This is an iconic song! In my opinion, it is one of the best songs ever written. It encapsulates and conveys a myriad of emotions: it is both soothing and sad, somber yet sweet, mournful yet uplifting. It is a window into the soul of such a beautiful human. And yes, this man did it justice! RIP Andy😢
God, I miss Shawn. First heard Brad in 1993. I had the pleasure of meeting him a couple of times when he played solo gigs. Approachable, humble, unassuming. One of the nice guys with absolute buckets of talent. One of the most soulful voices I’ve ever heard. He remains my favourite singer-songwriter of all-time x
seriously epic and left me with massive goosebumps to hear a rendition of this especially by the late great Shawn Smith only a short while before his passing. by the way EmeraldBay you're surprisingly wrong i mean who would have guessed from your ignoramus juvenile mindset ;)
What a terrible loss. Shawn's music brought so much light into the world and I'll never understand why he toiled in relative obscurity, while far lesser talents earn billions. His art has enriched my life over decades and words can't convey my gratitude
We all tried to help him but Pearl Jam had the power and money. They could have gotten him on soundtracks- made other introductions. He and I talked about it. So no one say " you dont know that " blah blah I' ll just delete your comment and block you.
It is so stupid that I cry everytime I listen to this song? it's my favorite one, I really fell the pain in Andy's voice , Shawn made an excellent version btw
You its funny i shld read your comment today. Ive been listening to MLB since 90s, turned everyone i know onto them. Know every word, note of this song inside out, felt every emotion put into and pouring out of this song but never shed a tear til today. I played ir this a.m. and cried my eyes out. Im still wiping away tears 3 hrs later. This version is 4 th time ive played it today. I dont know why its getting to me so much. Listened to Temple of the Dog earlier too. Something in my soul or needed by my soul at the moment i guess
Grew up with Shawn and so proud of this. He introduced me to this song before Andrew died in a dirty town called Bakersfield as he was visiting after walking out of here for good. The song has always been one of my favorites ever. to see him do this so well makes me cry. God Bless you Shawn Smith your awesome brother.
Shawn truly is one of the mostly unsung greats. Some of the songs he's written are close to perfection, Butterfly for example. The perfect choice for this cover. Say hi for me Todd, been a long time since we last spoke about Shawn scoring a short film we were writing.
Ohhh my god Xana I was crying and had tears in my eyes this whole performance. I have never heard of Shawn Smith or the Sweetwater band and I feel so cheated now. This is truly, breathtakingly, magical. I love this song, Shawn sings it beautifully. Andy would love the symphony playing behind Shawn. Oh god I am left without words. All my love to you Xana. 💜💜💜💜 We love and miss you Andy 💜🦄♑️ Rest in Love Andy and Shawn
I'm amazed you never saw this. I'll be writing about Shawn soon. I've shared other videos of his. I will do so again. By the way your comment was the 333 rd comment. On Andy's birthday I started seeing 333 all over and all week. Gas, milk, airport, candy, then I go to Bartells and aisle 3 lights up That was Andy's number. I filmed this- be sure to subscribe to this channel it's free. Also if you find the other recording of this you can hear him say " this is for Xana "
A very fitting tribute and performance. Sad to think its been 2 years since Shawn's passing and far more than that since Andy left us. Both of their legacy's leave us with many memory's and amazing bodies of work. A day doesn't go by that I don't spin Shine, Apple or some variant of Wood music be it a slew of bootleg demos or some Malfunkshun. I must say the "Chloe is just like me, only beautiful" is a stunning line that resonates very deep every time I hear it, Andrew was an amazing lyricist. And as we ruminate on all things PNW and the "good ole days" boy howdy was Sweetwater an underrated and criminally overlooked band. I know I saw them as many times as I could and even accepted :) the Park Boys name change. Xana I do wish I knew half of your stories as I am sure I cold listen to them all day long X 1k.
When I moved to Seattle in 1999 Shawn was the first musician I saw live and I was hooked on his music from then on. I echo the comments on how he was a musical genius. I still love to spend my Sunday mornings listening to his music. R.I.P. Shawn
The Seattle scene of the late 80’s early 90’s had some of the best vocalist of their time sadly many of them are gone far too early. Each offered a uniqueness. RIP
How the world does not know about Shawn Smith is beyond me! I've still got my Pigeonhed singles on 12" Vinyl. Although I'm sort of grateful that they don't know...
Grunge was about heaviness and melancholy, and the secret ingredient was funk. Shawn Smith was funkier than anybody else, and wrote incredibly melancholic songs, be them heavy or naive pop songs. The man was simply a genius and the epitome of the Seattle scene. Satchel, Pigeonhed... incredible records he made
I love this version. So much heart and feeling put into it. I cannot help but to cry. I saw Mother Love Bone in Philadelphia in 1989 and ever since then I love their music. Landrew knew how to work the crowd and he was an awesome person inside out. It broke my heart when I learned Landrew left us. It’s been 30 years but seems like yesterday. There are times when you lose someone time means nothing. I saw a video the other day from The Moore and Landrew was handing out grapes 🍇 to the crowd. Who does that? lol. Landrew did that and that’s why he is a true legend. Xana if I ever meet you I need to give you a hug because it’s 30 years overdue!
He's fan fucking tastic. This shit is emotional to me. always always will be. I didnt know shawn smith. But i have worshiped Andrew Wood and MLB. Always will!!
fullmetalfred---you really should check out some of his other work as singer of "Brad" and "Satchel" as well as his amazing solo work. Shawn is absolutely fantastic and so freaking talented.
Chris Cornell and Andy's brothers should be the only people to cover Andy's works. I hate that Pearl Jam started including Crown of Thorns into their set because Eddie never knew Andy and Eddie inherited fame and glory without any of the hard work and almost ZERO charisma while Andrew Wood was the definition of charisma.
I have listened to MLB since I was a teenager. This is the best performance 2nd to Andy. Thank you "Stargazer". I don't know how you can listen with a dry eye!
This may be the most beautiful song ever written Any time I get the chance to show someone MotherLoveBone I play this song and stardog champion But this song...this song is on another level Shawn did such a great job I felt it just like when I heard it for the first time Xana this is such a great upload Andy got to leave such a beautiful song to you that will rock on well past all of us RIP Andy RIP Shawn

Holy crow! I haven't heard Shawn sing any Mother Love Bone. In this world of music, sometimes you don't uncover everything. Brad was a favorite of mine on account of Shawns voice. ❤
This brings tears to my eyes.... My God! Such beauty... Shawn brought Andy alive in spirit. I can't get over how beautiful this sounds.... Love to all!
This is amazing... Thank you Xana for adding this. Idk who in the world these 3 thumbs down people are... we will always remember you Andy and your work that you left behind for us.

Just different moodswings if that makes since. And his voice, on THIS song is one of those powerful magical things for me. I could listen to him song this over and over for hours a d have goosebumps the whole time. I'm sure there is a interesting story behind him out in the universe somewhere, someone can share........I'm going to Google now, but I LOVE reading comments about people whom knew him and had life experiences with him. RIP another magical voice!!!!
Justmiss jamey pls listen to Satchel "family" album. It's a masterpiece. It's what introduced me to him 25yrs ago. Also if you love his voice like I do pls give early Stevie Wonder a chance. Same pitch and emotion comes out
I would go back to Seattle if it were. like it was. The energy is not the same anymore but, briefly in youth it was and looking back un- imaginable thank you SS SG AW SG for those sounds. Rest easy big man
Someone commented who is gutarist- this was with SWEETWATER. A Seattle band.
Hi Xana!🙃
By a long shot, this was the best cover ever of this song. Rip Shawn. ❤

yep , and by a fantastic singer / song composer
Totally, it really does it justice. He was a terrific vocalist.

This officially ny all-time favorite song!! Baker Steet held that position since it came out in the 70s.
@Danandrea919 you have exceptional taste.

One of the most underappreciated songs performed by one of the most underappreciated singers.
No matter how many times I watch this I get chills at that 1st line. So amazing.

His voice truly had the power, to change and save lives. His music impacted my life in a big way. One of the greatest. A true artist.
