Looking at the comments, I can see that some Mara brethens are quite unhappy about the name of the dance.
Well, this is definitely SARLAMKAI and not SOLAKIA, although they are very similar, and they both are the kind of dances that used to be performed to celebrate victory.
As we all know, due to mild regional differences, even the same kind of dance can be performed with choreography quite differently from each other and given different names due to dialects. So, no hard feelings here, my Mara brothers and sisters.
You know, even the choreography of Cheraw is different from region to region in Mizoram. But now the Art and Culture Department desgned a standard choreography in order to avoid confusions and that choreography is what you usually see on youtube nowadays. And that doesn't make the regional choreographies less Cheraw.
And just like that, having Sarlamkai and Solakia differently doesn't make Solakia less Solakia or Sarlamkai less Sarlamkai. As you can see, in Sarlamkai, guys hold Knife, while in Solakia, guys hold Spear instead. And the body movements are also slightly different from each other. Therefore, they both are authentic and should be respected and apreciated equally.
