Just changed the cabin air filter on a 2014 BMW X5 S35i; F15. No sockets/nuts at all. Just a plastic cover (looks like a catch basin just off the windshield) with tabs on passenger side (over same area as past cabin filter assemblies). There is a mirror half on the driver's side. Undo the tabs of the cover and remove. Unhook the tabs for the cabin filter assembly and gently navigate the whole assembly out. The filters are underneath and untab just like the video. No wired connections (I hope). Filterheads AQ1147C filters fit perfectly! Reverse it all. Hope to hell I did it correctly but everything fit back fairly easily! Drove around and air quality was solid. No warning lights. If someone can validate this was correct and do a video, that would make me feel MUCH better. But feeling 98% great that this was correct air smells and feels good!
The AQ1147C is the correct filter for your car and this video shows the correct installation. The X5 in the video is a 2010 so that is probably why you saw some minor differences in installing your filter.
Heiko is absolutely correct, there is not a single nut or bolt on that car or any European car that is 1/2" or SAE size, it's all strictly metric. 1/2" is 12.7mm and therefore the correct size most likely a 12mm nut that your 1/2 is flopping around on quite loosely. it is less likely to be a 13mm as A. BMW mostly use even numbers, eg 8,10,12,14mm ect and B. at 12.7, a 1/2 would most likely not fit a 13mm nut. otherwise a helpful video guys

I do not have data on the sensor connector at this time. The cars user manual should be able to give you further insight.
