Very helpful video! I have a similar Yale lock that also requires depressing the pin to take the handle off. However, this lock does not have screws connecting it to the other handle, but rather the flange that sits up against the door, rotates to screw onto the other handle coming in from the outside. Said another way: after removing the knob you may need to attempt to rotate the plate counter clockwise. Based on the surrounding hardware, this is probably an older version of that lock.
This is the only video that actually helped me. The lock broke and I just could not get it out. That bit about pushing in the pin to get the door handle off solved my problem! Thank you!

Sir, my doorknob was improperly installed. Meaning that I can't see the pin in the inner facing doorknob that you're referring to here. It appears to be covered by the cover plate. There is a pin on the outer knob where the key can be inserted. I've been trying to depress the pin on that said side but I'm unsuccessful. Any tips on how I can uninstall this yale lock set? Thank you and more power!
look for the pinhole, depress with a small object , turn the knob left and right slowly, once you feel the wire, goes down a bit, pull the knob and at the same time release the depress wire. the knob will comes out. Good luck. doing this procedure, the knob lock must be in the unlock mode.
Hello there, this was a great video! I have an issue with a Yale Commercial Key in Lever Lockset YL16/YL17 and i can't get the door to open only from the inside. I have tried turning the key so that only the knob from the inside opens the door but i can't get the key out from the outside. Right now both knobs turn in the same direction and i have to put on an additional lock on, otherwise anybody can open my door from the outside. Is there anything you can recommend or a video i can watch? Thanks you in advance!
Hi Sandra, the problem of your lock cause by the wrong positioning of the Spindle of the cylinder.. when it was inserted. try and remove that lever handle ( the outside handle) by 1. turn the key 90 degrees..2. there is a tiny hole at the lever body, depress that with a paperclip, and pull the handle..(the outside lever is remove) 3. reposition that Cylinder spindle ..(if your lock is keylocking type) the position of the spindle is either 45 degrees left or sometimes right. try each of those position. and insert back the lever handle. 4. once it is inserted back to its place, WHILE THE DOO IS OPEN..Insert your key and turn, then extract your key out. .if it function that way..then it means the cylinder spindle is in the right position now. and your lock function normally. Hope this help. regards, and thanks for watching. if you got some more question, feel free to comment.
Note: if your lock is not key locking -or it is a standard one only.. do this. remove the lever handle from outside. follow instruction above 1,2,3. after taking out the cylinder, turn the key, another 90 degrees, and pull it out. (if it goes out, (that is the right position of the cylinder spindle.) now insert the key again, (do not turn) install the cylinder back. once it is in place, return the lever handle. pull out the key. test your lock function with the key.(WHILE THE DOOR IS OPEN) now i think that solve the problem. regards.
Could you please explain how to remove the lock from the outside knob handle? I have an old doorknob that I've been trying to disassemble for scrap metal, but the lock the last thing I need to take out before I can get the rest of the pieces... I would really appreciate it.
***** Hi there, Removing the outside knob..posibilities are (in your case)#1. ==IF the lock is off the door, and its a cylinder type, put it first in passage mode. that means both knpbs are turning freely. then look for the tiny hole at the neck of the outside knob, find it? now turn that outside knob clockwise, or counter clocwise. and look for the retaining pin thru that tiny hole and align it both. then depress that retaining pin using a small nail. pulled the knob out, and it will disengaged. (i know its not so simple for someone unfamiliar on lockworks.)but give it a try. #2= if the lock is rigid it means always locked, then you need a key to turn that cylinder 90 degrees (3 oclock) look for that tiny hole again at the neck of the outside knob. and depress the retaining pin, and pull out the knob. #3= If that lock is an I.C (interchangeable core type) Method #1 or #2is a possible solution. hope i help. thanks for watching my video. and Goodluck.
hi rena666 please tell me first what kind of lock you got..was it a knob lock, or a lever lock? (knob lock is the type with a round handle or knob, the one that is in this vodeo. a lever lock is the one with a "lever handle".) now let me assume you have this knob lock, please check for a stuck up latchbolt. if that is the case, try to lubricate that with either wd40 or something similar like 3 in 1 lubricant. if not any of what i mentioned is an occuring fault, please feel free to give me more details of what you noticed. regards.
Iv got Yale Locks P77 Traditional Nightlatch Brasslux and ths part inside which is moving it doesnt lock the door and anybody can just push the door ang go inside. The part is moving normally but when is going into the other metal part it doesnt lock.
I found out why. I dont know why but the door lowered and when I try to lift them the lock is working. But I dont know how I can lock the door when I use key ...
hi Rena 666 it seems to me the problem is in the mis alignment of the lockbolt going to the latch catch. (as you said the door get loose and sag) TRY THIS, GET A SCREW DRIVER,AND TIGHTENED THE HINGES SCREWS OF THE DOOR, THAT WILL CORRECT THE ALIGNMENT OF THE LOCKBOLT TO THE LATCH CATCH. IMPORTANT!..after doing that, first check the key in the cylinder if it extract the bolt, WITH THE DOOR OPEN.if it does.. position yourself inside your room..and close the door..see if its locking now. (i said position yourself inside your room, because this lock when defective, is nasty when you are lockout.) hope it will solve your lock problem. regards.
thanks, but unfortunately, l'm facing a problem, the "pin" is not "coming out", so, l unable to take out the knob... (my problem: l hardly turn (the knob)and get out from inside, and now, l try to turn the hole to other side, to make it bit easy for me to turn the knob (for temporary))
+Wui Keong Yip hi pal, can you tell me what brand of knob lock you are having trouble with? which part of the lock you are intending to start removing..the one on the cylinder side? or the one on the push button side? i will be glad to help.regards.
Vor Pike Hi friend, removing the lock cylinder of this kind (like yale knob lock), (when the door is lock) is two way street, One= is by the right key... and two= by picking it, to turn the cylinder and opening the door. then that's the time you can remove the lock, starting from the INSIDE part(where the pusbutton is ). to clarify what you are saying... you cannot remove the lock starting from the outside..even you have taken out the cylinder..it has to start from the "inside" part of the knob. because that's where the retaining screws are located, It has to be unfastened first in order to pull the lock out. thanks a lot for the question. it add infos to this video. thanks for viewing.
8 yrs of providing invaluable help. Thank you!!
Great tutorial ;-) Took me a while to figure out how to remove the knob, until I rotated it one day and found that pin you spoke of. Nice video.

thanks gentlemen..
can l use a long nail?
+Wui Keong Yip sure you can, as long as its size is small enough to go thru the hole where the retaining pin is viewed. thanks for watching.
thanks, but unfortunately, l'm facing a problem, the "pin" is not "coming out", so, l unable to take out the knob... (my problem: l hardly turn (the knob)and get out from inside, and now, l try to turn the hole to other side, to make it bit easy for me to turn the knob (for temporary))

there's still a problem that you haven't addressed, you've taken out the knob, but not the cylinder that's actually preventing the door from opening
