This was a tribute album/band done by friends for a friend Andrew Wood who was the singer (with band members Pearl Jam) of Mother Love Bone. He was best friends & roommate of Chris Cornell. Andrew died, band found Eddie Vedder & formed Pearl Jam.
Grunge IS emotion. Raw. And the most beautiful scream you'll ever hear. One of most amazing voices in rock n roll history. You two should hear Chris cover Prince's song *Nothing Compares To You* His group Audioslave is my personal fave of his bands.

Great music pick by your patreon. Two of the best rock singers in history in the same band. Also, if you haven’t heard much of Eddie Vedder’s stuff(the singer with Cornell), checkout Pearl Jam- Black, the live version. Both are amazing artists.
Glad you two found Temple of the Dog. Andrew Wood, the lead singer of the band Mother Love Bone, had passed, and this band was a tribute to him. The band was comprised of Chris Cornell (of Soundgarden), Eddie Vedder, and the remaining members of Mother Love Bone -- Stone Goddard and Jeff Ament -- who joined Eddie Vedder to become Pearl Jam. Temple of the Dog was a one-album wonder, but very worthwhile for its place in grunge rock history. This brings back memories. Happy you enjoyed it!
I love this song the band is a supergroup made up of Soundgarden & Pearl Jam a tribute to their fellow musician & friend Andrew Wood of Mother Love Bone. May Andrew Wood & Chris Cornell RIP y'all are greatly missed
Just so you know, Creed is a Pearl Jam knock-off and Eddie deserves so much more than to be compared to them. Anyways, two of the very best rock vocalists of all time for sure.
There was a bidding war, which was unusual for any band from Seattle. We were living our dream, but there was also this mistrust over what that meant. Does this make us a commercial rock band? Does it change our motivation when we’re writing a song and making a record? “Hunger Strike” is a statement that I’m staying true to what I’m doing regardless of what comes of it, but I will never change what I’m doing for the purposes of success or money.”Chris Cornell (1062)
Temple of the Dog was formed in Seattle, Washington in 1990 as a tribute to their friend, Andrew Wood, lead singer of the bands Malfunkshun and Mother Love Bone ( Famous bands in early Grunge in Seatle). The lineup included Stone Gossard on rhythm guitar, Jeff Ament on bass guitar (both ex-members of Mother Love Bone , Mike McCready on lead guitar, and Matt Cameron (Soundgarden on drums). Eddie Vedder appeared as a guest to provide some lead and backing vocals. After this collaboration, Eddie, Gossard, Ament and McCready formed Pear Jam with Camerom joining later. Chris continued Soundgarden, both bands making it to the grunge scene. They remained friends and made other cooperations together until Chris's death in 2017.
This cd never floats far from the player. A true classic. Along these lines I'd like to request Say Hello To Heaven and Wooden Jesus from Temple Of The Dog and Chloe Dancer/Crown Of Thorns by Mother Love Bone. Eddie Vedder and Chris Cornell harmonize so beautifully on Hunger Strike. I really liked both of your takes on the lyrics. Peace!
Chris Cornell was the lead singer of this band. Sort of a tribute band to Andy wood from mother love bone. Died from an overdose. This was actually somewhat of an audition with the band for Eddie Vedder and became Pearl jam with the remaining members of mother love bone.
Chris of coarse was doing his soundgarden thing already and was very good friends with Andy. A roommate I believe but it's been so long may be a little fuzzy on those details
Greetings! Jamel sent me here, told me to check you guys out. I enjoyed your reaction so I subscribed. I really liked your breakdown of the lyrics at the end. I've been listening to this song for some 25 years and never bothered to try and decifer the lyrics. I just always enjoyed listening to Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder sing together. Lot's of interesting lyrics in 90's grunge. If you're interested in cyriptic lyrics along with smooth sounds, may I suggest Steely Dan. You'll get caught in a groove and then suddendly say, "whoo, hold up. What did he say?" Anyways Godspeed!
A band named Mother Love Bone singer had ODed on Heroin (Andrew Wood). The remaining band got together with Cornell & Cameron (Soundgarden) to make a tribute album. That first singer, the one singing the verses, is Eddie Vedder, and (AFAIK) this is his first "pro" track ever. Chris Cornell (Soundgarden) sang the chorus, and every other track on this album alone. The band really like Vedder, and kept him on full time. They adopted the name Pearl Jam, and their debut "Ten" has gone Platinum more than a dozen times. Fun Fact: The Alice in Chains song "Would" is about the same guy dying. (Get it? Would, sounds like Wood, the guys name ... song is about Heroin, which would also kill the guy singing this one, Layne Staley)
Great take on it! For a long time, when it was time for the artists to get a new contract, the record companies would stop promoting them for this reason. Once the artists realized their worth, the suits couldn’t take advantage of them anymore so they looked for new talent. You had to have a hell of a following to make it long term! Or guidance from someone in the know, when you got discovered

This song is about Chris Cornell ms experience with the recording industry. “ how can I feed on the powerless when my cups already overfilled is his thoughts on having enough resources but charging people to hear his music “ but their farming babies the slaves are all working “ is also the record industry.
Let me apologize in advance if this has already been said. The lyric is “Going” not “Growing”. I’ve always assumed that meant that Chris would rather starve than take advantage of the powerless. Also, this was basically Eddie Vetter’s audition for the band that became Pearl Jam. It’s a beautiful, as well as important, song from a special time in Seattle!
Chris Cornell took the place of dog bone and made temple of the dog's. And started Eddie Vetter to song tbe low parts and he took that band and made Pearl Jam. Listen to Black on MTV acoustic live amazing song.

A little deeper than you think. It's about addiction to heroin. That's what killed Andrew Wood of Mother Love Bone (MLB). Hungry is referring to physical hunger, as these guys will spend every dime on drugs instead of buying food, and literally are feeling the pains of hunger. And even after stealing from the wealthy (trying to justify), they wind up buying more drugs instead of food. Andrew Wood was very influential in the grunge scene, everyone knew him, he had a presence. Temple of the dog was a dedication to him, with members from MLB and Soundgarden, along with Eddie Vedder. Afterwards, Eddie Vedder and the MLB guys formed Pearl Jam. Sad as hell when Chris Cornell died not long ago.
The term “ farming babies” also brings to mind the whole issue “ Issac Kappy “ was “ suicided “ over bringing to light. A slightly darker interpretation, I guess.
Good day!! You were soooo close to understanding the lyrics of this song. Chris Cornell wrote this song in reference to the big record labels making so much money(mouths of decadence) but he feels bad taking their money because their money is coming from the people buying records( the powerless) who don’t have anything but he is still hungry to make it with his career. So he is conflicted because he gets paid but he feels like that money is being stolen from the people by the big corporations . That was a great interpretation guys!!👍Also Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam is the other singer.
I take it as a spiritual hunger, the luxuries of the rock star life are unfulfilling as you become removed from the working class wishful thinking of a desire to maintain empathy for the poor, yearning to project himself into the role of Robin Hood stealing from rich to ... but he knows that means he has to forgo the pleasures of being rich if he wants that world, so he contemplates going hungry, knowing that you cannot live on bread alone in fulfillment but Chris didn’t do that, he committed suicide. Beautiful voice, best in grunge, childhood crush

FEED ME PLEASE!!!
