  • Part Six - Blackwood to Donnelly River Village: Leaving Blackwood, the team descends Cardiac Hill and then climbs through the heat to Gregory Brook, where Caroline refreshes in the crystal clear water and enjoys a night socialising with fellow hikers. Then it's onward to Donnelly River Village, passing the first of many Giant Karri trees and navigating around some local wildlife.

such a nice chapter, loved the nature and the kangaroo - and had a giggle at the size of your towel in the creek

Thanks Mette - and yes any bit of weight that can be avoided works wonders - including mini sized towels 😆

Hi Caroline and Steve, excellent camera work, editing and commentary. I'm really loving this series. One thing you might want to try, Caroline, on your next hike:
The way you're holding the poles @ 4:20, they wouldn't be any use to you if you were to slip. Next time, try inserting your hands through the loop and onto the pole handles from BELOW the loop strap, rather than from above (look for instructions on YT if it isn't clear) . That way you'd be able to put your whole body weight on the poles, which will save your knees on descents, and assist you on the ascents. In essence, it will turn you into a four wheel drive. Thanks again!

Thanks Vered! And thanks for the great tip re pole technique - there’s always something to learn, will try this out on the next steep hill! 🙌🏼

Your absolutely right Vered. I’ve been watching that from the first video. I use mine all the time. Almost never put them away. They make so much difference when you use the strap the way it was designed.

Met Riley and Mon in Denmark when I was doing that section. They were covering some distance (they did Denmark to Albany in two days!!). Didn't find out they got engaged at Blackwood until after we finished, not a bad spot to do it.

I have a few questions for you if thats OK Caroline. @greatwalksoftheworld
1- what app are you using on your phone
2- where did you get your stove & pot/cup thing from its cool and I really want one for when we do the bibbulman next year
3- when will the rest of the videos be uploaded? It always turns out everytime we find a really good series on this track the sectional videos aren't fully uploaded 😪

First couple of episodes had a fair bit more of personal feel to them, these ones are mostly just shots of Caroline walking. Excellent film quality though and good matching with the music

Thanks for the feedback. As we make more of these we'll certainly learn from the comments and focus more on the personal journey.

I know this video was posted a year ago but to anyone heading into the Donnelly area who saw the very chilled out Kangaroo around the 28 minute mark- Most Kangaroo and Emu within about 20km radius of Donnelly River Village are very tame and quite friendly like this from years of tourists feeding them around the village. Make the most of these beautiful animals up close like you wouldn't normally be able to; Just please don't feed them regular food items, there are grains you can purchase from the site office/general store that is safe & healthy for them to eat
