Mr Mertz knew how to squeeze every bit of beauty out of a melody and this is a brilliant example wonderfully played. A gorgeous piece with lots of what the guitar does best. I love it and thank UA-cam from brining people into contact with this music. A masterpiece played by a master guitarist.
Gacias, maestro.
I'm trying to learn this at the moment. Can anyone explain why the first chord of the second bar is marked 8va but on every recording I've heard it just seems like everyone just ignores it? It's actually written in several places but I can't tell what it's supposed to mean.
Askar Tjulers I’d say at the very least 6-7 years of relatively systematic practice if you want to be able to play the piece as it is written. It’s a really, really difficult piece. I’m 5 years in to guitar, around Villa-Lobos etudes/La Catedral level, and I don’t think I’ll be able to tackle something like this for the next few years
Hungarian! And to me it really ain't spanish music. It's very romantic in style. Schumman and perhaps italian classical influences? Besides I kinda feel that germans and austro-hungarian composers wrote even more passionate music than their spanish brothers and sisters.

Don't know if i'm right, but i suppose that's written for a 7 string guitar, i think they were kinda popular at the time

How long would it take to get to the level to play this?
Yeah anyone share their experience?

@Charles-Valentin Alkan omg thank you very much Charles for these powerful insights!!
long time G.I.
Hitting all the notes probably won't be as long as playing it musically. I think another 10 years for me at the rate I'm going haha.

Wow. For a German to compose such a passionate and beautiful piece of Spanish music? Impressing.

Well not really Spanish music.
That's actually a piece wrote by the ungarian composer Johann Kaspar Mertz.
One of the great of the classical guitar.
