I just got this game the other day; making cats is about as fun as playing, lol. I'm still pretty bad at the game but it's a nice chill game to play with friends, too.
I agree that the cute 'kitty war times' story is pretty weird, though!

My best advice is when you choose your 3 patterns, place them in a way that makes some patches much easier to double up in the centre of the board. That's how I score quite well although I'm no expert. At least when WW3 kicks off, I can bring a kitty blanket into the trenches and know I'm safe...
