  • I've been wanting to make a video on this since I found out about it! The plan was for this to be about one scene but there was so much I wanted to talk about! This became a history of Disney Animation Ink and Paint department and how technology continued to change Disney over the decades. Let me know in the comments your favourite scene that blends 2D and 3D animation! Would you like to see more 2D animated films in the future?

Hey Guys! I hope you enjoyed this video! I loved talking about how the Ink and Paint department changed over the years and how 3D technology was used! I refer to original The Lion King being released in 1992. It was in production in 1992 but it released in 1994! Forgive me! I hope you enjoyed all the facts in this video!

Disney pionneered the 3d integration far before the modern area : During 101 dalmatians, they created models for Cruella's car and some backgrounds shot them, cut the pictures and put them on animation paper then, xerox them to have the exact same look for the cars than the other part of the movie. acting this way, Disney crew manage to animate a challenging design made of curved and straight lines without any line deformation which could easily occur with an hand drawn car. They did something similar years before with Pinnocchio, using a fimed model for the scene with Stromboli's caravan.

Actually, this film came out in June of 1994. Still, this is very impressive and I wished 2D animation would come back and continue like this.

The CAPS software was discontinued after the box office failure of Home on the Range in 2004.

this is great stuff 🤔but I'd argue that the paint department captures shadows and lighting extremely well and much better than the caps. caps seems to use more solid colors with less blends of shadows and tones. I love the tones used in DISNEY'S paint department because it creates the illusion of life through the animated characters.

I hate to tell you this, but you cited the original LION KING as being released in 1992, when it's common knowledge that it was released in '94 (and, on the subject, JURASSIC PARK came out in '93).

In Jurassic Park, there was an 2D animated segment with a character named Mr. DNA & it was done traditional cel animation.

Makes me wonder how Disney could afford making animated features and shorts in the 30s, 40s and 50s, but in the 60s it was suddenly too expensive without the Xerox process.
