Story time: so about a year ago i lend a book to this guy who really loves reading, and he's a nice guy so i knew he'd be careful with my book (i'm really anxious about letting people borrow my books fyi) and so he read it, and then one of his friends asked him if she could borrow it and he told her to ask me, so she did, and I couldn't just be like "no, he can borrow it but you can't" so I let her borrow it, and when I got it back I almost cried. Firstly, she had folded the corners of it and apparently she could only read one page at a time 'cos all pages were folded.... -.-'' Second; she had spilled some kind of soda or something in my book so all the pages were crumbled and shit like that!! Moral of the story: i won't ever let anyone borrow a book of mine again.
Same here. I have a friend who will borrow my books and forget she hasn't return them. She'll say she did, but then I'll find it in her room. One time her dog had torn the side a little, i was so upset. I finally put my foot down, and I haven't let anyone borrow my books unless they are anal about book reading too. That is probably one or two people. Even then, I have NEVER EVER lent out my signed/pre-released copies. A friend of mine will want to borrow one that i just got a few days ago, but I am so scared she'll ruin it. I want her to read it, but I don't want her to read mine, but if I say that she can't, she'll say that I said a few days ago if I did get it, she could (making me a hypocrite). I hope she pre-ordered it, so I don't have to worry about this anymore!! All these book feels are making me rant and rave! (and you are not my therapist!)
Alicia Medina haha, I totally understand you! I get carried away when I talk about books and stuff I really like as well :) But it's really sad that people can't take proper care of the stuff you lend them, 'cos personally I love letting people read the same books I've read and loved, but it's just so discouraging when people ruin the books you lend them :/...
JulianneIsNotThatBoring Exactly! We need to remind these fools that our books are also our PROPERTY. You don't borrow a car for a bit and crash it or something, do you? If you know you're a bad driver, don't borrow a car. Why would you do it if you know you're gonna crash it! Then you gotta pay for it! :( Books are life! So why not treat them with the utmost care?!
I borrowed a book from a friend one day, and it took me so long to read it (it wasn't a problem for her though), I carried it in my school bag, and one day I realized it was damaged, I felt so bad I had to rebuy her the book, even though she didn't care I really felt bad, because I don't mind if my books are damaged, and even if she didn't care either I couldn't just gave her the book back like that! And I had another friend, but that girl is really picky with books, I borrowed her Romeo and Juliet, but I felt terrible everytime I opened the book because I didn't want to damage it haha. I never borrowed another book from that friend because I was so nervous x) I think it's weird to borrow something from someone you don't even know, and then give the thing back like it's not a problem if it's completely spoiled! It's absurd really...
Oh gosh! If I ever borrowed a book from a friend, I don't think I'd ever lend it out to someone else. It boggle my mind that people think it's okay to do this. It's not even their property to make decisions about.
Thanks for doing the tag! I love all the "Let it Go" moments :) I would not be happy if I lent my book out to someone and they passed it around to other people. not cool! Aimee - I can't believe you get angry emails for making people cry. That's a sign of a good book!
Whenever I borrow books from someone I give myself a month deadline (like a library book). If I haven't read it in that month then I return the book. I only read borrowed books in my house so as not to damage them. I understand the fear of lending out your books and them being damaged so I'm really particular about how I treat borrowed books.
I wanted my friend to read The Night Circus so I could talk about it with her, so I let her borrow it, and each day I saw her afterwards she hadn't even started it. By two weeks I had to make an excuse to get it back because I missed the book so much and needed it back so I knew it was safe...that was the first and last time I lent a book out.
Samehere... The last time i lend a book ... I keep reminding my friend like twice a week forher to return it. But luckily she did read it and loved it. Lol 😂
same thing happened to me in my case a friend asked to give him harrypotter and half blood prince and it has been like 4 yrs till now i have not received it yet :D and yes they never come back to you.
This was a lot of fun to watch, nicely done! I fully cop to being a bit of a snob when it comes to lending out my books. After walking into a friend's office only to see them forcefully crease my copy of "V for Vendetta" so it would lie flat on a desk, there's really only two or three people I'll lend books to and they've all been vetted. Mostly I just tell people "I'm at a place in my life where my books are like my children!" They tend to stop asking after that. Or just leave me alone altogether.
i let a friend borrow the fault in our stars and i ended up getting it back almost a year later and she didn't even read it. thankfully it wasn't ruined.
omg this is so funny. basically I've got Girl Online by Zoe Sugg and my friend wanted to borrow it. I didn't want her to borrow it so i told her ''its nearly christmas, put it on your list". she did in the end. haha
Never4mind and it isn't a good book. The plot is basically a girl with a blog who starts to date a rock star and then her blog gets famous. Seriously, that sounds like a bad 1D fan fiction
I loved this video! I really want to read These Broken Stars, and the cover is so beautiful (both of them). I liked your answers, and I hate crying in public, but it's true, you know a book is a good book when it makes you feel the feels.
So I was actually about to buy her book a few minutes ago, but because I was trying to buy only books $3.50 and under (this website is AMAZING) I put it in my wishlist for later. She seems so sweet I might just have to go buy it now. It makes it special when you actually see the author and you see personality.
I lent the first 5 TMI books to my best friend at the beginning of summer. I still haven't gotten them back (but I'm going to let her keep them as a Christmas present because I found a place that sells them really cheap :P ).
Awww, I loved this video so much - I *almost* burst out in song with you... okay I totally did hehe :) And I hope you get your books back wherever they may now be!
This kind of video is so nice! You never really get to see authors as irl poeple who read and think the same books we do, and have similar reading rituals! I haven't seen may videos like this on youtube so it'd be incredible if you got the chance to do more
Thank goodness I'm not alone in completely forgetting major facts while waiting for the next book in a series to be released! Although when the author in question (in my case) makes us wait many years between books, I think it's inevitable you're going to forget something. This video also made me remember how lucky I am to work in a secondary school library: all of the new books you can eat FOR FREE!
Love this Book and your vloggg...I read it one day and I can't wait for the sequel. I flew through the pages like the book was nothing. I am going to a signing soon so I am so excited to meet both of the authors. :) this book is coming out in the US on my Grandmother's birthday lol must be a sign!!!
Hahahaha I loved your little Let it Go singing part in there! XD This is such a fun tag!!! And I used to power through books even when I didn't like them hahaha but now I read much more I definitely agree that life is too short to waste time on books that are putting a huge delay in your reading!!! XD
I lend books out all the time and never get them back! Does anyone else ever have people specifically ask to borrow a book and then a month later you ask for it back and they haven't even started reading it yet??
Cat I have the exact same problem with lending out books, I hate saying no to people but I also hate lending my books and its such an internal struggle, and I feel if I say yes to one person I have to say yes to other people. Its terrible.
Remember finishing The Summer Garden one morning (final of the Bronze Horseman trilogy) for the first time last yr in my dorm room and seeing my roommate slowly edge out of the room as if I were some poisonous snake! (he did not return until well into the evening). Not to mention all the odd glances I got wherever my eyes started welling up as soon as my thoughts turned towards the heartbreak in the story for the next month....
more than a year ago, i lent Looking for Alaska by John Green to my friend and kept asking it back every month or so. she ended up giving it to me as a present on my birthday
As soon as she said she read The Book Thief in public I was like OH NO! I finished reading The Book Thief just before getting ready to go out to dinner and was HYSTERICALLY crying - I've never cried that much over any book ever!
I lend my books only to my Mom (we live in the same house) or to my best friend, simply because everyone else abused their book borrowing privileges. My sister borrowed several of my books, one she really liked and then tried to pretend was hers, and the other book was one I'd actually bought new, which is pretty rare for me to do, I usually buy used books, but this one I bought brand shiny new along with the second one in the series and she poured coffee on it and it was a paperback. Yeah, it's not pretty anymore.
I shelf my TBR books in the order I intend to read them. That way, the next book is ready to go. Once it is read, if it is a keeper it is shelved in its permanent spot by genre and author.
If I lend a book to someone I'm very clear that they CANNOT crease the spine. I won't lend a book to one particular person because they always forget that they had it and can't find it when they're had it for months and haven't read it. I think I have a compulsion problem. I've read 22 books in the past 5 years and I keep buying more books. I have 25 books to read already and there's still other books I want to buy. It would be so much easier if I was a faster reader
I lent my copy of Paper Towns out this summer to a friend/neighbor, and I REALLLY want it back. Good thing it was only a paperback! I always lend out books to my one friend, because she is such a fast reader, and always gives them back in tip-top shape! (my bestfriend) hahaa.
I'm very much a mood reader too. I go through my books and chose whatever looks fun and interesting at that particular moment. When I dislike a book I put it aside and leave it for another moment of my life. I don't really keep a number of books to read. I hate to feel more pressure than I actually need to in my life. Not liking a book is not a crime. I usually tend to like stuff that nobody is talking. Like the old vampire chronicles by Anne Rice. Who reads them still these days? I find hardly anyone. I rarely cried over a book. I don't mind burrowing books but not all. Some that hold particular sentimental value won't leave my selves.
Yeah now I only lend books to people I currently live with, that way I can take them back. I once lent out a book that I loved to a good friend of mine. A year passed, but she swore she gave it back, but I know for a fact she hadn't because I was dying to read it again and waiting for it to be returned so I could read it again. I had to repurchase it. Currently my room mate is reading it, but I keep tabs on her progress, and the safety of my book -_- not going through that AGAIN!
My best friend has borrowed my books before and I knew she would not "hurt" it. I lent her divergent in September and she didn't give it back till last week. And she didn't even finish it and I was always asking like "SOO how are you liking divergent" and she's like "I haven't been reading it really. Why do you need it back?" Like excuse me but I collect books and would like my own book that I bought in my own possession thank you! 😭
lol I let someone borrow my copy of Divergent too and never got it back. I also let someone borrow my copy of The Maze Runner a couple years ago and just got it back. It's rough I feel this so much.
I lent a few books to my sister last year and she still hasn't gave them back, but I know she still has them. A couple of those books were signed copies, too. I trust my sister with my books because I know she won't ruin them. Though she did lose my copy of 'My Name is Memory' by Ann Brashaires when she let her boyfriend's mom read it. But I've forgiven her since because she returned a pile of books she borrowed after that. Just this last pile of books she has yet to return, but I won't lend her any other books until she returns those so I know I'll get them back because she likes borrowing from my bookshelves.
My copy of 'Where She Went' is currently in the hands of someone whom I trust with books, she doesn't even let me TOUCH hers. I'm worried, though. Worried
I let a good friend borrow the second book of a series, she had borrowed the first and nothing bad happened, the second books was a first edition, her boyfriend spilled grape soda all over it and she didn't tell me until I started asking where the book went, she didn't give it back, she didn't offer to replace the book, nothing, Almost no one is allowed to borrow my books now, and If they do I worry about the safety of the book daily
I lost the first book in the If I Were You serie. My parents are divorced so I thought maybe I left it at my other home. It wasn't... *insert horror tune* then I remembered I lend it to someone. Unfortunately I can't remember who borrowed it. My collection of the serie feels so empty. Allthough it isn't my favourite serie of all time...
I just lent a book to someone for the second time and she already had it but NEVER READ IT!!! The first time i got it back it was completely destroyed. I don't want to see how it will look for the second round....
I lent Insurgent AND Allegiant to one of my friends this summer and she just started Insurgent, so I won't have them back anytime soon. I'm dying to know if they're still in good state, but right now I'm almost certain they're at least a bit damaged.... Nooooo :(
Of Mice and Men is still the only book that managed to break me in public...twice...I now only ever read it in private...as for loaning books, it's not usually the book that I miss....it's more the space it leaves behind on the shelf that gets to me like an itch you just can't scratch!
I have 3 best friends, and I only let one out of the three borrow my books. She always returns them just the way I gave them to her, no problem. And even if it's been months, I know it's safe and I'll get it back one day, she won't lose it or damage it. One of the other three had my favorite book of all time, and spilled nail polish on its cover and then lost it while moving, never to be seen again. And the other one lost a copy of my other favorite book... Moral of the story: Even best friends can lose your books, don't lend out your favorite copies of ANYTHING.
True story currently happening: My friend and I have been fighting over if a certain book series is repetitive or not. She believes it isn't while I say it is (even though I have only read most of them, but I've read like 7 or 8, that is pretty far for someone who dislikes it). Since it is not all too popular we have no one else to ask about it. Sometimes we will somehow get back on the topic of it, and we will argue about it until we agree to save it for later since we have work to do. It's a vicious cycle that won't end.
Regarding lost books...my brand new hardcover copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows...brought it after standing in line for almost 6hrs...one of my friends borrowed it aas soon s I finished & then due to impending exams forgot I lend it to him & he moved citites 2 months later. Now I'm in a different country and I'll just have to "Let it Go...."
I lent my copy of Eclipse ( My favorite of the Stephanie Meyer books), to my cousin and I'm very obviously protective of my books. She saw no problem in returning it to me after it got water damaged. The whole last chapter was basically unreadable and the cover would not close the book properly anymore! I nearly cried right there and she went off like nothing happened. The whole rest of my family was like "Oh my god, are you ok?"
I leant my huger games trilogy to my best friend who spilt orange juice on mockingjay😭 then I leant them to my other best friend and he split water on them then let his mum read them omg I nearly cried, I didn't get them back for months 😭😭😭😭
The only time I ever had a real fight with my best friend was when she read Shades of Grey and I had a monologue about how much I despise this book, she was sooooo mad!
never ever ever will i ever lend a book to somebody. IT WOULD STRESS ME OUT TOO MUCH. :'D :'D HAHAH omg i keep buying books and my pile of books to read keeps growing and growing and growing. like it takes every ounce of my power to stop myself buying books whenever I'm shopping :'))
i lend a book to a girl that at the time was a super close friend, it's been almost 1 year and we fought pretty badly like 2 months ago, we don't talk or anything anymore and i'm pretty anxious because it took sooo long to find that book (will & will) in english here in brazil, i don't wanna lose it forever ;-;
I have the covers problem with Harry Potter because I have the Deathly Hallows adult cover but I have different covers for the rest (excluding my hardback of Prisoner of Askaban). I also don't have a copy of Order of the Phoenix. :( I am definitely buying the full adult cover collection. :)
If someone asks to borrow a book if I have it, I'll say I don't have it even if I do. Otherwise I don't let people borrow them. It tends to be more about destroying the book than taking ages to get it back to me.
I think I'm some unemotional weirdo because everyone seems to have cried at the book thief or say it's one of their favourite books but I neither cried OR think it's one of my favourites :O I thought it was kind of upsetting but...I think parts of it were so sudden that it took me a while to register what just happened. I have read other books that have made me cry like a baby...but the book thief just wasn't one of them :/
I didn't like Jane Eyre either. Had to read it for school and it just felt really boring to me. No idea though if that was BECAUSE I had to read it for school that I didn't like it, or if I just didn't like it because it wasn't a book for me.
Yes! I could not trudge through the writing style! I also read it for school, but the task was just to read a Classic, so I ended up switching my book at the last possible moment. I have met more of my kind!
Jeskyaa Lee Aileen Zhang I also read it for school. I didn't like the writing style but I disliked Jane as a character more. I mean, it's been a while, but I remember her being this totally empty character - there was nothing going on with her. She just got dragged around by life. So boring and so infuriating to read.
I hated it as well. I didn't like the writing style or Jane as a character and I especially hated my English teacher at the time, which didn't help. I did however love the webseries adaptation called the Adventures of Jane Eyre.

Amen! I am so pleased that I'm not the only one who is appalled by the idea of lending somebody else a book that you're already borrowing!
+Shannon Leigh Yeah! If someone let me borrow a book and someone asked for it after, I would tell them to ask the owner of the book.
+Shannon Leigh Yeah! If someone let me borrow a book and someone asked for it after, I would tell them to ask the owner of the book.
Loved the video Cat! The story about the old woman who saw her crying while reading The Book Thief...aww. :(
Thanks for doing the tag! I love all the "Let it Go" moments :)

i let a friend borrow the fault in our stars and i ended up getting it back almost a year later and she didn't even read it. thankfully it wasn't ruined.
I lent out divergent...within a week i bought a new copy, i had that much anxiety about it getting ruined. So i let them keep it....i have issues.
After a math test I decided to read and I ended up crying in math with an extremely judgmental teacher
What book did you read?
knifeforkandaspoon In The Afterlight
this was so much fun! I want to read her books now. she seems like someone who'd write great things!
omg this is so funny. basically I've got Girl Online by Zoe Sugg and my friend wanted to borrow it. I didn't want her to borrow it so i told her ''its nearly christmas, put it on your list". she did in the end. haha
Are you aware that Zoe didn't actually write the book herself and just lied about it?
who cares! it's still probably a good book. :) ^
She did write it omg
Hannah Winterton
Umm no she didn't. A ghostwriter called Siobhan Curham wrote it for her. Look her up.
Never4mind and it isn't a good book. The plot is basically a girl with a blog who starts to date a rock star and then her blog gets famous. Seriously, that sounds like a bad 1D fan fiction

The goodreads goal is soooo true!!! I literally have three more books to read, so I'm rushing a bit XD
Loved it. Omg I loved every moment, -great vid ladies!
I lent the first 5 TMI books to my best friend at the beginning of summer. I still haven't gotten them back (but I'm going to let her keep them as a Christmas present because I found a place that sells them really cheap :P ).

Oh man... I want that book room she was talking about. DREAMMMMM!

The whole point of BookTube is to find the other people who hated (and loved) the same books as you and mutually steam and vent.

your hair is gorgeous this colour!!!

My question is how long does it take you to dust all of your books and bookshelves? And how often do you do it? The get dusty relatively fast.
I'm not able to reread books even they I love them I just can't
Me too 😢 I wish I could re-read books, but I really can't
I thought I was the only one.
I'm actually able to reread books now, but I have to really love them. If I really enjoyed them, but they're not favorites I still can't!
I lend books out all the time and never get them back! Does anyone else ever have people specifically ask to borrow a book and then a month later you ask for it back and they haven't even started reading it yet??
THESE BROKEN STARS IS AMAZING!!! I NEED TO READ THE SECOND ONE NOW!!!
And oml, I lost my shit and bawled during English class when we finished reading _The Book Thief_.
Cat I have the exact same problem with lending out books, I hate saying no to people but I also hate lending my books and its such an internal struggle, and I feel if I say yes to one person I have to say yes to other people. Its terrible.

I really love your current hair :) Also: Could you do the book tower challenge 2.0?
Let it go, lol... that's my favourite song from frozen, keep up the good work.
As soon as she said she read The Book Thief in public I was like OH NO! I finished reading The Book Thief just before getting ready to go out to dinner and was HYSTERICALLY crying - I've never cried that much over any book ever!

@2.30 if the covers don't match you could make cute matching fabric covers and put them on all the books or buy the covers
Smart idea 😍
I shelf my TBR books in the order I intend to read them. That way, the next book is ready to go. Once it is read, if it is a keeper it is shelved in its permanent spot by genre and author.
Amy...hilarious!! I laughed so hard at this! XD
If I lend a book to someone I'm very clear that they CANNOT crease the spine. I won't lend a book to one particular person because they always forget that they had it and can't find it when they're had it for months and haven't read it.
I think I have a compulsion problem. I've read 22 books in the past 5
years and I keep buying more books.
I have 25 books to read already and there's still other books I want to
buy. It would be so much easier if I was a faster reader
Haha I only buy books like once a year... I feel lucky to have so many libraries near me!
AAAH THAT'S AMY!!! I just read "These Broken Stars" and I LOOOVED it :D :D :D
It's also driving me crazy that I still have this book I borrowed from a friend. I really wanna get back in touch with her to get it back to her
I miss your daily videos so much, Cat. Please come back soon xD xx
I loved the Book Thief I was bawling for an hour or more 😭😭😭😭😭
I lent my copy of Paper Towns out this summer to a friend/neighbor, and I REALLLY want it back.
Some that hold particular sentimental value won't leave my selves.
what a lovely person amy is!
Can u plz do the bookmark video. U mentioned it in ur bookshelf tour of 2015 ever since then I've been so excited lol :)
I don't plan on lending out books much anymore.I need to be more selective like you. I've had bad experiences with lending them out.
Couldn't stop laughing at those Let It Go moments :D
Borrowing borrowed books is not okay!
What a hoot.... love you and Amy. A no lending policy here unless you have something for collateral :) thank you!
I love These Broken Stars!
I love this video!!!!!!!!! So relatable😂
I would murder the person who I gave my copy of Divergent to. I love mine too much :)
feeling the feels determines my rating of books. it's my feelings...mainly towards the end.
My friend J. recommended Uhura's Song a Star Trek series book, I absolutely loved it, and was hooked on Star Trek books.
Worried
I let a good friend borrow the second book of a series, she had borrowed the first and nothing bad happened, the second books was a first edition, her boyfriend spilled grape soda all over it and she didn't tell me until I started asking where the book went, she didn't give it back, she didn't offer to replace the book, nothing, Almost no one is allowed to borrow my books now, and If they do I worry about the safety of the book daily
i love those books and i love this video ;)
I hate lending books because when I gave insurgent to my friend and I haven't got it back. It's been 2 years.
I feel your pain, my friend 💔😩😫
+Marifer Camacho *cries*
I feel so sorry for you.
When i have to finish a series and thenext book is not out yt i kinda reread everything hahahaha😂
I just realised you have a lot of books twice and I just wondered why that is? :)
Now I'm in a different country and I'll just have to "Let it Go...."
i have ADD and dyslexia but i read all the time, i have red harry potter 15 times and alots of more books
Well, this was fuunn!
Well, speak up for yourself. If you don't tell your cousin to buy a new copy you won't get one.
I leant my huger games trilogy to my best friend who spilt orange juice on mockingjay😭 then I leant them to my other best friend and he split water on them then let his mum read them omg I nearly cried, I didn't get them back for months 😭😭😭😭
To be fair they both offered to buy me new copies of the book but I said it was fine because this was before I was over protective of my books
Whenever someone wants to borrow a book, I just say "my parents don't let me, sorry" cause you know, I'm young and I still can say that lol.
The only time I ever had a real fight with my best friend was when she read Shades of Grey and I had a monologue about how much I despise this book, she was sooooo mad!
never ever ever will i ever lend a book to somebody. IT WOULD STRESS ME OUT TOO MUCH. :'D :'D HAHAH
omg i keep buying books and my pile of books to read keeps growing and growing and growing. like it takes every ounce of my power to stop myself buying books whenever I'm shopping :'))
i lend a book to a girl that at the time was a super close friend, it's been almost 1 year and we fought pretty badly like 2 months ago, we don't talk or anything anymore and i'm pretty anxious because it took sooo long to find that book (will & will) in english here in brazil, i don't wanna lose it forever ;-;
wait... we didn't fight because of the book
+Isabelle C já conseguiu? pq de vez em qnd vejo will & will na saraiva
You know, I feel like books should have a little sheet inserted in the front of them that says "previously in this series", like TV shows :P
Oh my gosh, this was posted on my birthday haha
Ah I love Jane Eyre.. so much that I even named my cat after her 👀
does amy have an own youtube channel? If not, she should. I would love to see a lot more by her
I sobbed my way through the last 100 pages of The Book Theif.
i lent a book to a friend and she lost it and I'm pretty sure it's the reason why we're not friends anymore...
You're not alone on Jane Eyre, my reference librarian doesn't like it either. No worries haha!
I still have my ex boyfriend's eragon series ... he's not getting them back
I also didn't like Jane Eyre (I absolutely hated it actually) SO YOU'RE NOT ALONE!!
Oh my gosh I hated Jane Eyre too! Ive found people who finally agree
I liked the story but couldn't handle the writing style... I had to read it for school. Lucky we got to pick the movie adaptions to compare.
I wouldn't say I LOVED Jane Eyre, but I did like it and enjoy it.
I honestly Subbed coz you're beautiful
I mistakenly lent out my copy of the hunger games trilogy to my friend around 2 years ago, and haven't gotten it back either. Never will I am sure.
what do you use to edit your video? o:
