I think the latest downloadable version fixes this example, but either way I know what the problem is. In one update the objects were given configurable market types, so if you change the property in question to a valid marker type (like 's' for square, 'o' for circle, '^' for triangle, etc.) it will fix the error message.

You can use ROS which has packages with the same algorithms. ROS is used for real world implementations.
