Nice engineering. I get the ground effect and small aero footprint makes it very fast with less wind resistance. That crouch looks to be a bit uncomfortable for a long trek and lack of suspension would concern me but man what a nice ride! It looks like you got upwards of 40+ mph with great handling. Thanks for sharing this with us. Invention moves us all along at a pace that suits the soul...
Ignore the unimaginative commenters, this looks like a great riding experience. The environment for this shoot is terrible -- all that urban traffic. If you're located in Portland, take a day (preferably sunny) and go to a nearby mountain with a decent paved road to the top and shoot your video there. It would be cool to have two gravity bikes in the shoot, drafting each other and going head-to-head, etc. Rider skill is a big factor on this platform, I can tell. The motorcycle leathers/helmet and brakes indicate you take safety seriously.
We useta make these as kids. Downhill bike we called em. Get a regular bmx frame, flip frame over, installing forks and handlebars wrong way, weld a post where seat post would come out, seat where cranks were. Bomb the hills
What's with all the negative comments??? There are lots of fun things that you can't go uphill with. this thing is meant for speed. and if you don't appreciate that, then it's too bad, cause apparently 7Million other people do. Go ski!!!
@MrErock5353 It is a steel shell filled with solid lead. Weighs about 26lbs. The weight helps lower center of gravity and also carries your momentum through slower sections. It's also a play on what gravity folks call "bombing hills". :-) thanks for watching and commenting.
Man this would be the perfect platform for my turbojet bike. I have been running a Kingtech K320G4 on a GT mountain bike. Been 65 mph but I need less drag.
I remember seeing these in BMX Action in 1986. They revolutionized the cycling world, and bicycles without pedals basically became ubiquitous from then on... which is why no one needs to pedal anymore.
Portland has Rapid Transit called the max which is a Light Rail trains. You can take it from downtown Portland back up the hill in the direction of Beaverton Hillsboro which is West
I used to ride this hill as part of my morning work commute. I rode a Kona Kikapu Deluxe with Vredenstien Fortezza slicks, Hayes discs, and modified MTB/Road gearing . Used to scare the living daylights out of the TRiMet drivers and commuters when I'd whip past them.... :D Really way too much debris on the shoulder for safe riding. Used to pop alot of tires, LOL.
All the green eco friendliness of a bicycle with none of that pesky exercise! Well, except for when you want to go back up the hill and have to either put it on your shoulder, stoop down to roll it along or just ride it one foot at a time in awkward skateboard style! Buy one today!
Haeral Use the kinetic energy of going down your hill, to go back up the hill you work on or something 😉 would be a cool concept but if you were able to make it up the other hill, it would have to be a little smaller to compensate for friction and stuff. So you wouldn't have enough energy to go back up your hill.
It says it's a GRAVITY bike people. It's self explanatory. It's really no different than a skateboard going down a big hill. It's not meant to be comfortable or practical or safe or anything but FUN and certainly not for everyone.
Fun but also extremely dangerous. One thing I worry about would be the speed wobbles. Anybody who's written a BMX down a steep hill knows what I'm talking about. There's not a lot of traction in such a narrow Tire. But he clearly knows some of the risks as he's wearing the right gear.
at first I thought this was some lame shit.. until about 3mins in when I realized that XGAMES or REDBULL needs to take this, with more hill and more speed and make it a legit sport. There's no way this isn't more entertaining than any of the downhill ski events, and more likelihood of gnarly group crashes. This has lots of potential.
Yeah this could be a really fucking cool sport. They should develop a class of bike with certain characteristics and measurements and make a league sponsored by Redbull. It would be fun to watch these bikes hit really high speeds maybe even though in too steep turns. They could even be motorized potentially.
+Blink Dreach I think ISIS is behind this project and just wants more people to buy it before detonating all bombs/"stability increasing weights" at once. :P

Great idea. You have designed the first bike that guarantees you will smash your face into everything you crash into. It looks like you can ride that for a maximum of 10 minutes before your back is destroyed and your arms are on fire. Re-title this video "The Dork Knight rides the Pratcycle."
I was thinking the same thing what you need to do is just take a motorcycle and crop it into this similar position and holyshit would you have one hell of a motorcycle. I have a fabrication company but I don't know anything about making motorcycles. I always wanted to make a motorcycle in this style. I have all the skill to make it but not the knowledge
Funny how people just can't seem to let another person have fun with whatever they're doing. Wouldn't be my bike of choice, but I'm sure there's plenty of speed sensation when you're that low to the ground.
Right?? Like skateboarders hating on EVERY other action sports because it's not skateboarding... That's the point, people! Different sports, different goals and sensations. Life would be pretty boring if everyone did the same fucking thing...
@Christopher White people have a problem with skateboarders because they're so disrespectful and the attitude that goes with it. Also there's a lot of thuggery and arrogance about where they feel entitled to skate. If young skateboarders were way more cool and more respectful they wouldn't get so much hate against them. They bring it on themselves.
what, you mean like downhill snow skis, ski jump snow skis, bobsleds, luge, grass skis, snow boards, etc (and some may argue, Fords). It is a purpose designed vehicle made for high speed downhill fun, it is not meant for everyday commuting.
onth3hous3 This is clearly much faster than and much different from a standard bicycle. The low profile means low air resistance and the lack of gears and chains means low friction wheels. In other words, this thing a specifically designed to go downhill fast. If that doesn't sound like something you'd find fun, don't get one.
Some people are just too dumb/lazy to find out for themselves what something is made for. A 'Gravity' Bike is just that (the clue's in the name), they're for racing on downhill sections of road, just like Street-luge for example. No-one's trying to re-invent anything here onth3hous3, it's just another fun thing to do.
John Doc. As an engineering student, I am not "lazy/dumb" to find out anything. Thanks for the assumption though. Also, as an engineering student....I can clearly say that this is a pointless "sport" as you call it because I see it getting very popular (sarcasm if you didn't catch that). There are already bikes designed for speed....why make another?
I Think its great that you guys have invented a new way of cycling at high speeds down Steep roads but SIN Cycles you give yourself too much credit for such a simple invention.
It's simply made to downhill fast, and it's obviously faster then a road bike just by looking at the height of it. Plain and simple. Traditional bikes are made to commute, this is made to go fast with as little wind resistance as possible. Just like a trick skateboard deck and a longboard, they're made for different things. Idk why anyone would talk bad about these, and if they do they most likely just can't understand some things are made for different purposes & it's pointless to try and explain to them
It really would be cool if he were actually going fast and taking advantage of the design in the video. I can see the potential for the design but this video is pretty lame.
I don't know how many of these people who have commented are aware of DH mtbing. A sport focused on downhill too, and the bikes can't climb hills either.

yeah, a bicycle without pedals. did I miss anything?
***** When I´m riding downhill on a "normal" bicycle, I will not have to use the pedals to gain speed. The gravity will do that for me :-)
It's brake is your ass that's amazing that's what you're missing
Ivan Blazevic no it won't. On a normal bike you have more wind resistance
Henk Hatzmann ya but you can use a big gear so you go even faster pluss things like an areo bike and good wheels help so ya
Yes, this not just a bike without pedals, this one works on gravity ! As do all things in the known Universe !
The negative comments are from people, that understand the essence: this is different and a lot of fun. Grrrreat !

why does it have a tiny bomb inside it?

Reminds me of the bikes from 1817. No pedals.
