I've been doing this for the last couple of days and it's such a perfect way to finish the day and have quality me time after the babies are asleep 🐱 today I'm proud of myself for doing this little effort of taking care of my body and mind even on those days were pain is present 🙌
Exercise really positively impacts my mental health. I'm starting to get into the habit ofmoving a bit every day and your videos are really helping. It's amazing how many happy chemicals my brain releases even with 10-15 minutes of exercise. And it goes without saying it's good for my physical health too. Thank you!
Thankyou for sharing I love doing your classes. I was hoping you could explain the typewriter exercise for me, I couldn't work out what you were actually doing.
Hi Carol - thank you for your message. So happy to hear you’re enjoying our Pilates workouts! First, know that you’re not alone - the typewriter exercise can be a tricky one. 🙂 It takes a lot of concentration (and practice!) to isolate the pelvis. For the typewriter, you’ll want to work on isolating your pelvis and making very slight movements, shifting only the pelvis from right to left. Something that helps isolate the pelvis is to engage the upper abdominals, or the muscles just below the ribcage. During the exercise, the hips do not drop to either side (think of your hip bones as car headlights, always facing forward). When you’re lowering to the ground, that movement comes from articulating the spine down from the bridge position/top of the pelvic curl. Again, this exercise definitely takes practice. Take it slow, keep at it, and know that you’ll only continue to make progress as you continue with Pilates. Keep up the great work - we’re cheering you on!
Beautiful one, thank you, BL pilates ard just a blessing to me. I have just discovered Balanced Life this dpring and am doing a shuffle of some of my favourits. What I enjoy especially is the way Robin speak, the mindfullness bits(about breathing and letting the bad things go, and so on...), the speed of exercise. I have lower back issues and Asymetric scoleosis, and 98% of BL works for me. As I wanna work and flex out, without cardio, but not hurting my back. Many, many thanks Robin 💫🙏

Thanks this was amazing!! Just getting slowly into my fitness and mental health again and this was delightful to do just before my nighttime meditation ❤️🫶🏽
Can I ask a question, I find when I roll up in the bridge it’s quite painful just under the back shoulder blade right down the right side and I can’t go up very high?. Any reason why and how I can get relief from this? It very achy when not even doing anything. 😕
Hi Jo! Thank you for your question. A little soreness / tightness is probably okay, but we definitely don't want you to be experiencing pain. Try pressing firmly down into your mat with your arms and only rolling up as high as what's comfortable for you. And if the pain does not subside, you may want to check with your medical provider to make sure you're cleared to do Pilates, including any precautions you might want to take.
Hi there! The Roll Up is a challenging exercise, so don't feel discouraged. 🙂 You might want to try putting a small folded towel underneath your lower back and holding light 1-2 hand weights (cans or soup or water bottles can also work). As you roll up, be sure to tuck your chin towards your chest, squeeze your legs/thighs together, and use your breath to exhale as you roll up. And if you can't get all the way up, simply go as high as you can for now. As you continue with Pilates, you will only continue to build strength and make progress. Keep up the great work!
@@wearelindywell I was able to do roll up. Thank you. The towel really helped. The exercise right after where we press up and then do leg extensions is now what I am having issues.
Way to go! For the exercise you're talking about, it's okay if you can't lift your hips as high - simply lift as high as you can for now. You can also keep both feet on the floor and hold or pulse up and down 🙂
Hi! While it's hard to say for certain, pain in the hip flexors / thighs is often due to overuse of the hip flexor muscles and underuse of the deep core muscles. Here's a blog post where you can learn more about it: thebalancedlifeonline.com/qa-wednesday-why-do-my-hip-flexors-hurt-when-i-do-pilates/. 🙂
This was fabulous. Thank you! I was feeling so guilty for not making the time today to even do a few minutes of exercise. Guilt gone-thanks to you.
