- BMW’s hero GS range has expanded with the much awaited release of the distance-focussed Adventure. This time, the $33,722 rideaway giant can be optioned with an automatic gearbox. Spence and Snag select ‘DRIVE’ to thrash the bejeezus out of the biggest bush-Beemer ever offered, both on the road and in the scrub.
Adventure. We all know that is the magic word when it comes to motorcycle growth since the Y2K non-event. So, when the canny folk at BMW locked ‘Adventure’ in as the model name for the R 1150 GS variant back in 2001, well, they hit pay dirt. Big time.
Fast track to the modern day. The R 1300 GS had a long emergence. The bike world anticipated the bike. After a lengthy gestation period, it eventually peeked out from the production line. And the planet went wild.
Now, the brand’s hero offering, the R 1300 GS Adventure has bludgeoned its way through the bush to arrive to a global crowd wondering if the bigger beast was still relevant. Can a bike of this size capture the hardcore mudlarks?
Well, the Bavarian boffins certainly did not leave us wondering. Bold? You bloody betcha. They went all out on the looks. Indeed, it certainly made a splash in the design area -- some swear by it, many swear at all 269 kilograms of it. Statement. With a capital S.
So, the Adventure arrives as the most technically advanced BMW model ever. And, to top it all off, this one is an auto. Yep, the thing has no clutch lever and does all the gear changing work for you. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
Enough pre-amble. Shift yourself into Park, pour yourself a dark pilsener and prepare to hear the verdict our Dynamic Duo is about to boldly announce to the court of Aussie opinion. You will remember where you were…

2 legends & an ok motorcycle!
Motorcycles come & go, but real legends remain forever!⭐⭐
Rode an H-D Pan American the other day. Surprisingly great. Surprising great experience at an H-D dealership. "Here, take it for a ride. Try to have it back in a couple of hours".
If the BMW dealer will even let me breathe their rarified air, I will look at both the 2024 1250 and 2025 1300 tomorrow. Maybe even get a ride if they allow it.
Good luck mate! Hope you get a good look at both and get a test ride.
Love my Pan Am
2 meters tall guy writing. After 25k miles in my r1250gsa, do you still recommend the regular GS over the Adventure if I am not planning long trips?
