I can't even describe it with words how absolutely terrible and unfortunate this incident is. It's unbelievable to me we don't learn a thing or two after 3 years. It's become hopeless at this point and I'm not even surprised that at some point every Indonesian football match results in someone's death and people just don't care anymore.

Although the use of tear gas by the police is questionable, you can argue that the supporters take the blame as well for storming to the field and allegedly injuring security personnel provoking them to use tear gas to the crowds. This incident is the result of just about every problem about Indonesian football match that goes unsolved, from hooliganism to just outright terrible management of football matches by the officials.

I'm from Costa Rica, here back in the 90's football fans started to get very violent, they where more like gangs, but then at some point our federation decided to punish not only the fans, but the whole football team for their fan's doings, so the team owners got worried because that translated to them losing money, and finally started to take some responsible actions, they started meetings with their fans leaders and made them understand they where all in the same ship, and violence will sink them all, so they convinced fans to avoid violence and started to take control of them by making official fan credentials that where only given to well behaved fans, this credential will also give them benefits like merch and tickets discounts. Over time violence drop a lot, and now it's very safe to attend any football game here.
What a nice lesson to learned actually. I wish Indonesian's football association has a great solution like this as well. But yeah, maybe we can't expect more because this is the result of broken system. Our uneducated people, poor economic condition, and our sucks federation that fulfilled with mafia.
