was just me and that my game was broken.
My sim is a vampire cop. That was real annoying at first
This is a regular day at my agency.
Carl you are hilarious! 😂😭🤣 Damn toddlers!
“A pack of thug toddlers” I new it that where behind it all
Thanks for the guide, Carl. I just reinsalled the Sims 4 for an alphabet legacy and will remember what you did here if I decide one of my heirs wants to be a police detective. ;)
This is amazing. I appreciate the effort you put in. Thanks for making me laugh!
I wish we could use the detective/police career to arrest townies for wearing those hideous outfits.
I was thinking the other day “I want to make my sim a cop”. This was great to watch (and made me want to cop more 😂)
LOLLL The blouse was the purple one! I know it from knowing all the CAS categories so well haha
CELEBRITY KLEPTOCOP HAHAH this was hilarious
Next time a sim is using your computer you can give props, hug, share a secret, etc really any interaction that will require some animation while standing up.
I think detective career is the hardest to get promotion, because you often get tasks that slowing your promotion progress.
correct me if I was wrong
This was a super good video, you have a lot of good jokes and the flow of story progression was great
Been doing it for a while now myself, first did it in late 2017 & whatnot, a good few of the sims i've made are in the career, and is an alright one to do.
Dude on my first patrol i was sent on an ampty island in sulani at least there was something on yours
This makes me want to play as a detective! Very funny commentary 🤭
Thank youuuu for doing this! I've never play detective too I think about it since some weeks but never done yet. And I'm glad to discover it here and to not be alone in this situation XD
(sry if my english is weiiiiird rectify me if needs I need to learn)
11:20 that scene perfectly summarizes everything 😂
No, I love this. All the active careers could use a review every so often, especially if you find a good mod for them.
I wish they could let you actually solve crimes. They just get random physical clues, nothing challenging
I loved this video especially the funny parts.
If you do, please put him on the gallery: I need that in my game, with an emphasis on NEED.
Yknow sometimes I watch sims videos and for a second forget which sims I'm watching.
Crazy good video!! I now want to play this one. I have avoided it until now! Ty!
Comedy on point!!!!!!!
What I loved about the private detective career in The Sims 3 were the stories behind each case. In comparison, each case in TS4 feels generic AF.
Playing the detective career while having Wicked Whims mod installed made crime scene investigating WAAAAY more interesting! 🤣
Why? Spill the tea lol
Laughed my way through this. Thank you Carl
Sure! I'm glad so many people seemed to have enjoyed it, it's one of my most liked videos even if its not up there in views which was rewarding in itself.
@@CarlsSimGuides I just love your sense of humour. Also your world outlook is really interesting. Got to admit Carl, your'e one of my favourites.
"Criminal Toddler" - I love it.
I put that townie in the detective career, too.
Which townie is he? He looks so familiar to both Carl and I but neither of us can remember where he came from!
@@sleekoduck Thank you! It was driving me a bit nuts that I couldn't remember :)
