Its the tired and old story... A promise of a ceasefire and the end to this war. Would the world rather take their chances at the end of a conflict or risk this esculating into WW3? Judging by the comments here, it seems people would prefer WW3 than a chance to end the loss of countless Ukrainian and Russian lives. In 2014, the Ukraine-Russia war ended in a similar fashion with a similar ceasefire agreement. Back then, Russia took over Crimea. Now, in 2022, Russia attacked Ukraine again to take over more regions, specifically Luhansk and Donetsk. However, there are problems, even if Ukraine agrees to this ceasefire agreement. There are no guarantees that Russia will not attack Ukraine again. Additionally, this ceasefire will not mitigate the risk of World War III. If Russia is successful in taking territory in a war of attrition with a ceasefire, we could see similar conflicts arise in different parts of the world. I do believe Ukraine and Western countries want a ceasefire, but with conditions that ensure the security of Ukraine in the future. For example, Russia would have to allow Ukraine to become a part of NATO.

Ukraine had been sending their old people to fight on the front lines and they have been dying out. Now it seems their conscription of young men is not so successful. I can't understand why Ukraine doesn't take up Putin's offer.
It's too much though. Cities of Kherson and Zaporizhia are too big for Ukraine to just give them up, not to mention other cities like Kramatorsk or Slovyansk. Though this offer might be just the upper bar in negotiations. Zelenski rejected any peace deals that doesn't return all of Ukraine, including Crimea being returned to Ukraine, and Ukraine going back to its 2014 boundaries. President Zelesky also scarthed at the nato members who said Ukraine should give up Crimea surrender so they can get future consideration to join Nato and the Eu. Putin is trying to spin the narrative to the Russian people.

Not a great Idea considering Russia's past in breaking ceasefires and agreements. He's basically asking for another 15% on top of the 17% he barely holds. The bid for Ukraine not to join NATO on top of the land grab tells me he has not abandoned his plans for Ukriane but things are not going as planned with the "3-day SMO". After building up his army over the next 10-years he would surely invade again. That is his nature, he wants to rebuild the USSR and place himself on top like some kind of Tsar.

Obviously, no matter what there is a loss on Russia's part even if this deal comes to fruition. The invasion (”special military operation”) was a poor decision ofc, and one can make jokes about how it was supposed to last 3 days not 3 years, but we must remember that this is a man who has isolated himself to the point that everyone he talks to is a yes man, the invasion was doomed from the start. The recent firings of military officials and most importantly minister shoigu spells a turning point in Putin's perception of the war and the world. The war has clearly shaken him and his grip and this is his only way to save face. Even so, I dont think this proposed deal is that ridiculous. The donbass and Donetsk have strong ethnic Russian ties and it is understandable that those territories are granted legal session to Russia. It is also important to remember that for decades now, russia and putin have expressed their worries about a Nato aligned Ukraine and those concerns have been brushed off by the US and the west, this is now excuse to invade a country, but NATO and the west should have understood the kind of bear they were poking and prodding and what would inevitably happen. Another point is that if Russia were to move troops to say Cuba (which is happening atm) the US would be livid, so is it that unreasonable for Russia to have the same security concerns? This deal is optimal, and it will promote a reconstruction of cooperation between russia and Ukraine, and russia and the west. This entire conflict should be a lesson to the west to take Russian concerns seriously rather than sweep them under the rug and wait for it to boil over in this kind of brutal and unfortunate travesty and loss of human life. Russia certainly has much blame, but the west and Ukraine (governments) are no saints
Firstly, False equivalency. The U.S never owned Cuba, to then loose it, which would have Cuba constantly paranoid of a U.S invasion to reclaim it for national glory. Secondly this deal offer’s literally nothing to Ukraine. They have to give up a huge amount of territory, and then have Russia dictate that they cannot join NATO. Which opens them up to future attacks and further loss of territory. Next time Putin might just decide to push for the whole country.
I'm not blaming Russia, I'm entertaining that an invasion was not the best idea, more so because It was started based on clearly flawed Intel. I fully understand that Russia is fighting for its historical interests, and I understand that NATO and the US have disregarded Russia's concerns since the collapse of the Soviet Union. It is unfortunate that this lack of communication (mainly on Nato and the US's part) has lead to this conflict taking place. Ive also always had an issue with the US and NATO's double standards when it comes to foreign affairs, Russia has received so many sanctions and most recently had its frozen assets given to Ukraine, meanwhile the US is allowed to invade whomever we like with no repercussions. I am not blaming Russia, but I think that Russia has been pushed to do things because of the West.

A key requirement was neutrality to avoid serous geopolitical consequences. In fact, in 2022 they nearly agreed to it in return for Russian withdrawal, but were talked out of it by the West in pursuit of their own goals which have little to do with Ukraine’s well-being. Take neutrality away and we get what we get.

Ukraine had been sending their old people to fight on the front lines and they have been dying out. Now it seems their conscription of young men is not so successful. I can't understand why Ukraine doesn't take up Putin's offer.
It's too much though. Cities of Kherson and Zaporizhia are too big for Ukraine to just give them up, not to mention other cities like Kramatorsk or Slovyansk. Though this offer might be just the upper bar in negotiations. Russia might agree for example to let Ukraine keep the territories it currently has and I think that would be a good peace deal for Ukraine

Not a great Idea considering Russia's past in breaking ceasefires and agreements. He's basically asking for another 15% on top of the 17% he barely holds. The bid for Ukraine not to join NATO on top of the land grab tells me he has not abandoned his plans for Ukriane but things are not going as planned with the "3-day SMO". After building up his army over the next 10-years he would surely invade again. That is his nature, he wants to rebuild the USSR and place himself on top like some kind of Tsar.

Obviously, no matter what there is a loss on Russia's part even if this deal comes to fruition. The invasion (”special military operation”) was a poor decision ofc, and one can make jokes about how it was supposed to last 3 days not 3 years, but we must remember that this is a man who has isolated himself to the point that everyone he talks to is a yes man, the invasion was doomed from the start. The recent firings of military officials and most importantly minister shoigu spells a turning point in Putin's perception of the war and the world. The war has clearly shaken him and his grip and this is his only way to save face.
Even so, I dont think this proposed deal is that ridiculous. The donbass and Donetsk have strong ethnic Russian ties and it is understandable that those territories are granted legal session to Russia. It is also important to remember that for decades now, russia and putin have expressed their worries about a Nato aligned Ukraine and those concerns have been brushed off by the US and the west, this is now excuse to invade a country, but NATO and the west should have understood the kind of bear they were poking and prodding and what would inevitably happen. Another point is that if Russia were to move troops to say Cuba (which is happening atm) the US would be livid, so is it that unreasonable for Russia to have the same security concerns?
This deal is optimal, and it will promote a reconstruction of cooperation between russia and Ukraine, and russia and the west. This entire conflict should be a lesson to the west to take Russian concerns seriously rather than sweep them under the rug and wait for it to boil over in this kind of brutal and unfortunate travesty and loss of human life. Russia certainly has much blame, but the west and Ukraine (governments) are no saints
Firstly, False equivalency. The U.S never owned Cuba, to then loose it, which would have Cuba constantly paranoid of a U.S invasion to reclaim it for national glory. Secondly this deal offer’s literally nothing to Ukraine. They have to give up a huge amount of territory, and then have Russia dictate that they cannot join NATO. Which opens them up to future attacks and further loss of territory. Next time Putin might just decide to push for the whole country.
I'm not blaming Russia, I'm entertaining that an invasion was not the best idea, more so because It was started based on clearly flawed Intel. I fully understand that Russia is fighting for its historical interests, and I understand that NATO and the US have disregarded Russia's concerns since the collapse of the Soviet Union. It is unfortunate that this lack of communication (mainly on Nato and the US's part) has lead to this conflict taking place. Ive also always had an issue with the US and NATO's double standards when it comes to foreign affairs, Russia has received so many sanctions and most recently had its frozen assets given to Ukraine, meanwhile the US is allowed to invade whomever we like with no repercussions. I am not blaming Russia, but I think that Russia has been pushed to do things because of the West.

@@KolyaUrtz You are completely abstracting yourself from the context. Ukraine was let out of USSR during an orderly disbandment process. A key requirement was neutrality to avoid serous geopolitical consequences. In fact, in 2022 they nearly agreed to it in return for Russian withdrawal, but were talked out of it by the West in pursuit of their own goals which have little to do with Ukraine’s well-being.
Take neutrality away and we get what we get.

Russia is not the invaded party in this conflict. For explicit reminder: Russia broke both minsk ceasfire agreements and broke Budapest memorandum as far as in 2013.
@@Mish844 we know who broke the Minsk agreements (or rather used them right from the beginning as a way to gain more time, rather than abide by them) - Angela Merkel publicly declared this in reference to Ukraine. Ukraine's declaration of independence explicitly conditions Ukraine's being independent on neutrality. Take that away - and Ukraine gets all sorts of problems.

This man made the Russian economy better after the collapse of the Soviet Union and he played the West for 20 years, I don't think Russian people are going to get rid of a smart man just to make the NATO and U.S imperialism expand more and more, not to mention that NATO was trying to build an airbase in Kyiv (Ukraine).
And the reason Russia invaded Ukraine is because to stop NATO from expanding forwards to the east, and what about the Ukrainians bombing innocent people with that want to be independent and be with Russia using shells.
