It hasn't even been 2 years, but already I look back in amazement at how strong my "dairy goggles" used to be. I still see it all around me. It's weird that I don't miss dairy at all anymore. The inconvenience of avoiding it at potlucks or restaurants is sometimes a pain, but I don't crave dairy at all. Yet I can remember when I bought so many dairy products and honestly believed I could never live without cheese.

Dairy is indeed addictive. Thankfully I managed to get rid of it. Yeast extract played an important role since it resembles the taste of cheese so much. Once I learned how to make my own bread spread with it I never again craved for any dairy.

I’m convinced that over the millennium humans have survived by eating anything they could figure out was more healthy than unhealthy, and somewhat palatable. This included meat and dairy. People lived long enough to reproduce and raise a family, and thus the human race continued. But in these times of food bounty we are seeing the effects of various types of diet on the body. Now we can make more optimal health choices and plant based whole food diets are coming out on top.

I think so too. But only marginally. It looks to me like these hard line long term eating habits like veganism, or carnivore, animal protein/vegan keto, or carb fuelled are all fine. You can be as healthy as you want to be and consume any animal protein that you desire. Same with living on Vegetables alone. And the same seems to true for keto or carb fuelled bodies.
Once you're focused on your own health and moving towards eating healthier than you did before then you will get healthier. It's as simple as that.
The problem with channels like this one is that they seem to be very boxed in by their chosen diet, It's all reaffirmation of their chosen ideology.
If you listen to this guy's videos you pick up on his not so subtle opinion that consuming animal proteins is bad for human health. Which is ridiculous of course.
The quagmire of bullshit that all these diet-for-long-term-health channels confound and mislead their viewers with is using statistics to lie.

Meat can be consumed regularly by people who stay free of heart disease as well as cancer.
This is the problem with running on statistics alone. They can be very misleading.
I am very interested to see how different diets effect people long term. Like you mentioned, time will tell.
I'm not anti vegan, or anti carb. Or anti meat or lectins or alcohol or sugar.
I'm listening and learning. In reading and listening to different doctors and dieticians there are many parallels and many contradictions. A lot to think about for sure.
Our bodies are so adaptive and so efficient at healing themselves that a lot of what is considered to be bad for your health, such as the meat you mentioned can be eaten with zero short, medium or long term health problems arising.

At that time we didn't know about endogenous production - but confirmation of this link, particularly with fibre, should have been the final nail in the coffin of OCSFAs as dairy biomarkers. I eat a low carb diet, which does include chicken, fish and a moderate amount of red meat, but also vegetables, nuts and plenty of dairy (cheese, lots of butter and some milk / heavy cream), dark chocolate (90%), and tea/coffee instead of sugary drinks/fruit juice etc.. Anyway, my health markers are all terrific with total cholesterol being at 137, HDL being 42 and LDL at 81. The most notable change however from 5 years ago are my Triglycerides, which are an important marker of heart health / fat in blood / possible buildup of plaque and an indication if you are consuming more calories than you are burning. 5 years ago, this number was at 186, which is on the high side (below 150 is the recommended number). In the last 5 years, I have mostly cut simple/processed carbs, processed /fast foods and sugars and have actually increased my saturated fat and protein intake, while also increasing my daily exercise, mostly walking after meals and occasional dumbell bicep/shoulder exercises. All of this to say that these changes have led to an incredible reduction in my Triglycerides, which are now very healthy at 66 ;)

Vegans seem to think that studies that indicate meat/dairybad couldnt possibly be corrupted by industry funding which is absurd being that the petrochemical industry and even the companies who established the demonic factory farming prctices, are all heavily invested in plant ag which is much more profitable than animal ag. "And then there is the latest Adventist 2 study that came out a few weeks ago and said, breast cancer risk was reduced 40% by those who ate dairy." Uh, do you have a link for that, because this is what the earlier findings were from Adventist II: More dairy linked to more breast cancer:
"A possible role for dairy consumption in breast cancer risk has been suggested by international comparisons showing strong correlations between dairy intake and breast cancer risk and by the marked increase in breast cancer incidence in Japan following that country’s massive increase in dairy consumption toward the end of the 20th century.[74],[75] In the Adventist Health Study-2, including 52,795 North American women, higher dairy milk intake was associated with higher risk of breast cancer, with a 50% increased risk among those with the highest, compared with lowest, milk intake. The results were similar for full-fat and reduced-fat milk products. Soy milk consumption was not associated with increased risk. Biological plausibility comes from the presence of estrogens in cow’s milk products, which, although modest in comparison with endogenous production, nonetheless appears to be sufficient to alter a variety of physiological processes.[76]"

Perhaps the problem is not the fat or saturated fat at all (or high protein consumption) but that people have been eating shitloads of added sugars, refined/processed carbs and unhealthy oils (fast foods) in combination with all of the meat and dairy? Have you ever considered this? You always quick to blame anything animal consumption to health problems, but so many people that regularly consume meat, full fat dairy and eggs have perfect health markers and cholesterol levels as well. It should also be said that LDL IS NOT automatically BAD. We NEED CHOLESTEROL. All of our cells contain Cholesterol. It's also necessary for many hormones. It's when the LDL becomes oxidized that there are potential heart / artery issues. What causes oxidation of LDL? : consumption of fried foods, PUFA (vegetable cooking oils), margarines, baked goods., smoking... I don't advise eating tons of saturated fats, but do not believe their consumption is anywhere near as damaging as sugar, simple carbs and fast foods.

    • @karlwheatley1244
      @karlwheatley1244 2 роки тому

"It should also be said that LDL IS NOT automatically BAD. We NEED CHOLESTEROL. All of our cells contain Cholesterol." No one is saying LDL is inherently bad, they are saying ELEVATED LDL is bad, and research shows that having elevated LDL is causal in heart disease.
"It's when the LDL becomes oxidized that there are potential heart / artery issues." To high LDL causes atherosclerosis, and too high LDL also means its more likely more of it becomes oxidized.
"What causes oxidation of LDL? : consumption of fried foods, PUFA (vegetable cooking oils), margarines, baked goods." Exposing cholesterol-rich foods to air, light, cooking, and reheating all also create oxidation of cholesterol, and then eating those foods raises a person's level of oxidized cholesterol. Yes, processed food is unhealthy, but so is eating too many eggs or too much saturated animal fat.

For the first time, you got this one 50% wrong. However that's the same success rate as Nina Tiechols. Animals who are fed modern grains will have trans fat present in their tissues thus passing it on to those who consume the tissues. This is the correlation to your well documented studies, the one question never asked: What are they feeding the animal? But both you and Nina will espouse the benefits of olive oil. I think you both mean well and are only trying to help people but you're both half wrong on this issue largely because you don't ask the most important question: What is the chemical structure of each so-called 'saturated fat'? Calling a coconut saturated fat and a beef tallow saturated fat seems to ignore the scientific difference in their chemical structures. A different structure, no matter how small, even having a single electron missing will dramatically alter how this substance behaves toward other substances.

    • @alanwatsontravel

He clearly differentiates different types of saturated fats and he even shows the chemical structures of the most relevant ones for the Swedish study (pentadecanoic and heptadecanoic acid @ 2.49)! . @consis 3 роки тому

@@alanwatsontravel He dismisses Nina Teichols outright which isn't fair because she's not wrong about the unscientific nature of Ansel Keys' 7 country study. She also espouses how wrong it was to follow a 'lowfat guideline' set by our own government which by broad definition includes the consumption of omega 6 oils. Furthermore, no one ever takes into account the effects of saturated animal fat on humans by age which itself is deeply flawed logic considering Mic's own constant appraisal of dr Esselstyn whom always rails against TMAO. The biggest problem vegans have is that even though they are using more science to back their claims and largely have most debates properly won, they tend to take it too far with injecting broad claims by epidemiology. Epidemiology is not scientific and again, no ever ever looks at the data on humans before the age of 35 vs after 35 which would take the debate into a more scientific approach.

There are varying levels of veracity of vegan studies, also. Many have weaker evidence but there is a fair number with very strong evidence. I'm very skeptical of any studies which looks at individual food items. A great deal of them have extremely weak evidence or design, and many have high balance.

When considering the effects of eating one food or diet versus another, you have have to consider ALL the compounds in each and ALL the effects of each. Of course EVOO has some modest amounts of phytonutrients, but it also is largely pure processed fat, and you can get the beneficial phytonutrients without the concentrated processed fat by eating whole olive and other whole plant foods.
In nutrition research, everything is always "compared to what"? So for mice or humans who get very little phytonutrients from their diet and would otherwise eat more animal fat or processed mice chow, if they do better with some olive oil instead, that could mean EVOO is actually a net benefit to health, or it could mean it is less harmful in its net effects than was the alternative.
"h really, there are people in the Mediterranean who actually spend an entire lifetime substituting walnuts in place of EVOO?"
      1) There is no one version of THE Mediterranean diet--is is different things in different places and for different individuals.
      2) People eating most variants of the Mediterranean diet still have high rates of preventable chronic diseases. Thus, while it's better than the lousy American diet, there's still significant room for improvement.
      3) The Med diet was beat out in a recent study by a low fat vegan diet.
      pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33544066/
      4) The study in question was an experimental study in which people were assigned to different groups for a few years. Making a point of eating walnuts with your Med diet helped plaques, EVOO didn't, and the thickest plaques got thicker.

@@DoodlesMcpooh The problem with that plan is that a) some animal protein DOES get through to the colon, and b) the healthiest diets are diets where most or all calories come from whole plant foods.

@@karlwheatley1244 a) only when plant foods cause digestive issues. b) Complete nonsense and not supported by real science.
You're an indoctrinated fool. Maybe if you looked at things outside your bubble occasionally, you wouldn't be so insufferable and miserable.

As someone who researches and teaches nutrition (and researches why people believe nutrition myths)...
      a) The diets that cause less digestive issues are diets with lots of whole plant foods. Humans and our ancestors have been eating lots of whole plant foods for millions of year. b) There is a mountain of research that shows THAT diets dominated by whole plant foods are healthier and WHY that is true.
Major chronic diseases ramp up with increasing consumption of processed foods AND with increasing consumption of animal foods. Those are just the facts.
      Take care.
